  1. Not me, but at a cache I own: http://www.geocaching.com/seek/log.aspx?LU...c7-778084465ae5
  2. I think I'm lucky. I pretty much enjoy all caches. I enjoy solving puzzles, I enjoy hikes and I enjoy searching for micros!! The only caches I avoid are in "bad" areas of a city or too near a school / playground for me to feel comfortable. I'll only do those if I have my kids with me.
  3. It looks to me like its the loading of the bottom map image that is holing things up. Many times (for me anyways) the page loads to my screen quickly, but waits (and waits and waits) for the map image.
  4. I posted a topic on this the other day and no one answered so I let it slide. It seems the GC system clock is off.... http://forums.Groundspeak.com/GC/index.php?showtopic=176407
  5. Is the Geocaching time/date off by 12 hours. It doesn't seem to flip from "yesterday" to "today" until noon (Pacific Coast time). I see this on a the "search for nearest caches" link from my account page. My profile is set to Pacific time (GMT-8 hours) If this is already being addressed, this can be deleted.
  6. It's getting VERY slow again. New software must be the culprit, as it was running fine before these new "enhancements". Maybe run some sort of performance analysis on new code before you load it?. New enhancements are worthless if you can't maintain response times. If theres one thing I learned in all my years in IT, it's that impacting response times is one of the worst things you can do when loading new software. It usually means the code has to be fallen back and fixed, and fixed so that it works during high impact times. Very frustrating for the users. Can we please have an update.

    Temp caches

I skimmed this thread and I am confused. People keep mentioning not messing with peoples "fun". So what is the fun part of finding these temporary caches? Is it finding them or is it bumping your smiley count?. If it's finding them (which it really should be), then why the big fuss about counting them? My opinion is that a find on Geocaching.com should be limited to an approved Geocaching.com cache. Getting a smiley flpr anything else makes absolutely no sense, other than falsely inflating numbers, but go ahead if it makes you feel good....
  8. Me Too - GC number then cache name, I don't need anything else, but don't care if extra info is tacked on after the cache name
  9. It has sped up again for me. It swould be nice to know if Groundspeak fixed something or if it is volume related, or whatever. It has definitely been slow the last few days and it now seems much better. Hopefully it's permanent. Oh - and thanks to whoever fixed the subject line
  10. Is anybody else noticing a significant increase in response times on the Geocaching site since they loaded the new code? I'm wondering if one of the changes they loaded is a cpu hog, or are some of the production machines off line for programmer testing? If this is already being addressed I am OK With this post being deleted.... How do I edit my typo on the subject line

    Icons

When displaying a list of my caches found there are some coin icons that are not displaying and are replaced by text, causing the screen to get shifted to the right. Example is on page 3 of http://www.geocaching.com/seek/nearest.aspx?ul=Huntcliff Example of coin is http://www.geocaching.com/track/details.as...6c-8792a85c7d53 Happens on Firefox 2.0.0.7 and on IE6.0.2900 (Which I rarely use) I run Windows XP Professional version 2002 service pack 2
  12. I put the gasket back on my old legend C with bathroom silicone over a year ago and it is still holding fine.
  13. I was caching hiking up a hill when a girl came down the path all bloodied. She said she had taken a fall, was knocked out and had just come too. She refused help as she was heading to her friends house at the trailhead (which was only a couple of hundred yards down the hill). I did manage to convince her to take a towel I had to clean herself up, and followed her down the path to make sure she made it to her friends place. LAst I saw of that towel....
  14. Less notes means less space used in the database, which I would have to think is the biggest concern for this site - an ever rapidly expanding database. I realize that this would only be a minor improvement in that regard but every bit helps....
  15. So how do we request this as enhancement for the next release - is this thread sufficient?
  16. I wonder if we could get our trackable inventory available on the edit log session. I and I'm sure everyone has dropped a bug or coin in a cache and forgotten to highlight / drop the bug. It would be nice if you could edit and drop the trackables rather than having to post a separate note to do this. Is it a big deal to program?
  17. Anyone ever read Skinny Dip by Carl Hiasson? Theres a shady (but hilarious) character in the book who collects (Steals) roadside memorials for a hobby and displays them in his backyard. No disrespect meant to anybody, this thread just ,made me remember that.
  18. One of the the best things about going for a FTF is that it really increases the chances of meeting other cachers on the trail, which to me is one of the best parts of caching.
  19. Could be - it was placed in September 2005 (GCQFJ4) which is after the cowboy one mentioned above.
  20. Good - they should be.
  21. Also - some not so noble person could think it is funny and after getting a hold of the bug, they could dip it into caches all over the world racking hundreds of thousands of miles and a huge bill for you. You may want to state that the mileage is counted as theTB changes hands, not as it changes caches.
  22. There is a cache in NC where the container is huge water jug hidden in the woods. It is filled with over 100 film cannisters.Only one of the film cannisters has the log book in it. You have to keep opening them till you find the right one.
  23. I don't really like and have never used the "Discover" type log either, buit other than bugs MAYBE not moving as often I don't see any harm. If people enjoy collecting icons, thats great, lots of different ways to play the game.. Discovering coins and bugs also seems to be a large part of Event caches. There always seems to be a table full of cachers trading / discovering all the trackables. Why stop something people enjoy. And if someone discovers a bug when they should have logged it, I believe everything will recover as soon as it is properly dropped into another cache. No harm done......
  24. Found 273 within 10 miles of here - only 460 (plus any pending new ones) to go!
