So, my second cache, which was the coolest of them all got muggled.
That really sucks! Better luck in the future.

*This may or may not be true!
I'm 100% sure it's a true story...it has happened to me so many times too ;-)

First time I heard about geocaching was in 2003 on TV. I remember thinking to myself "Why would somebody want to find an old box under some bushes?". Later on I discovered the deeper meaning of geocaching and bought the Garmin Colorado I still use. Soon I was hooked :-)
Where and when did you hear about geocaching the first time?

I found 102 before I placed my first cache.

Is anyone else experincing this problem & is Groundspeak aware of it?
No problems here...

I picked up a handy bag while caching on the West coast of France. Nothing special but it has lots of compartments and a shoulder strap is essential for when you need both hands free to climb those rocks. Regarding what is in it that varies but almost always I carry the following:
GPS
Compass
Digital camera / spare battery
Local area map
Pen, permanent marker, pencil, spare pencil
Micro cache with logbook & pencil
Spare plastic bags / rubber bands
Spare logbook
Small items for exchange (old coins usually)
Any TBs I may currently hold
What am I missing?
I have some more examples on my website: Guide-To-Geocaching

Who thinks a cache in the parking lot of an adult book store is appropriate ?
I can't see the problem.
If it was INSIDE the book store it would be another situation ;-)

I've found several that were hung in the bushes that touch or grow almost on top of headstones, or where a person has to stand brushing against said stone or stand on the grave itself to retrieve.
I dont think it's ethical correct to place a cache that near a grave. There are plenty of other places to hide a cache. Let the dead people rest in peace.

Never heard of it, but I'm pretty sure it has nothing to do with 6 feet...

I think you need to be a premium member to download the GPX files...

That's amazing!

I placed a new cache a month before the weather turned colder and we got our first snow fall.
The first few weeks were pretty active, then it has been a few weeks since anyone has reported finding it.
Assuming it is still there and has not been muggled, what might be the reason for the drop-off in activity?
Is this trend typical with new caches? Will it likely pick-back up once the weather is warmer? Do many geocaches sit dormant during colder winter months?
I personally tend to be more inactive in the winter time. But that's just me being lazy. Some of my best experiences was in bad weather, so there really is no excuse not to go

What do you leave in a cache?
When I bring my kids, we usually trade some toys, pens, stickers etc.

Haha that's a great story
I have heard about people finding caches by accident, but only active caches listed on the website.
Congrats with your FTF

We always talk about safety - Just thought the newbies might want to know what can go wrong as compared to what they THINK might go wrong to get ya hurt. So HOW are people getting hurt while caching. Alot of people think people or snakes will be what is going to hurt them. I am guessing not. Lets hear it! From you or what you know happened to others.
Ticks, nettles, small bruises and once I slided down a muddy hill... nothing serious though

I found it! My first ever! It was a little Micro-Cache placed by Hazzard101. Man...those things are tiny! I left my sig, and cautiously replaced it. I can't wait to find one big enough to leave something in. Peace Y'all, Ritz.
My first geocache was one placed by some local boy scouts. It was placed deep inside a bush with very long thorns. When I spotted the cache I just had to go for it - no matter how much I hurt my self
I will never forget it that's for sure!

I personally can't see the problem. It sounds like a creative idea. I could imagine worse things
How did you get your start?

I heard about geocaching in the TV, about 6-7 years ago I think. It sounded fun, and I bought a GPS a while later and got my wife convinced it was something for her as well. Now we both go cache hunting when the time allowes it. Great way to explore our country (Denmark)
