  5. However Geocaching is a celebration to the termination of Selective Availability. I don't think it should be brought back just because you don't anti-up. Preperation, the first law to survival.
  6. I'm not sure what model, might be the 7868. I have a $40 dollor modem dongle and I'm on the internet right now. I have 3000 minutes on the weekend, with free internet access as long as I don't go over my minutes. Preperation, the first law to survival.

  8. quote:Originally posted by argent:Personally I use a broom handle I picked up at Home Depot for about $6.I won't fret over using or discarding it. Good idea. You could buy 6' oak dowls in the lumber section for about $4. You could get a thinner lighter diameter too. Preperation, the first law to survival.
  9. quote:Originally posted by solohiker:I mean the stick is always in my hands. I think I would have to develop a special technique or skill to get a gun/pepper spray in my hand fast enough to be effective. Carrying a pistol on my belt seems absurd. Of course it would be absurd to carry a fire arm on your belt. Unless you wear a jacket all the time. There are plenty of good and comfortable ways to carry a fire arm. A walking stick sounds like a great first responce to a leathal force situation. You can't be expected to carry your fire arm in your hand every where. Preperation, the first law to survival.
  10. quote:Originally posted by 2manytoyz:lightweight gun, look at the Kel-Tec 32 cal. pistol. VERY lightweight. Only 6.6 oz empty. It's a double-action only, so it's very safe to carry. I have two of them, one is carried by the wife. I have a Beretta Tomcat .32 acp, simular dimensions. Nice pocket gun. quote:As someone once said to me, "it's the gun you carry when you're not carrying a gun". Yea, I've got a .38, .357, .45, etc., but those are all too heavy to put in my shorts pocket during the Summer unless my ankles need the shade. Don't kid yourself into thinking a .32 doesn't have enough knock down power. True... True... Preperation, the first law to survival.
  11. I carry a Glock 27, very nice size, every where. Nice size and weight. I carry it in a waist pack mostly, or a side compartment in my hiking day pack. God bless the Second Amendment> Preperation, the first law to survival.
  12. I went to a cache like that but I wont share the link. SPOILER It's in Kirkland though. Pictures spoilers to the owner deletes them if you post them. I'm not triing to ruin other searchers experiance They didn't have to look at the link if they didn't want to. Just sharing with the thread. Preperation, the first law to survival. 14. I was initally interested in the Rinos. Then after thinking about use and application, I didn't see the need to have other users show on my GPSr screen. Plus the fact you have to have two of the Rinos to get that feature. I thought it was a very expensive novelty. Well My friend and I went on this cache yesterday. It's listed as an off trail hike. Which it is, and deserves the 4 1/2 star listing. Well on the hike out we were sepporated and one of us found the road first. We used FRS radios the GPSr and whistles to locate each other. Which sent one of us zig-zagging on the 50 degree slope we were climbing. I think the Rino would have been a very nice tool to have on this hike. Especially because the visabillity in the brush was 15' or less. Just thought I would share my testament to the projected usefullness of the Rino. Preperation, the first law to survival.
  15. quote:Originally posted by Lazyboy & Mitey Mite: In fact I dislike the "picky" attitudes that some cachers have. It does nothing to promote the hobby Well I'm sure there are those that dislike your self rightious attitude. quote:-and in fact will make some newer cachers nervous about placing a cache. After all they'd hate to have a picky cacher call their cache lame. If you don't like it, I suggest keeping it to yourself and just behaving. All opinions are valid. If your an intelligent researcher, you should read all the complaints or bad reviews. To get a well rounded point of view. Even your ridiculous, self rightious opinion is welcome. 17. I have eatten a couple of things. One was a sealled container of mini-M&Ms. The other was a raspberry trail bar, which I inspected very well. I suppose I chould have been poisoned or maymed like some of those halloween urban legends. I'm still kicking around. Unless it was one of those slow acting poisons. 18. Dowsing is a uiji board, sort of psychic, kind of searching method. You use a bent Y shaped twig. Or a pair of bent wires on ball bearings. When searching the twig is supposed to point when your near the target. The wires are supposed to cross on target. Like the board, dowsing is a sub-consience manipulation of low-tech instruments. Which can lead people, even the user, to believe there is some kind of supernatural influence. Believe what you like. Just have fun. Preperation, the first law to survival.
  19. Well you can make a cache any theme you want. However you can't make people stick to that theme. Not everyone will have patches to trade. I'm sure the cache will get patches that are not from the scouts. I think it would be fun to look through the patches. I would go to a patch cache. Preperation, the first law to survival.
  20. quote:Originally posted by vds: I can't rightly claim a find, but it doesn't seem fair to log a no-find when the cache was obviously plundered. Obviously you don't deserve the find. quote:When I'm pretty sure I found the location, but but you didn't find it... quote:I "log only" on the web site (so my record of where I've been is up to date) and then stick it on my watch list just in case somebody later finds it (in which case I'd edit my log to a no-find). How selfish. Lead people to believe that you found the cache, just so you can take it off your search page. Not only will people believe that the cache is still there, but it will drop off the watch list for Admin. So that it doesn't get archived. After you falsely log your visit, those other people watching the cache head back out to search for it again because you logged as a find. quote:So far I think my numbers are something like 105 found, 1 no-find and 4 would'a but found them plundered. That's 5 no-finds. Preperation, the first law to survival.
  21. quote:Originally posted by georgeandmary: When I got back home that evening, I logged the find. I normally don't claim a find unless I sign the log, but there was no log left. Is that a find? No. Preperation, the first law to survival.
  22. quote:Originally posted by KD9KC: With modern cartridges, the latest 9mm is nearly as effective as the .45. The stopping power page rated the best .45 at 96%, and the best 9mm at 94%. Wow I've never seen the .45 listed with a one shot stop percentage so high. It's usually 86% or lower. quote:Personally, if I were to own but one, it would be a SIG or H&K in .40 S&W.Excellent Choice in caliber! quote:A solid hit with ANY calibur is better than a clean miss with the best calibur.
