  1. AARG - minor hijak here because I got a warning from a thread:

Your Grand Experiment topics spread all over the forums are spamming.  I am deleting some and locking the rest.  Please keep this in mind as you use the forums in the future.

    I replied:

Thanks for the heads up, however, I disagree.

My reason for posting the same in English was because I was translating many of the threads into the "native" languages in hopes of being able to send more coins worldwide.

    Thanks anyhow.

    ~Rose

Anyone see any wrong here - since I know that not "everyone" speaks English and/or was translating the thread (English at top then Spanish/French/etc) at the bottom in the individual forums? I mean I feel like the only way to get the message out is to make the details available to everyone that we're trying to distribute - and in their own language.

I mean I can *kind* of see the point, but somewhere I would hope that the moderators would be leniant - for the good of the experiment - and understanding for why it was the same "english" text but different language translation.

    GERR...

  2. Adding to list of people who are interested in distributing:

    phamtom - to Quebec Canada

Re: Patience - No problem Jaybee. I think I can understand why there's a bit of skepticism there from me posting on one board in NZ v/s them finding the info here.

  3. I've followed the link in the sig.

The instructions are atrocious, to say the least - and I can't help but wondering if they are deliberately so.

    That - plus

In order to qualify for the Special Group Coin purchase
mentioned here, plus the effort that someone has gone to to publish all these links has got my scam-detector quivering.

There are plenty of coins in the wild - any of us here would be willing to distribute them. There is no need for this wierd tiered distribution system - unless it really is part of a scam.

    Hi Kiwi,

I actually know both these guys personally that are working on a coin. I would reassure you it's not a scam, but since I'm the one that registered and posting on the NZ boards, I know that my reply will be just as subject to skepticism.

I'll try and simplify, but really, the only thing I wanted when I posted was people to simply put coins in the wild - that's all. (as in person A below) So if you're not interested in doing the rest, that's just fine.

In a nutshell, here's how it works (simplified):

Coin owner sends out 3 activated coins to one person or persons. (we'll call them person A) for distribution into geocaches.

Coin owner sends out 3 other coins to 3 other people (not activated, one each) - persons B,C, D. Persons B,C, D can keep the "incentive" coin to add to their collection, register or whatever. It's an "incentive" that they will take 3 of their owned coins in hopes of putting them in the hands of someone else to start the cycle again.

The Yahoo link is simply to keep track of who's participating/sent coins to whom/etc.

If you accept 3 coins to distribute into the cache (as in you're being person A) you do not need to do anything else other than put them into caches.

If you're being person B, C, D, and accepting an "incentive" coin, we'd like to see you continue the cycle. Only the persons "B,C,D" would be eligible for the special coin to be made. The coins will be available to the first 100, only one coin per person.

The thing to keep in mind is that for those of us sending out coins, we are doing it in hopes of making more coins available. There are roughly at least 50 different icons out there for individual coins, but most of the coins (for example, US state coins all have a different icon) are never seen because they have gone straight to collections. It's our way of trying to help out fellow geocachers.

  4. Ok I'm done sending coins for a while.. but there's plenty of others here who can send them.

For now, I'm broke - and out of coins to send! (note that several of these are 1 coin each so... ) Here's where all they're going:

    United Kingdom

    France

    Germany

    Estonia

    Portugal

    Germany

    Egypt

    South Africa

    Iraq

    Mexico

    United States

I think I've done my part to cover the world .. I'm just missing Australia/NZ and somewhere in South America to send them. (when I get more coins, I'll be in touch with people from there...) Can you say I went a *little* overboard?

    ~Rose

PS: Jaybee, I think we have lots of people willing to distribute - hope you don't mind!

  5. I'll join in - if I get this right people send me three unactivated coins that I put in the wild.

I send three unactivated coins to other people, hoping they'll also put them in the wild.

    Please correct me I'm wrong.

So - I'd like any coin for which I don't already have an icon.

I'll come back with what I can send out...

    Not exactly.

Kitty Hawk, they send you 3 ACTIVATED coins to put into caches.

If you want to get 1 coin that you don't have to keep/register for your own, that would be UNACTIVATED.

So, those that are distributing send:

3 activated for the other party to put into caches

and 3 (one per person) for those to continue the game on.

  6. Haggis Hunter, Nellies Knackers

Basically, here's how it works (many of us are still trying to fulfill part 1):

This is a grand experiment in hopes of getting coins into caches. For those meeting both part 1 & part 2 below, they will be able to purchase a special coin (one per person). If you wish to participate fully, then please register for the yahoo group at:

    The Grand Experiment database

Part 1. You find someone who is willing to place 3 coins into caches for the finders to either keep, or pass along. Preferably that person already has those coins, so will not be tempted to just keep them. There is no obligation with this part other than to actually place the coins into caches.

NOTE: Accepting the 3 "cache" coins does NOT qualify you in any way...the "sender" is the only one able to claim that as Part #1. (this is what we're running out of people to do and why I made the posts to different country forums)

Part 2. You send out the 3 "spawner" coins. Now this part gets tricky because you are trying to find someone who does NOT have those coins. The recipient of the "spawner" is under no obligation to send out any coins...but this is the incentive for them to participate in the project. They can certainly use the "spawner" coin as part of their "cache" or "spawner" obligation in order to qualify for the privelige to purchase the Special Project Coin.

I hope this helps - if you're still confused, please let me or Jaybee or someone know. We'll try to help.

    ~Rose

  7. I think about 30? That's rough counting though.

For those of you interested, I have now been bombarded via email and have far more people wanting to distribute coins than I have coins to distribute. So, I've told them I will post their ID and location here. They all do read/speak some English (maybe just don't feel comfortable coming to this forum), so let's get those coins out there (Yes, I even had to answer a few questions for what geocoins ARE):

geopeitur301 - will distribute to Estonia (there are few caches and no geocoins there - great place to send a few!)

West468 - will distribute to Münster, Germany area

hikerbiker - will distribute to Finland

Team Firefox - will distribute to Finland

MAntunes - will distribute to Lisbon Portugal area (you may want to PM him - our email keeps filtering both my email and his responses for some reason)

Pablo Davalos - will put them in Mexico

Ok so this is a partial list... but I'm sure I will add to it. I have posted to Greece, United Kingdom, France, and New Zealand as well.

** Note that most of the above would prefer geocaching.com trackable coins just for ease of translation/tracking use, though they will gladly accept what they can get.

  8. Howdy Guys!

I thought this might interest a few of you, but you'd need to jump over to a different thread.

If you see the thread at:

Grand Experiment - Geocoins in the Wild

Several of us are required to send 3 geocoins for someone to put into the wild. We've run out of people to continue the experiment, and since I don't see anyone there interested in tossing a few geocoins into caches in UK (we have several going to Europe) I thought I would post here to see if anyone wanted hop into that thread and possibly offer to help distribute coins into the "wild".

If you are interested in placing these geocoins, please check out the thread and feel free to post - we want to cover the world with geocoins IN caches.

    Thanks!

    Translation from Babelfish:

    Bonjour!

    Merci ! ~Rose

  10. Oh my! For those of you who don't know what they are, they work like travel bugs, but are coins. They have seperate icons for tracking them - and are difficult to find in geocaches because people like to collect them.

For an example of a few I've released, you may want to check out:

    http://www.geocaching.com/profile/Default....21-fea40c2a3257

to see the icons and (if you click on the Iowa coin for example) and a picture of what they look like.

I hope this helps, and I hope to hear from someone soon. (please feel free to email or PM me!)

    ~Rose

  11. geopeitur301

I have added both of you to our Grand Experiment Forum, so you may have others in touch with you to send geocoins. We will need an address (place) to send them to, so don't be surprised.

Thanks for all of your help!

    ~Rose

  12. I want to thank everyone who has been working so hard on this project with me so far....looks like we have coins going to Australia, Finland, South America, Netherlands, United Kingdom, and across the USA.

All I can say is: WOW....all of you folks ROCK!

Hey Jaybee, You forgot about mine going to:

Portugal, Iraq, and Egypt. I think I also have a couple going to Mexico too! Now if I can just get someone from South America (Brazil, French Guyana, etc) to respond...

    ~Rose

  13. Our thoughts exactly.

We salute a fellow geocacher and Coin Quester and wish him God speed into the great beyond. (There must be caches in heaven, don't you think?)

It's not heaven if there aren't caches there, :) and in his case, motorcycles too.

The thoughts and prayers of those in Salt Lake City are with the family. I can't even imagine loosing my dad (the center of my world) at 13. I would be totally lost. **Sending hugs and kisses to the daughter** she will be changed forever, just like any kid would be.

    ~Rose

  14. Yep - that's how I was doing it too, but I figured that if I didn't "take" one, that would leave more for those for incentive to "start".

But you know.. Since you're having trouble getting "rid" of that GGA coin, well.. I figured... uh.. Ya.. I could help you out there.. he he he....

    :blink::tired:

Plus, if I launched another couple coins in the wild I wouldn't feel so bad about adding that *1* to my collection - especially since it's a little piece of "home". (for those of you who don't know, I grew up in Georgia...)

Also, I made a few posts to other "international" boards to have people come check out this thread - I figured if we do want to cover the world in coins, well.. we may need some assistance distributing.

    ~Rose

  15. Hi,

I'm sorry I must post this in English since I don't speak any of your beautiful languages, I hope you can forgive me.

In the meantime, I thought this might interest a few of you, but you'd need to jump over to a different thread.

  17. Thanks LadeBear68! I'll figure out another one to launch on your behalf. Where would you like it go go? Apparently, I now have contacts the world over willing to put coins in caches (yes, even NON-English speaking ones!).

Ask and Ye shall receive! (If anyone else needs people to send out to, and you want them going international - let me know - I might be willing to put you in touch with the appropriate parties and/or act as a go-between since some people don't feel comfortable posting here due to language difficulties.)

Also, for those of you whom want to see the coins I've released -

Check out the ones labeled "GRAND EXPERIMENT"

I think that should we discuss making a coin for this, the "theme" around the edge should be:

The Grand Experiment: Covering the world with coins "IN" caches!

How's that for a goal? Too Lofty?!?

  18. Still have the following:

    a. GGA 4th anniversary coin.

    b. A 2005 Washington coin.

    Hi,

I emailed re the GGA 4th anniversary coin.

(I know I know I said I wouldn't take any.. and if it's got a home already cool. If not, well.. I've been trying to trade for that one for MONTHS, and yes, I've even hit that eB*y place to try and get one!)

    ~Rose

  19. LadeBear68, I'd say it will depend on where you're sending it.

If the package is going to Europe, send something that is going to be less common in Europe (so not the EU coin). If you're sending to Middle East (as in my case) I decided not to send the Merry Christmas Geocoin (it would be rare, but it wouldn't fit since lots of people are Moslem and I'd be concerned with offending those that have Ramadan instead of Christmas.

Also, since I'm sending 3 to Iraq, I decided our soldiers would like to see something that is from "home" as in the state coins (I'm sending Alabama, North Carolina, and Iowa there).

So, when you figure out where you're sending them, you can pack and ship as appropriate. Also, for those shipping, my personal suggestion - Don't forget to include your sig item!

    ~Rose

  20. Ok I'm game.

I have the following to offer (one each) to those that need them:

    Not Another Micro! (2005)

    Kentucky Geocoin (2005)

    Opticsboy (2005)

And I'm offering the following 3 to be placed in caches:

    Alabama

    North Carolina

Christmas 2005 ornament coin (Winter Wonderland)

*Note that I'm activating all 3 of the above, and I hope to have them go international.  Since I haven't seen anyone saying theirs are going to South/Central America, how about it - GEOCACHERS headed to/in South/Central America - you want some coins to put in Caches?!?

Here's where I'm at y'all - two of the mentioned coins are spoken for by:

    UOTrackers

    Zsandman

So, I still have 1 available - the Opticsboy coin. EDIT: GONE NOW!

I have also found someone to distribute to Egypt, South Africa, Mexico, and Portugal. I may also have a couple going to Iraq for our troops there to discover (I emailed a few people stationed there). EDIT: WE HAVE 3 STATE COINS GOING TO IRAQ for our Service People Overseas!

    ~Rose

EDIT: PSST.. Jaybee, I think your idea is really going well!
