  1. The only problem that I have is with a very large (~ 1gig) aerial map that I cut at zoom level 14 as this might take about 10 second to re-draw. I only use this while hiking so it is not a big deal at all. Using just the regular Topo7 maps, this does not happen at all.
  2. The PN-20 has the best maps hands down. There really isn't that much difference between the sensitivity. I can hold my PN-20 in front of me in the vehicle and not lose a signal at all. Works very well in heavy tree cover as well. If you are going to use this outdoors, then the PN-20 is the one for you. If you get one, just learn the basics first, then you can dive in and tackle everything else
  3. Good choice. Any questions you might have, stop on over at the DeLorme boards. **Edit - just saw your post there
  4. Maybe DeLorme will have another $299 sale when the tax rebates come around.
  5. I saw your post over there after I posted here.
  6. A lot might have to do with the imagery that you have. Below is a screen shot at zoom level 16 with no pixelation. Anything past that is kind of fuzzy (zoom level 17 is not too bad but I don't need it).
  7. For now, to the best of my knowledge, you have to do it this way. It is really not a hassle after you do it a few times. What particular issue are you having or why is it complicated? A very easy way to set this up is to hit the Find button-->Enter (choose waypoints and then choose Geocaches)-->Menu-->Switch to Map Center. Once you have these steps complete, it will be set this way until you change it. Hope this makes sense and helps ya some. Also, stop on over at the DeLorme Boards.
  8. Take a look at the DeLorme PN-20. If you have an image, then it can go on the PN-20 using their XMap Pro software. There are tons of free satellite imagery out there just waiting to be out on the PN-20. A couple of screen shots below.
  9. The PN-20 can't be beat for geocaching, hiking, off road and other similar type activities. It works for road use but not as good as a dedicated road unit.
  10. To add to embra's post, it might also depend on how much info you have in the comment field as well (I could be way off on this but the more info in there, the more it has to search)?
  11. I love the ability to now have the roads/streams/contours displayed over aerial imagery now :D
  12. Yes. Go to the link and all the items in bold are new.
  13. http://delorme.com/support/supporttemplate.aspx?id=380 Great list of updates!
  14. For outdoor use the PN-20 can't be beat. It does pretty good on the road but not quite as good as the Garmin (I used my PN-20 to route me to the beach and had no issues). Using Topo7, the maps (DeLorme Topo, 3DTQ, SAT10, NOAA Charts, high res city and color/black and white DOQQ's) are the best hands down and make up for the smaller screen size.
  15. Another quick thought is, are the cut detailed maps actually on his PN-20?
  16. First make sure that you have Roads (Minor) checked in he Options. Hit the Find button (I selected Streets/Trails). I typed in the State and Movie and got the results in about a 1/2 a second. I centered on the map I cut and did te search with no problems and I also did the search from home which is 2200 miles away and found with no problems.
  17. No doubt about it, nothing beats the DeLorme mapping. The PN-20 is able to separate the waypoints to what ever you want. You can even search by Near Map Center, Name, Name Contains and Name Begins With. I used to be the same way until I started using the PN-20. The maps have been so good that I don't need the compass anymore. Both are great units, it just depends more on what your needs are.
  18. Here are the screen shots for routing.
  19. Chip, thanks for finding that post. I was looking and looking last night but for some reason could not find it.
  20. If you need that many, I would suggest calling the major players. DeLorme - 1.800.561.5105 Garmin - usually have to go with one of their dealers (unable to find a Sales #)
