  1. I am new to using GSAK but have become very frustrated. We use PQ's to populate our Garmin with caches. But when I go to remove them from the Garmin they are buried in a GPX file which has many caches I do not want to delete. Is there a way to remove the PQ's in some manner I have not considered? I have called the Garmin customer service area-they are great , but so far, no great answers. :(

  2. Hi tomnina,

The other posters are correct that the new Challenges can be easily confused with Challenge caches.

You may want to visit My Geocaching Profile, which does have A DeLorme GeoAchievement badge that rewards cachers for completing DeLorme challenge caches. Then you can cut and paste the html and put it on your profile page along with any other stats that you may be interested in. We like the average word count of Found It logs.

    Enjoy your geocaching adventures!

    Hi mwellman,

Thx so much for your insightful response. All this Challenge verbiage does get confusing. You cut through it nicely. I will take your advice and do some cut and pasting.

    Thanks again,

  3. Congratulations on completing both Challenges! B)

However, it sounds as if you're getting confused over the various recent features on the site. Currently there is no awarding of Souvenirs for the various Delorme Challenges out there. For a list of current Souvenir's, see the following link:

The much talked about Challenge feature on the site, which was released this week, does not have the capability of setting up a complex Challenge like a Delorme or County type Challenge. At this time, the types of Challenges available are merely Picture Challenges, and Action Challenges. For further clarification on the Challenge feature, here is some additional reading:

I'm afraid that the only indication of having completed the two Challenges that you mentioned, will be an increase in you Unknown/Puzzle Find count in your Stats.

On my profile page is a box labeled "Challenges Completed" with a count of zero. I do not want a souvenir, I would want a number in the box which reflects how many challenges we have completed. Does that make sense? Othewise why have a "Challenges" box?

  5. In April of this year we completed the NJ Delorme Challenge. But our statistics page on Geocaching.com says we have completed zero. Is there a way to let the correct officials know about the completion? We have also completed the Windham County, Vermont challenge. Do county challenges count?

  6. Thanks to all for your responses, we appreciate it. Here's the question(s). When will the Beta maps replace the old maps completely? Will the Beta maps ever have the capability to add numbers to the caches ( a very handy capability) ? And finally, do the programmers at Groundspeak ever pay attention to these posts as a way to improve the product???

  7. I usually print out numbered maps, too (using the old "original" maps, not the Beta maps--there's a link to the old maps on the Beta map page).

I just tried it for the three caches I intend to get tomorrow. While all three caches show up just fine on the actual map, the list of cache names (which used to print to the right of the map, but now print underneath the map) only has one of the three caches listed. So we've lost our numbered "lists," but the map itself prints ok. In fact, the map itself prints larger (wider) than it used to, which I kind of like (before the update, any caches on the far right side of the map (showing on the computer screen) were cut off the printed version (or at least on my WindowsXP/printer combination they were).

I'm just going to hand write the numbered list on there and call it good. If they do delete the old "original" maps, then I'll have to figure out how to do a screenshot or something because the Beta maps don't print right at all. Not a problem until/unless they take away the old maps.

For three caches, I would just draw a map. And like you I would just pen it in. In the field I can use the map in the PN-40 also. You can get a "snipping tool" for XP as well. [which is a better screen shot tool..google it]

  8. Before the "upgrade" we could select a map, number the caches on the map, print the map and the accompanying caches and we would use the map and the listed caches as our guide for finding the listed caches. With the new version we can print the map but some of the caches in a printed , i.e., listed form do not print. Example, we print a map with 8 caches, but on the text only 6 caches appear. I hope this helps. We have used pocket queries many times but we have also used a map and printed the map with caches many times. Now we cannot.

  9. When we try to print a map of our desired caches the map prints but the caches, which we number, are incomplete. This never happened in the old version. Is this happening to anyone else? Have you solved the problem? thanks!

Define incomplete? I'm not sure I understand.

  11. We are trying to create a PQ for a route and print the map showing the caches as well as printing the caches for the route in the PQ IN ORDER . In other words we would like to go from point A to B with a map showing the caches along the route and a list of caches, in order, beginning at point A and going to point B. Is this possible? You can respond to tomsingleton@thefinalimage.net if it is helpful.

  12. Clearly the Oregon 550 is the best, because that is the one I chose to buy and any the validity of benefits claimed by any other unit would make me feel like I didn't make the right choice. This admission would affect my psyche far too greatly, so without trying the 60 or even touching it, I shall say it sucks, and the extra 250 dollars I spent was well worth it. Case closed lalalalalalalalalalal...

As an aside, I must say I am SHOCKED that the Wherigo aficionado is promoting the 60 CX over the Oregon.

LMAO. Probably the best forum post I have read in.........minutes.

I love my Oregon for caching. The paperless feature is great. And yes, I am a big supporter of Wherigo.

BUT, when the chips are down and the conditions are poor , the 60 is still my unit of choice. It is 100% reliable. A lot easier on batteries which is a significant issue if you are going into the bush with everything you need for 8 or 10 hours of searching.

    As I said above, IMHO.

  13. Hi Guys.I have a Garmin 60CSx

Im putting some geocaches onto my GPS

I find the cache I want. and click the tab that says,, send to GPS.a small window

opens and it says write. I click that and it goes to my GPS. that works

BUT the Cache Number shows up on the GPS Not the Name. anyway to change that

    so the name comes up?

    Thanks

    Dale

Use EasyGPS and set it up so it gives you the hint and name instead of GC number. Once installed, click the tab and it should give you a choice of downloading to EasyGPS. When you get it in EasyGPS send it to your GPS. If you're not a premium member I don't think you'll get the hint but you should end up with the name instead of the GC number
