  1. Well I also can't wait to see how this works out.  I may do this with the LE Kansas because I think it would be so much easier for me to handle it.

Ugh, I hope you don't. The fees alone are going to make coins too pricey... extra 60 cents minimum in the price per coin is for ebay and that's if no special features are used like gallery, bold, etc.

Why would we want to add special features to a coin listing on that E place when the multiple pictures are already listed here, just one pic on the E listing to confirm it's the right item should be plenty since those going to buy should already know what they are getting. To pay for Galleries seems like overkill.

Listing fee is $.35 for 9.99 or less. Closing fee would be $.25... that's the $.60

If the coin is listed at $10, then the listing fee jumps to $.60 and the closing will still be $.25... that's $.85 more per coin to cover just the ebay fees.

Anything else used in the listing will increase the costs.

I think the only way to truely control inventory is to set up your own store like neilsenc or go with a vendor like thecachingplace.com

Since www.geoswag.com is a general store and not tied to any one product, we will be happy to host other products on our store.

For example, we are going to start carrying items from Groundspeak like Travel Bugs to make it a more one stop shopping.

If someone would like us to help out with inventory control, please contact me.

  2. I've never done a Dutch "Buy it Now" auction... does eBay give you the flexibility to restrict people to 2 coins and 3 coins, or are you using some other mechanism for that?

I don't see anyway to automatically restrict people from purchasing more that 2 or 3 coins. Mainly this is on the honor system. If that fails, anyone who purchases more than the allowed amount will have their entire purchase refunded which would probably result in them not getting ANY coins.

Can you do that with Ebay?

  3. I looked at it again, and I think it only goes back about 3 weeks. Of course, there might have been more expensive coins that arent shown.

The question is, what was the first *known* geocoin on ebay?

  4. Looking at Ebay, it is interesting to see which coins went for the most. Looking at non-charity auctions, the top 10:

    Moun10Bike V.1 $1025.00

    Migo Winter 2005 $231.00

    Cav Scout Raven $162.00

    2005 PA #1 Gold $150.00

    2005 PA #1 Bronze $137.00

    GC Ammo Can $80.00

    2005 Geoghost $78.00

    GeoWoodstock III $76.00

    2005 ND Winter $61.00

    2005 OH $61.00

    GeoWoodstock III $61.00

  5. I have only found 1 Geocoin in the wild to date. I was with another cacher as he picked one up. The other Geocoin I have on my page is my Brothers he gave to me to drop in Singapore.

I really want to see more geocoins in the wild. Of my personal ones, this one has moved the furthest:

    http://www.geocaching.com/track/details.aspx?id=212594

the one geocoin which has travled the most miles:

    http://www.geocaching.com/track/details.aspx?id=157166

I had this one travel 7000 miles just in the US:

So do I like trackable, yes. Is it worth it? Lets see after a year and hoe many are still moving!

  6. The Georgia coin sold for a high price on ebay before most people have them in hand. Once the coins are sent out, and more people put them on ebay, the price will drop.

Same thing with the San Diego Geocoin:

    http://cgi.ebay.com/San-Diego-GeoCoin-Pin-...1QQcmdZViewItem

Since there were 1000 made, I am sure the first few to be sold on ebay will go for $50 or so. Once the 'masses' have them in hand, the price will drop to a 'reasonable' level.

Look back at old ebay auctions to see this in action.

  7. How about these GCC coins:

    Selective Availability (each color)

    Benchmark

    Ammo Can

And also the Compass Rose, 2005 USA, and each of the Seven Summits coins.

    Anyone?

    Seven Summits are posted.

I would also like to see the GCC numbers before I start bidding $50 on a benchmark coin.

  8. Didn't you read the fine print of the gba coin club? If you mint a personal geocoin, you have to give one to every coin club member.

    --Marky

"First rule of coin club - you do not talk about coin club."

P.S. We'll trade you one of ours when it gets finished.

I thought that was only if you used www.thegba.net on your coin :)!

  9. What about the prices for the pins? It says:

The Pins are our standard issue and will have them available during 2006. We are offering a discount of $1.49 for each pin until December 1st. After that, the price will rise to $1.99 w/quantities of 5 or more.

When I want to order pins now it shows the price $1.99 for each pin. Did I get anything wrong or isn't that the price without discount from December 1st and later? Maybe someone could help me to understand this.

    Thanks, Heidi

More than 5 = 1.49 each. We wanted people to see the pins as we think they are great! On December 1st, the price goes to our normal price of 2.49 and 1.99.

On the FTF coins, we only minted 100. But, there were a few double orders so we put the double orders back into inventory.

You know if you had a double order, you pay for one order and you get two invoices. This is a bug with the software but we confirm each order before we send it.

This, imho, is better than having more orders than product.

  10. Not to sound like a jerk, but this wont be a repeat of the peach, right? I don't want to waste my time buying a gold coin only to have another 130 minted. Advertising ahead of time like this is just going to make your ordering page get nailed hard, so I hope you've figured out what went wrong last time and know how to avoid it this time around. :mmraspberry:

Let me tell you... that was pretty dadgum stressful today because I was thinking about that same deal. Paypal needs a way to set up quantity limits so they stop orders automatically. Imagine sitting there refreshing the account page and trying to figure out how many are being sold as fast as you can. Has anybody figured out a better way to do this?

Who knew this would be so exciting. Can't wait to try this from the other side of the table. See you Sunday morning!

They do have it, its called EBAY. You can do a buy it now with a limit on the number of coins. Of course, you pay an extra 50 cents or so for each coin but at least you know that the inventory control works. :drama:

  11. For us, we went away from setting a time when orders will open. Seems like Paypal has a hard time with a lot of orders from one site at one time anyways .

So, we went out, paid for hosting which includes inventory tracking and when we are ready, send an email out to those who requested to purchase. Knowing that everyone isnt on email all the time, this would allow orders to come in over the next few hours. We also keep the link private for about 24 hours and limit the number to make sure all those who requested for a coin, has a chance to get one.

I dont know if this is the best way, but it seems to have worked ok for us.

  12. Pretty cool Thrasher22!

How do you capture the page like that? I have tried, and it never works!

    As to the other questions:

Yes, we have about 50 coins left. Send me an email so I can send you a PayPal invoice.

    Dave

Press ALT Print Screen to capture the active window. After that, you can always edit the file.

  13. One of the reasons we added 'serial' numbers to our coins was to make sure people knew that we couldnt go out and make another batch of coins. The only coin where this didnt happen was with our NAM! custom shaped coin. On 100 of them, we replaced the number with 'FTF' so people could use them as 'FTF' gifts. (They fit perfectly into a film canister :). For our next series, we will change it a little to make the FTF have a serial number as well. Even though having two separate numbers on the coins, one as a serial and one for tracking, we hope it gives people peace of mind.

  14. Starting with our Mt Everest coin, we no longer do pre-orders. With our first coin, we waited and waited and had delays from the original middle man. To make sure people dont wonder where their coins are, going forward, we only post them to our site after we have confirmation they are on the way. That gives us a day or two to get ready for the orders.

If they dont sell out, we take the hit. This, IMHO, is the best way keep Customer Service high.
