    MOONSHINE 2008!

ONE MONTH FROM TODAY!!!!!!!!!! I had lunch at Moonshine today...YUMMMM...Helen was asking about the event. She's very excited to see us all come back. Be sure to post your "Will Attend" notes and register on GeoMoonshine too!
  2. Make sure you hit "Nice View of the Water" at Millcreek Park. That one about killed me!
  3. This is a Geocaching.com issue. I'm moving it over to that forum.
  4. Y'know, it does raise an interesting question. If the vast majority of geocaches in the world are now micros then shouldn't they be called "Regular caches" and regular caches be called something else? I vote for "Super Happy Fun Caches" as the new nomenclature for previously regular caches.
  5. Other than the lack of a hood, the jacket in the geocaching shop stays nice and dry. I've wore it in all kinds of weather.
  6. In April 2007 I started a streak that went 52 days...I think. It was made a little easier by a local who supported my goal by hiding some caches close to home. I've considered doing it again but I live in a very rural area. Any caching I do requires a lot of driving. With gas prices like they are it just doesn't seem like a very responsible thing to do in my area. I will say this for those of you streakers...that first day you DON'T find a cache is very liberating...but it's only liberating AFTER the first day. Right up until 11:30 pm I was telling myself, "Go on...go find one...you know you want to!"
  7. We're having an organizational meeting in a week or so (yes...we're trying to be organized) so I'll have a few more details posted about Moonshine then. As for coin trades - they just sorta happen naturally. It's a good idea though. We might try to give the coin people their own space either at Moonshine or at the Hangover event. Bret

    MOONSHINE 2008!

I haven't decided if t-shirts will be available at the event or not. For now they are available on the event website: GeoMoonshine.Com. As for going Mega....it looks like we've got about 61 registered so far...so it'll take a few more before we get there.
  9. That depends on which digits you're askin' about.
  10. Awwww thanks, it was good to see you guys too! We got home late and I slept like a rock! Ugh.....fun day!
  11. Moving this to the local forum where it will get the proper attention it needs. Bret
  12. What I've found is this: I enjoy the traditional caches because of the hikes and views, I enjoy the quick urban micros because of the company I'm with. If I head to the city on my own I'll hit one or two caches and that's all I need, but if I'm with other people we drive around and have a blast together. I guess the recipe for me isn't so much what I weed out as who I include.
  13. It kind of reminds me of this NPR article I read a few weeks ago. My first thought was (of course), "I wonder if that would work as a cache container."
  14. Markwell!!!! Oh...and a shot of the original:
  15. We have a newbie around here who has started doing something wonderful....and it started by accident. He hid a cache near where one of the first caches in the area had been. A few of us "old timers" mentioned how nice it was to be brought back to the area so he began purposely searching out some of the locations of the old archived caches (with a little help from some of us). The result has been a revival of some great hikes and a lot of fond memories. It's amazing to see how much some of those old areas have changed over the years. A lot of those old caches are just gone. It might not take much to revive them.
  16. I'm gonna go off topic for a moment and say--caching experiences aside--it is REALLY NICE to see you and your wacky elephant avatar here again! You've been missed!
  17. I have to wonder, during the time that Cracker Barrel allowed caches on their property, how many cachers sent "thank you" notes to either the management or corporate? How often did we make our appreciation known for them taking part in our game? And now some people call for boycotts? It's like they say, "You can catch more flies with honey than with Vinnie's soiled t-shirts." But really I don't think it's all that many more.
  18. There's another one out there...uhhh....somewhere...... It's on the tip of my signature line.
  19. I love doing this kind of stuff. I posted this one the other day. It's my most recent: That was a fun cache. I found this one out at GeoWoodstock VI: This was taken on a very cold day of caching: That's actually the cache container I'm holding. A very cool puzzle cache: I did a whole series of these for my log on this cache I did this after some of us walked to a 5-star terrain cache: And I did this one for koneko to explain how she got to a very difficult cache: I also have several pictures from some "paranormal" caches that have been...ummm...fixed. It's a lot of fun and I get a lot of great emails from people who enjoy them.
  20. Here's a couple things that might help: 1. Always use the "print" button on the PDF plugin itself. Not the print button on your browser. 2. Set the print scaling to "Fit to printable area." Give those a shot and see if they work for you. Bret
  21. WOW! Must of been a fun birthday drive between Effingham and Marshall. A belated Happy 40th to ya, too. And it looks like it's just about a week and a half away from adding another cache to highway 40 Awwww, thanks. It was quite a day...they really surprised me. I was equally surprised that I managed to get FTF on all of them. It was about a 5 and a half hour trip to #40. I figured by the time I got there someone would have snagged it. I don't know if everyone was just being kind or if I'm just the only guy who had the day off that day. Prior to the 40, my record was 15 in one day. That time the caches had been sitting around for 2 or 3 days with no finds yet. It was over Christmas and the weather had been bad....I suppose both factors kept people from rushing out to get them. As for 41....ugh....it doesn't sound nearly as much fun as 40.
  22. Forty. Gosh...that was almost a year ago. I hope they don't try anything stupid on Highway 41 this year.
