  1. After two attempts and misses at finding a CreepyCrawlyCachers coin, I found one today.

When I got home for a nice walk, I checked the map of CreepyCrawlyCachers coins. I noticed a another had been dropped thirty miles from me. I was quickly talked into going for it and off we went. It took a while as there was a lot of traffic. Finally arrive at the cache and open it to find the coin still there. Unfortunately I had forgotten my traders at home in my rush to get out the door. I'll go back in the next couple of days to leave a trade for it.

After another hour to get home, I pass the coin to my daughter so that she can enjoy it. No sooner do I do so and there is a earthquake (5.6 I looked). Definately a earthshaking moment.

    Thanks coin #160 CreepyCrawlyCachers

Congrats! Also felt the earthquake here as well.

  2. I had just gotten home from a family event, after putting gas in the car at $3.30/gallon!!!

I quickly checked my email (my wife thinks the computer is connected to me) and saw that the CCC had left a Geocoin close to my work. So glad I keep this cache on my watchlist.

Ran out the door, floored it towards the cache. Passed by the security guard as he was driving around the parking lot. As I got to the cache my heart was racing. I didnt want to miss my opportunity to get this cool coin.

As I pulled the cache out, I noticed a coin in the cache! Awesome! Pulled the coin, number 27, gold!

I had some of my personal geocoins in the car so I left it as a 'fair' trade for this geocoin.

The way I drove I probably ate up about 3 gallons of gas! I guess it is back to the bike for me next week.

    Thanks again for the Geocoin.

  3. Was also working on adding a flashing light for the nose. If I cant it would be glitter.

back would be santa's sleigh with "Happy Christmas to all! and to all a good night?

    Would add tracking somewhere?

Not to nit pick, but the picture you post looks a lot like:

So if you think anyone would steal your idea, maybe you should see who owns it first:

"The story is owned by The Rudolph Company, L.P."

  4. Yup, I think the problem is that you're asking retail value for a wholesale lot. But, heck, put it up on Ebay listing the entire collection and you might just find that one collector who's willing and able to bite.

I agree, Ebay would give you Fair Market Value.

If you do have some rare coins, I would suggest you just list all your coins on ebay. Start the price out at 0.01 since you need the money and would want to get as much as possible.

Good luck. If you have some coins you are missing, I will get some bids in.

  5. I realize that I'm in the minority here, but I'd like to cast my vote for GeocoinFest to *not* be on a holiday weekend. Such weekends are big family get-togethers for my wife's and my families. It's the major reason I've never been able to attend a Geowoodstock (typically held over Memorial Day Weekend).

I am going to have to agree with this. Avoiding Holiday Weekends works better for our family.

  6. How about traded but not sold?

The way I read it, as long as the coin is not sold, there is no payment required. I assume if you were to trade 1/2 the coins and later sell the rest on ebay or the forums, you might get a note about having to cough up the money since you broke the 'spirit' of the agreement presented.

    Two Notes:

    1) I am not a lawyer

    2) I am not involved anyway with the planning of the event. This just how I read it.

  7. I just filed a trademark on the word "GEOCOIN". Please do not use unless you pay me $1.00 per coin per transaction. :)

Yeah... Yeah.... That sounds like a good idea doesn't it? :)

BTW, while submitting my trademake I searched for GW and GWVI and there is no trademark relating to geo...opps almost said it "The Event that shall not be named" so Can I use that?

Personally, I really hope you dont try to file a trademark for the word 'geocoin'. If you do, I am sure there are a few people who would make sure that trademark never happens. You are just wasting your money since the term "Geocoin" has been in use for many years now. You are just wasting your money.

As for GeoWoodstock, you can find it here:

For coins which are SOLD, esp those which are sold at the event, what is wrong with Giving $1.00 back? This goes to support the event which allows the seller to be there to sell. I think this is more fair than what happened last year where people who didnt donate anything were given free tables to sell their GW Coins while giving nothing additional to those who donated to the event. I even know of one vendor who donated and didnt even get a table to sell.

  8. Wow what a scam here. The guy decides to trademark the name and he all the sudden gets a fee?

I dont see it as a scam. From what I read, the $1.00/coin goes towards the event. Put on a large event and you will quickly see your costs go up and up. Those of us that attend rarely see the costs of those putting on an event.

I have NO problem with the $1.00 fee going towards the event. I think it is fair and provides a good balance.

  9. I know Jo just recently had the Trademarked name transferred, but doesn't the above open him up for all kind of tax issues? Don't have a dog in the fight, but I don't think I would want that liability.

I am pretty sure that the money is going to the GWVI committee for GWVI. That being said, I think the fee for people selling geocoins is reasonable as the money goes to support the event. We have done a few events and I know of others doing events where the cost to do the event was high for the number of people. If this helps the event breakeven, I am ok with it.

Once again, I dont think the fee covers items like those Damenace brought up, small, trade only items. Of course, the best way would be for some clarification.

As for taxes, I have my own taxes to do :).

  10. When we first asked JoGPS about doing a GWVI coin, he told us we had to pay him $10,000.00. We explained that was too much and would increase the cost of a 250 coin run to $40/coin! He also explained that a non-trackable personal coin would cost $1000.00.

The current 'rules' seem more in line with what is reasonable. You can find them here: http://www.geowoodstockvi.com/News/article/sid=5.html

And from how I read it, free items, ie items not sold, will not be charged a fee:

For any product which will be given away for free, there is no licensing fee. Again, we do wish to be advised of all designs before they are manufactured.
  11. heck I'll even give out TWO candy bars per kid this year on Halloween if that is what it takes to keep this coin! ;)

I know where I am sending MY kids to go trick or treating! When growing up, word traveled fast which house would hand out full size butterfingers .

In your area stay away from Saratoga, they are miserly scrooges! ;)

Maybe I should take my kids to Los Altos, Los Gatos, Saratoga and Palo Alto .

I wonder what Steve Jobs hands out for Halloween, ipods anyone?

  12. Wow, what a nice coin.

Congrats to all those who got these coins so far.

There are some creepy caches in my area that would be perfect for that coin.

There is one called Evil Empire right close to me. Hopefully I can find one there so I dont have to drive as far!
