  1. Thanks BC I'll give that a try. I haven't calibrated in a while. That could be it.
  2. Has anyone tried to add a PQ to CoPilot on a Windows 8 Phone? I would really like to hear you experience of how you did it and how it worked. Thanks.
  3. Has anyone experienced their 60 CSx tracking backwards? No matter what setting I put mine on when I hold it with the antenna on top (where it should be) then as I walk the map shows me getting further away from the cache. When I turn it upside down and continue to walk the same direction it shows me getting closer to the cache. To make this even more confusing, with the antenna up, right and left seems to be correct. When I turn it upside down, the tracking works like I have it set to track up (which is what I want) but the left and right are reversed. I have run all of the updates, checked every setting possible against friends who also use a 60 CSx and just can't figure this one out.
  4. Usually if I get that error I restart my phone. Try that and see if it helps.
  5. To change to miles: Open the app, when you get to the main screen click the menu button on your phone (on mine it is at the bottom of the screen on the left). Click settings and the third choice down is labeled "Units". Choose "Miles/Ft" and you've got it. To see caches in an area on the map, choose Find Nearby Caches from the main screen, when your list of caches show up click the menu button again and choose View on Map. That will give you all caches near you on a map. Have a blessed and wonderful day.
  6. I am not sure what the problems with using GSAK is. I loaded a pocket query last night to my 60CSx and it took less than 5 minutes from the start to finish. That included going to Geocaching.com and telling it to send the Pocket Query. I agree with team tisri, the cost of this program is amazing when you consider what it does and what it must have taken to write it. Not to mention maintaining it. As to the original question ... The 60 CSx is not paperless but is a fantastic unit for finding caches. If you spend the money on GSAK, take a few minutes to orient yourself to it, then install the PQ, you can be caching with the best of them in no time. I have three other Garmin GPSrs but the CSx is my caching machine. I also use the Geocaching App on my smartphone for all other information needed to make my trip paperless. There are a lot of maps available. The Topo maps will give you a lot of back roads and trails and you can also find actual backpacking maps showing hiking trails in many areas. As to what the 60CSx will do - I have had mine for quite a while and I don't know if I will every figure out all that it will do. But it does almost everything I want or need a caching machine to do.
  7. Does anyone have any idea why the Geocaching App for Android will only show recent logs from around August 2011 back? It seems to only have started this recently. If I look at my own caches so I know when they were last logged they don't show caches that were found in December. If I click on the menu button and tell it to update it updates to what I think is the most recent log. This is a new pocket query download so should be fully up to date, but is only after clicking update on the menu, then how do I know I can trust it if I am out in the field?
  8. My wife and I are going on our first ever cruise in a couple of months. I have created a pocket query for the Bahamas but not knowing anything about the Bahamas or cruises I have some reluctance to getting to far away from the ship. If there are any local cachers in the Bahamas that would be willing to give suggestions I would greatly appreciate it. What would be really nice, particularly for those new to cruises would be a geocaching excursion. Take me to the general area and let me find the cache. I have cached many times with groups so this would be the same thing. No worry about how to get there, how to get back, or the danger of caching in a totally different environment and country.
  9. Leatherman needle nose in my back pocket always. Gerber in it's original pouch on my geo-belt. Have no idea of any particular names for either of them. I have had them a long time and use them frequently for all kinds of things. The Gerber has a regular type nose.
  10. niraD, thanks for the confirmation on the account issue. Now, can you tell me how to associate it with the other account? Thanks.
  11. NicoleLackey, thanks for your reply. I can log on to my Google account on my computer and see the app listed as one purchased. If I go to Settings>Accounts and Sync on my phone I am also synced with this account. But when I go to Android Market>My Apps it doesn't show up on this list. If I pull up the app in the market as suggested by you, LukeTrocity, and S.O.A. it gives me the price of the app and if I click on it then it still wants to charge me the cost of the app. I think my problem, at least in part, is that I have two different g-mail accounts and the account that the apps are attached to is not the one that is being used when I log-into the market. I can't see anyway to switch accounts.
  12. OK. I went to the Android Market and clicked on MY Apps. The only apps listed there are the ones I have downloaded since getting the replacement phone. What am I missing? I don't want to be a nuisance but I just can't see any way to regain an app that has been lost.
  13. Luketrocity, when I try to download it from the market again the only option is to pay for it. How can I do this without having to pay? S.O.A., I don't understand your point. I realize I am connected through g-mail/Google but how does this affect me being able to get my app back without having to pay for it? Thanks for the replies.
  14. My phone screen died and I had to change to a replacement. Is there a way to re-install the app without having to pay for it again? Thanks
  15. My app was working fine this morning on my Samsung Captivate. Then all I get is "Failed to connect" and have to force close. What's up with this? I am leaving to hit the trails in the Cahutta Wilderness tomorrow and was counting on finding a few caches while there.
  16. When I am searching for a cache, most of the time, if not all of the time, instead of getting closer to the cache, the cache moves away from me. If I turn the GPS upside down (antenna pointing down instead of up) I move nearer the cache but then the left/right seems to be reversed. Is there some setting that needs to be changed. I have it set to tracking up all the time. Any ideas will be tried and greatly appreciated. By turning the GPS upside down you can get close to the cache, but then it is almost impossible to pinpoint it. Thanks.
  17. Recently when we enter a search for our area instead of listing caches near us it lists caches that are about fifteen to twenty miles away. The strangest thing though is that it shows them to be only 300feet away or something similar. Any idea We search by using our zip code but it is finding caches near another zip code.
  18. I am the Associate Pastor of a small Baptist Church in Georgia, and was a youth minister for 28 years. We have a cache hidden next to our church that has received very good reviews. it is called, The Greatest Treasure Ever Found. If you are ever in the Calhoun / Adairsville, GA area. You should try it.
  19. I am needing to know how to read my name that's in the "owner" field in a GPX file.
  20. I have been using a GPS60Csx for a while and really like it. It doesn't talk to you. It beeps to let you know a change is coming up. This does fine as long as you are not in heavy traffic or in a situation where you can't look at the unit. It does show on the screen the name of the next street and the direction of turn. You can not share maps and so forth. The maps are dedicated to the unit they are registered to. It is very good for out door sports and is great for Geocaching. The so called Geocaching feature of the unit is nothing to brag about however. It actually does nothing except ask you what kind of icon you want to use. Don't let this discourage you from using it to cache with. There are units available though that have true caching features available. I currently use my smart phone running Cachemate to be able to review the cache information. I have seen GPSr units that have this feature built in.
  21. I concure. I use the Q9 and Cachemate. There are a few glitches with Cachemate (or it could just be me) but over all it is great. I don't use the GPS feature of the phone, I refuse to pay an additional fee for it, so I use a stand alone GPSr to find the cache and the phone to make it paperless. Cachemate in conjuction with GSAK will give you the past few logs, the ability to decode the hint, the terrain and difficult, and a few other pieces of good information. It doesn't give you the photo's. I have been using this set-up for about 6 months and have been pleased.
  22. I use a Motorola Q9 Global with AT&T and Windows Mobile 5. However, I don't use the GPS option. I refuse to pay the extra fee. I use Cachemate on it for paperless caching and my Garmin 60CSx, or Quest 2 to find the cache. I also use GSAK. So far I have been mostly frustrated with WM5. It is not easy to get around in, I have to manually stop all applications, and it is sometimes just plain aggrivating.
  23. I have had a Garmin Quest for about 3 years and have really enjoyed it. Recently I purchased a Quest 2. I like the Quest 2's ability to hold the entire US maps. I took my first road trip with it this past weekend and had a problem with the navigation. The problem is that where as the original Quest would give you a countdown (turn left in 1.7 miles, turn left in 1 mile, etc. until you get down to 400 feet and less) before turning, the Quest 2 sometimes will give you a warning at over 1 mile, and then doesn't give anymore instructions until you are on the turn. Sometimes it even said to turn after you had passed the road. Is this common with all Quest 2's, or is there a problem with mine? Is there an update or any way to correct this problem? I have NT 8 maps. Thanks for any comments.
  24. For the last two weeks my pocket queries didn't come in. The week before instead of coming in on Friday as usual, they came in on Sunday. Also, some one-time queries didn't come in until the next day after being requested early in the morning. Is anyone else having the same problem with their pocket queries? I have been receiving these for several months with no problems until recently. Thanks.
  25. Ureeka!!!! After more than a year, Good News Bear 1 is back in my possession. I found the ones who had taken it on IM and asked about it. They had recently moved and found it in their stuff and didn't know what it was........ Also, another travel bug, Larry the Travel Bug Cucumber, went missing when a cache was muggled. I recently received an e-mail from a "newbi" who said they found it on their stairs. Anyway, don't give up hope. You just never know.
