    DELFT BLUE

Just a quick update... The coins are in the making! And I must admit that I underestimated the amount of effort that goes into producing such a handmade coin. We assisted in making the first few coins and I'm truly grateful that I don't have to rely on my porcelain skills to earn a living. The evolution: If you don't succeed then try again(check the background...) Artist at work: Look mom, I'm making a coin
  3. Could someone post a picture of the coin(s) please? It will take some time before I get mine, has to travel all the way to Europe.
  4. I'm seriously interested in trading for a couple of SA coins. I've got Dutch 2005 and Dutch 2006 coins. Both are trackable on GC.COM I'm in the Netherlands, but I've got a South African address to trade to, so don't worry about high shipping costs.
  5. As for the achievement coins (100 finds coins), they can be found at: coinsandpins.com They also sell several other coins. I see that they are also on the Tikiwiki list. Most coins are announced on the geocoin forum, best is to keep an eye on the forums for new coins and a link to where they can be bought. Also some coins are sold only through the forums.
  6. Just a quick design idea: The centre part could be a magnetic overlay.
  7. Sorry guys, I won't be able tomake is(10 000 km is just too much) But, C3P, if your travels take you to Holland, feel free to contact me. Maybe we can arange for a couple of caches over here. Good luck!
  8. Just ordered your coins, nice design. I was just in time to order a few sets, they are really flying !! Exciting times for you then, I know because our coin went on sale last week Friday and it is certainly exciting... Will the caching comunity like the coins, will they sell well, etc. One thing is certain, this coin is a winner!

Porcelin is quite fragile, especially shipping it. I expect a bunch of mail losses due to damage/breakage. As a test I carried one around in my back pocket for three weeks and it survived. I'm hoping that they will survive the trip to the US but I'll also add some extra protection. PS. Coin is SOLD OUT.

    DELFT BLUE

This is the first in series of four authentic porcelain geocoins with Dutch Delft Blue artwork. This first series features a traditional windmill and the text "windmolen". Each coin is handmade and is numbered. Each series is limited to a maximum of 125 coins. When we started thinking about making a coin, we both wanted a typical Dutch coin that was truly different from the many geocoins available now. This resulted in the idea of making a handmade porcelain coin finished in the 'Delft Blue' style. Because both of us have two left hands(and square eyes ), we approached Frans Ottink, an acquainted professional porcelain artist. Thanks to Frans the coin has become a piece of art as well. Being a handmade coin produced in limited quantities unfortunately means that this is not the cheapest coin out there. We want to emphasise that we have done everything possible to keep the cost down and that the coin is not sold with the intention to make any personal profit. Any possible profits that might result from the sale of the coins will be donated to a good cause. This coin is trackable with an own icon. We hope that you like the coin. Coin is available on: MY-GEOCOIN PS. Many thanks to Chris Mackey (fox-and-the-hound) for the icon artwork. (indirect link removed, direct link inserted by moderator)
  15. What is it that you would like to do with your phone(appart from phoning )? Do you want to use it for geocaching(ie. with GPS)? Or do you want to use it to browse the geocaching website? I started out with a Mitac Mio with a flip out GPS and then switched to the HP6515 with built-in GPS. I used this for several months and in combination with OZI it is perfect! Well, almost... About the only thing that bothered me was that it was not really intended for outdoor use. After I had dropped it a couple of times and after it got wet and stopped functioning for a couple of days, I decided to get a Garmin 60. I still take the HP with, because it is still handy for those 'on the spot' calculations and as a backup GPS, uh, and I almost forgot, it is also still my phone
  16. Well, I still have to receive vepax's address... so, maybe if he forgets and doesn't see this reply... or you could try to distract him...
  17. Congratz to vespax and Tricky Vicky & Mickey!!! Just PM me with your addresses and I'll get those coins to you.
  18. ... a Dutch 2006 geocoin to the first two South Africans to reply to this topic ... Ok, so why would I do that? Well, firstly because I'd like to see more coins in the country and secondly because my design(bicycle side) was chosen for one side of the coin. Have fun and Happy caching!
  19. And this is what the Twin Peaks coin looks like: And talking about tracking down coins, read this about team TwinPeaks: Two thousand miles, six countries!
  20. Thanks for the quick replies. I'm gonna send Garmin a request to add these features to Mapsource as if they would, but who knows, maybe they've 999 requests for these and the're just waiting for next one...
  21. I've got two Mapsource questions: 1) Is it possible to project a new waypoint from an existing one using Mapsource? 2) When I move the cursor across the map it "snaps" to roads which makes it diffycult to place a waypoint close to a road. Is it possible to switch this option off? Can anyone help with these?

    Geocoin Icon

Hi there fellow cachers, I'm busy with with a rather special coin and I'm at the point where I have to create an icon for the coin. I've tried doing it myself and I've realised that working with only 32 pixels is not easy. It would be a shame to associate my crappy artwork with this coin. So, my question is: Who's willing(and able) to assist me to create an icon? What's in it for you: Well I don't have much to offer, so I thought of exchanging one of the coins for the winning design. And your name will be mentioned on the leaflet that is shipped with the coins... Interested?
  23. Thanks for the address ZAteam... the price does seem a lot lower than the units here, and you've never had any problems? Nope, havn't had any problems(yet). I'm not living in SA(any more), I'm in the Netherlands now. I paid the required 19% VAT(Dutch) and it was still a lot cheaper than bying it anywhere else in Europe. I don't know what the tax/import will be in SA. Keep in mind that Garmin SA might not support the warranty. I know that if I have a problem I would have to send the unit to the UK. But for me it's still worth it and these units are quite sturdy and reliable. As for buying through eBay, I find it very reliable. Just check out the sellers rating and if that's ok, you'll find that they try their very best to ensure a smooth transaction.
  24. My suggestion is to buy it from the US. I've just bought a Cx and then a CSx from the states and they were both much cheaper! I will have a look for the address where I bought from... Ok, this is the address for the CSx: eBay Garmin
