  1. You could do a box on land that has dive cards that are waterproof. You sign your name on the card and then dive down the the cache and deposit your card.
  2. And he just placed a new cache last night.
  3. Yeah this cacher is not in the service, he has over 500 hides, and has his summers off...
  4. You are 100% correct. You should never be jumped on for using the nm or na crosses correctly. It is part of being a responsible cacher. Obviously you need to use them responsibly but that should be obvious.
  5. It's really no different from the mega trails, the mega trails they are closing down.
  6. You guys are wonderful. I wanted to make sure I wasn't crazy. When I first saw these caches POP up I was very confused. I, like you guys, was under the impression that maintaining a hide was part of the job.
  7. There are a bunch of caches showing up in my area that are gcrm. If you are familiar it apparently means the owner placed the cache for the community to maintain. So if you dnf they ask you to replace it. Just wondering what the forums think about this.
  8. Yep. But please still add your votes so they know how strongly this is needed.
  9. http://feedback.geocaching.com/forums/75775-geocaching-com/suggestions/1409739-change-the-available-in-winter-wording-to-somethin please vote for this so we can get this fixed.
  10. http://feedback.geocaching.com/forums/75775-geocaching-com/suggestions/1409739-change-the-available-in-winter-wording-to-somethin This is the link to the feedback post if you agree please vote.
  11. I did start one there about adding a winterfriendly attribute...do you think I should start a please define the available in winter attribute?
  12. I wonder if Jeremy still reads these forums. I would be grateful for a comment from him on this subject.
  13. I agree that a change is needed. It is clear that there are many different interpretations of what this attribute means.
  14. I have my alerts go to my email on my phone. I also am a mobile cacher so it is quick easy to get out and grab a ftf. I have 4 atm. My first was at 9pm in a snow storm. sometimes you have to be willing to go out in less then optimal conditions. My 2nd ftf was at 8pm with negative windchill. But sometimes...sometimes you get lucky. I had planned a trip to a heavily populated cachers area and at 8am when I arrived there were 2 caches released. Ftf numbers 3 and 4. As the others said..just keep ready. Also...know your reviewers patterns. We have two here and one of them publishes as they come in so it could be any time. The other however, only publishes caches after 6pm. So I have two nights a week ready to hunt caches on his nights.
  15. Anyone else have any other opinions? I so far see most people are in agreement that the attribute means able to be found in snow...so why are people using it the wrong way?
  16. So I guess there is no original intent comments anywhere we could reference? It is just. Frustrating that everyone takes it to mean different things. Could we add a winter friendly attribute?
  17. No not at all. I'm not trying to dog them. There are others aswell. They are just the most obvious ones because they have so many hides out it happens to them more often. It is not a slam against them it is more that I respect them because of their spot in the caching community and I don't want to offend them by doing something the wrong way. That is why I posted it here to see what the appropriate action would be.
  18. Around here that kind of snarkiness will get you a message from a reviewer asking you to refrain from using the logs for such things. I assume you were joking Ofcourse I was joking. If you read the rest of the post you would have seen that. I'm not a mean person. I just find it odd that this particular family who prides themselves on being prolific finders and hiders chooses to ignore their old caches.
  19. I'm not trying to be the cache police but it is frustrating to me to go into a state park and waste my time looking for a bunch of hides that are NM and in a few cases completely missing. It happens and I realize this. I posted the NM and they seem to have been completely ignored. Worse they continue to place hides without repairing the ones they already have.
  20. I assume you mean the cache must meet all three guidelines right? In this circumstance the owner is still very much active and still placing hides...2 today even. The inner meany in me really wants to post a note on the new hide about how amazing it is they are placing new hides when they have so much maintenance to do. I however appreciate the fact that they are so prolific as it means there are more hides for me to find. Obviously I would never note their other hide but I do deep I need to start logging some of these NA hides as such. I last looked for a few of these in November...should I go out and look at them again before I log them as NA?
  21. What about the ones that are still there but in serious need of repair...example...the log is soaked and frozen due to half of the cache container being missing. And even worse...in a series one is missing, two are in very bad shape, one is missing the original log that had the finals cords on it.
  22. II have never had a problem causing a fuss, it is more that I'm new to the ethics of caching...I have made plenty of errors in my life and am not afraid to take a little heat to fix the issues. I just want to make sure I'm in the right to do so. They have about 30 I feel need the tag.
  23. There are a number of caches near me that are owned by a family that has over 300 hides. Just this week they placed 4-5 new hides. I have no problem with people having a large number of hides so long as you maintain them. This particular family has a bunch of old hides and some newer ones that are either in serious need of maintenance or are missing completely. There have been numerous NM logs but no one seems to be willing to post the NA log. I have only been caching for about 3 months now and I don't wish to make this family mad at me but I'm very tired of coming across a number of their hides that i end up having to log as dnf because they don't care to maintain them. I live in Wisconsin and it has been snowing here since December. If I posted a NA log now they will just end up waiting until spring to fix it anyway. But what is the normal process for dealing with poor maintenance of caches?
