  1. When you buy software like Mapsource you are buying a license for “one” computer only. Legally you are supposed to delete it from your computer before you load it into another. ==================================== As always, the above statements are just MHO. ====================================

  4. 12 people sounds a bit to large for newbies. If you could keep it under 6 you may be better off. I would also plan on about 3-4 caches. The first 2 would be caches I've found and in the 1/1 range. The next two could be a little more difficult. If you get skunked on those at least your friends will have the thrill of finding the first two. Some people won't be able to use the GPSr the first time out. Others will want to jump right on it. Let them all take turns using it on the way to the cache. Then when you're in the area take it and put it in your pocket. This will show them to use their eyes to find the cache. About tradeables. Try and explain the idea and let them bring their own. You should carry a bunch of "high" quality tradeables. This will cover anyone who brought a trade down item. Most adults will be happy just to sign the log book. in the next few days just wait and watch what they do. The addicted ones will own a GPSr by payday while the "that was a nice way to spend an afternoon" crowd will forget about it. Most of all try and have some fun yourself. It's a game/hobby/sport. Not a day as a camp counselor. ==================================== As always, the above statements are just MHO. ====================================
  5. Mowing the lawn, planting our garden, pulling weeds, turning compost bins over and general outside home stuff has limited me to 4-5 hours on Sunday. As soon as the weather turns a bit hotter I'll be able to get out more. I have to take advantage of the weather to get "work" done outside. ==================================== As always, the above statements are just MHO. ====================================

  7. I would say to me it is more like a hobby. If I had to pick from the two above though. I would say game. ==================================== As always, the above statements are just MHO. ====================================
  8. I would also like to point out that the person the posted this thread hasn't responded since his first post. This thread has taken an ugly turn. Name calling is uncalled for. ==================================== As always, the above statements are just MHO. ====================================
  9. I could place well over a hundred caches like this along 8th ave. in Mann. Not a very well thought out cache. ==================================== As always, the above statements are just MHO. ====================================

Last time I checked the forum was a "Second" chance for caches that were denied by the moderators. Not a popularity contest. ==================================== As always, the above statements are just MHO. ====================================

  12. quote:Originally posted by Prime Suspect: I'm not really sure why this concept seems so difficult for people to grasp. I understand. You are asking for Geocaching.com and or Groundspeak to do this for you. Until that time (if it ever comes) you have been givin a number of good examples on how to do this yourself. ==================================== As always, the above statements are just MHO. ====================================

  15. Looks to be more of a scavanger hunt type cache. Caches dubbed "scavenger hunt caches" will no longer be approved unless they meet the guidelines above. Maybe I'm missing something though. ==================================== As always, the above statements are just MHO. ====================================
  16. Looks like it's still there for me. I have posts (non-rant posts even) as of 7 mins ago. Maybe it's your server. ==================================== As always, the above statements are just MHO. ====================================
  17. I understand what you want. If you have a place to host the pics. it's a breeze. If not...then it's not easy. I can make a template page for you that will have thumbnails of each photo. Let me know. ==================================== As always, the above statements are just MHO. ====================================
  18. I have a pack that goes on every cache. Whether it's a 1/1 0r a 4/5. It has everything in it I need. It's tough to forget something when it's already there. ==================================== As always, the above statements are just MHO. ====================================

  20. quote:Originally posted by Warm Fuzzies - Fuzzy: I disagree. I think most people will go for both. Eventually, all of the drive-by caches will be exhausted, and all that's left on your front page will be harder ones. < I can attest to this. I only have 8 caches left on my second page and they are at the least 2/2. In fact there are no caches with a one on either side within 10 miles of me. The 1 terrain caches I go with my daughter, 2’s with my wife and anything higher with my son or alone. So if there can’t be to many caches in an area. We can use them all. It sorta opens the game up to everyone no matter what shape they are in or their ability (disability). ==================================== As always, the above statements are just MHO. ====================================

  24. Deep Woods Off is 100 percent DEET. Most of the other bug sprays only last about 20 mins. OFF will last 10 hours. I spray a bit on the back of my neck and a few sprays on my calves. As long as you don't let OFF into your eyes, mouth or nose it's safe. I also take a shower and do a tick check as soon as I get home. The research shows that DEET isn't as dangerous as you have been led to believe. I wouldn't use it on a child 8 and under. The key is to not put it anywhere that your hands will come in contact with it. The other thing you might try is Citronella plants. I grow them on my deck and have no bug problems. It grows like a weed so you could take some leaves with you and rub it on the kids every 20 mins or so. The oil in the leaves is what keeps the bugs away. The latter is as safe as it gets. But the oil will only last 20 mins or so. If you forget to re-apply it you will get buggy again. Good luck. check for ticks and learn the proper way to remove them. Tweezers near the mandibles , don't squeeze the body and pull straight up. ==================================== As always, the above statements are just MHO. ====================================
