  1. See you at the Griffin then Bill! Mines a Cold Guinness... Andy'll put you straight, then I'll tell you how it really works. Seriously seeing as you are local, if you need help, I'll hook up with you sometime soon and get you all sync'd up. Let me know what you've got to play with and we'll take it from there. Cheers Dave
  2. To start with and so I don't get flamed for going over old ground read this thread first. Link Cheers Dave
  3. A little bit of knowledge is a dangerous thing... Andy read your own sig! What Andy says is basically correct....for him. However he is running a version of roolku's script to export his icons and html files from GSAK... it doesn't sound like you are as yet....once you do you'll never go back! Cheers Dave
  4. General rule of thumb (my thumb that is) is that rural micros cheapskate! Why place a film canister where an ammo box or similar can be hidden? Micros should only be used where a larger container can't be hidden. i.e. urban locations where the hide should be clever to at least give some sense of satisfaction in finding it. Like previous posters I agree that micro's thrown in hedges show little or no imagination. As part of a well constructed multi I have no worries about them. Kids hate 'em and this for many (no not all, I agree) is supposed to be a family pastime, I hate having to bribe them to find micro's [] Cheers Dave
  5. Don't believe a word of it! He's not nice... he isn't seventy... I bet he's not much more than fifty if the truth be told!!!! I demand a recount on his finds!!!! Well I'm just a bit miffed that he arranged this combined 70th Birthday/1000 Finds/new cache whilst I'm out of the country...... Now that I've calmed down I s'pose I could say.... CONGRATULATIONS... Grifin ASAP? Andy's buying apparently Cheers Dave
  6. Not as wet as we got Bob! Remember this on your Jonny Cash series? Took us about an hour all told but we never gave up! Cheers Dave
  7. In the same vein, I or rather my son has a cache in some local woodlands. I always put a sticker on the box identifying it as a geocache with its name, our user name and the GAGB answerphone number on it. 07092 040 416 Whilst on holiday in the south of France last year I recieved an email from the Bill D (wwh) wearing his GAGB hat informing me that someone had found my cache and would I contact them ASAP on a mobile phone number. I texted them straight away explaining that I would be in touch as soon as we arrive home, expecting the person to be local to the cache and consequently to our home. On arriving home I rang to enquire if they had kept the cache for me... ...He said he certainly had kept our "little box of cars" safe and sound. I'll pop 'round for them now then if that's OK....where do you live? Childwall, Liverpool came the answer... ..He'd been out walking his dog in our locale whilst visiting relations and his dog had unearthed the cache. Not knowing wher he got it from he decided to take it home....some 10-15 miles away! We went around straight away to collect it, not wanting and infact refusing a monetary reward for his goodwill I, with his permission, gave a fiver to his kids to buy some sweets/comics etc. The cost of the journey to pick it up and the "reward money" far outweighed the value of the cache but I was made up that a "muggle" had taken the time and effort "to do the right thing" rather than bin it or worse still vanalise it and scatter the contents, as sooo often happens! [] Cheers Dave
  8. Probably the "Millenium Bug" Y3K ! Theres always Letterboxing to fall back on.. Cheers Dave
  9. GPS? GPS60csx Time caching? 1yr 4.5 months How did you find out about it? Trail Walker Mag & research for a holiday on Dartmoor using Google turned up references to Letterboxing...this led onto further references to Geocaching.... Most in a day? Prior to Mongy's Termonally Lazy Power trail I think it was about 17 now it's 26! usual day out is 8ish I s'pose. FTFs? Only 4 I think...not my bag, if I'm first then great but there's not much point with PhilPamandRob nearby I like a good nights sleep.. (I am terminally lazy..really) How do you take your listings with you? Ipaq RX4100 & Roolku's excellent export script to Memory Map and HTML files. Favourite 5 caches found excluding events (no getting out of this one!) Mostly Piemans:- Blink X Truth is Out There Plus others that I daren't mention.. Favourite 1 cache set? Geosleuth What roughly is your "Found" to "Did Not Find" ratio? 40/1 guess! How many caches in the dark have you found? +/-10 5 caching annoyances? Dog crap in plastic bags hanging in hedgerows. Dog crap on footpaths. Litter. Loose dogs! Yes Andy (big loose DOGS..not little ones, sheep or horses) Pointless micros were something bigger or better could have been placed 5 caching pleasures? New friends, Views, Finding unexpected places, Ammo Cans!! luv em. Milestones. Easiest find? Plenty to choose from... Merely has to be up there but I did find one up a hill in North Wales, sat on top of a dry stone wall... Hardest find? Duck for Cover...before the Rangers removed all the Rhodedhendrons!!!!! 3 visits.. oh yes and Rainbow Orange..don't know what I was doing wrong there but I think it's been moved now anyway. Hardest puzzle completed? Mutato Nominae has a lot to answer for..... Eventually I had to request help from a third party... he/she shall remain nameless for fear of repercussions! Hardest puzzle yet to complete? Not really got one on the go at the moment... "Road to Nowhere" needs to be tackled soon though!

  11. Caching for 502 days, 702 finds and 62 are now archived (not including events) That's 8.8% so that's not too bad is it? 6.4% p.a. Cheers Dave
  12. Good idea and one that I will take on board next time I export from MM to Pocket Navigator. I also get this sort of thing happening from time to time if I am using Pocket Navigator without a live feed from a GPSr. If it has a constant feed it behaves nicely all day. Cheers Dave
  13. Going paperless will save you using your printer and buying ink cart's but as you now know it won't help you avoid computers in any way at all, if anything you will be more embroiled in the wonderful world of gadgetry etc... that some of us enjoy...sometimes...when it works ! Sorry Dave
  14. I still maintain a full UK DB on GSAK, however people often get confused about the nature of PDA's they are what they say a "Personal Digital Assistant". They are not a full blown PC/Laptop. Use them for what they are... a convenient way of carrying information with you for day to day tasks... including caching. I agree if you are able it's great to download up to the minute information but I usually go caching when the opportunity arrises and it's usually a dash out of the door or something to do whilst waiting around when I'm away from home. So for me having all bases covered is quite important. I gather the full UK DB over the course of a week and update my PDA once, maybe twice a week. Using a selection of filters I download unfounds 30m around home minus puzzle caches as they are usually false coords anyway, Motorway mayhems and then do any other filters for places that I know I am headed to over the next few days... these I will usually keep to 5-7mile radius of my hotel etc. The resulting caches for all the above filters I apply a user flag to and then finally filter for all user flags before exporting the csv file for MM and HTML files. This usually gives me around 500 caches on my PDA at any one time. The Ipaq flies with this amount of waypoints on...clicking on the icons brings up the offline html page.... Cheers Dave
  15. Doubt your PDA will handle 13000+ waypoints. Everything will slow down and eventually crash as you've found out. Try limiting it to around 500 caches. You need to filter using GSAK and select the areas and cache types that you are interested in etc. Your PDA needs updating at least once a week anyway as cache information changes constantly and caches get archived etc. Cheers Dave
  16. Just done all mine in 5 mins for about 18 caches, 2 per page but it was no hassle at all. Keep up the good work lads. Cheers Dave
  17. How about caches with the same name in close proximity? 2 caches in Bournemouth set by different cachers in the same park only about .13 miles apart, both called "Meyrick Park"! Cheers Dave
  18. Wots a G-mail? Now also known as googlemail... it's a web based email account that can also be accessed directly by GSAK. So they are perfect for PQ's. Cheers Dave
  19. Yeah..but no, but yeah but no but... yeah... ...guilty as charged! It's gone now...Sorry! Cheers Dave
  20. Ok ,thank you everyone for all your help and advice. 21. Looking forward to it already... ETA? Cheers Dave
  22. I think I've found a suitable work around. I can load GPX's with the option not to chance the cache status to found. Then when I load "My Finds" gpx once a week that will update it accurately. Cheers Dave
  23. I have just loaded a PQ into my database that was generated for another cacher. It has increased my found caches which ordinarilly I would be pleased about but I want the database to be accurate. Apart from using the "date found by me" and clicking on each cache individually to change the cache status back to "unfound" is there a simpler way, or a macro that can do this automatically after such an import. BTW we are bpoth premium members so there is nothing untoward here. Cheers Dave
  24. Big congrats Tony on your milestone. When I saw the topic of the thread I thought you'd placed another 974 caches along The Oldham Way. Cheers Dave
