  1. Bad day for Geocaching in Southern Kaliforniastan!
  2. Those who say they other people should enjoy geocacing only "for the hunt" are amusing. I wonder if they would enjoy metal detecting just for joy of swinging the detector from side to side, even if they find no coins. I wonder if they enjoy a fishing trip as much when they catch no fish or tiny fish. Geocashing is a "treasure" hunt. Locating a box of trash lessens it to locating a box of trash.

Did you try adjusting the detail and the contrast? I am EXTREMELY happy with my Meridian Gold. You will really appreciate the larger viewing screen when you're driving your car. (You might be telling yourself you won't use your GPS while driving, but you will ) Two othe advantages, rarely mentioned, are the raised frame that protects the viewing screen and the rubber coating of the unit. The size of the unit only seems large when you're holding it next to a smaller one. In a short time it becomes very easy to operate the unit with one hand. I've never owned the Garmin unit but I can tell you, with great confidence, that if you get a Meridian Gold you are going to be VERY happy. Gus Morrow Oceanside, CA

  5. Garmin got some great press this morning on one of the morning shows (can't remember which) for their new Rhino two way radios. http://www.garmin.com/products/rino/ I wonder if the peer to peer feature will spur cache locating races. Gus Morrow Oceanside, CA

I know some guys who enjoy the convenience and novelty (never know what's in it) of an occasional MRE, I am thinking of hiding a cache (ammo box) and possibly including a new (fresh, not out of date) MRE as a "first finder" bonus. I LOVE MRE's. They just announced NEW ones that will contain snacks similar to "Hot Pockets". You can heat them up with the included chemical reaction (non flame) heat packs. I once invited my parents and brother's family over for dinner. When they all sat down we passed out MREs. It was a riot (but we did have a back up, freshly cooked, meal). 7. In my opinion, seeing pictures posted of people who have visited a cache GREATLY increases the fun of the geocaching experience. It's very interesting when you can see the people who have visited the same cache you found. I'd like to thank those who spend the time and money to put a camera in their cache and then post the photos. I realize this isn't practical for everyone who places a cache but, for those who can, THANK YOU. Gus Morrow Oceanside,CA
