I've been asking the same sort of question here I guess seeing the log on that GC that says; Guidelines: "As the cache owner, you are also responsible for physically checking your cache periodically, and especially when someone reports a problem with the cache (missing, damaged, wet, etc.). You may temporarily disable your cache to let others know not to hunt for it until you have a chance to fix the problem. This feature is to allow you a reasonable time - normally a few weeks - in which to arrange a visit to your cache. In the event that a cache is not being properly maintained, or has been temporarily disabled for an extended period of time, we may archive the listing." and the cache I'm thinking off has been awaiting maintenance for 7 months I should just get to over and done with and log a Needs Archiving, At least then I can replace it. The cache in my case is GC23GNQ. Cheers, Rob.

Hmm, I can only adopt a cache if I've been asked to. The CO hasn't replied to my email (sent a few weeks ago) so I'm assuming they won't be inviting me any time soon It's marked as needs maintenance already and the CO added the note "Will re-place in new location nearby ASAP" but that was back in April. I don;t want to upset the CO by logging a NA so maybe I should email them again? Cheers, Rob

Thanks for the advice everyone. I love my Line 7 walking boots as they are really well broken in so i'll probably try the Gaiters for now - I suspect they'll be the cheapest option too. Can you get noise free ones (i.e. ones that don't go swish-swish-swish as you walk) ? BTW, my wife will love the Cotton Traders fur lined boots, Cheers, Rob.

Anyone know of a good hybrid boot that I can wipe clean like a wellie but with the support of a walking boot? We spent 4 hours caching yesterday and the only thing that stopped us in the end was my knee. Never have this problem in walking boots but so many of the footpaths and byways are quagmires at the moment that I really needed the wellies. Anyone got a good hybrid they would recommend? Cheers, Rob

I love getting out in the countryside with my kids. The cache means they don't realise they are getting fresh air and exercise it's just a nice by product of looking for the cache. They also go a lot further than they would otherwise. I also love the fact that i'm starting to get the hang of thinking like a hider. What i mean by that is that i'm finding it easier to imagine where the cache will be once I get to GZ.

I quite enjoyed the 5 caches at National Trust Wicken Fen. It's just North of Cambridge.

jammie*dodger replied to TitchTori's topic in GPS technology and devices
Quite possibly. I've been wrong before - plenty of times -
Very small event question
jammie*dodger replied to Scrumpy & Son's topic in United Kingdom and Ireland
Even if it's not allowed any chance you can email me some details about the weekend you run? Sounds like the sort of thing I'd like to come to. Cheers, Rob. -
Techo-biff and can't use my Satmap
jammie*dodger replied to TitchTori's topic in GPS technology and devices
I wonder if you can help me, I use a Satmap active 10 and download cache pages as .gpx files using satsync. How come when I hover the curser over some of the cache icons ( look like parcels) and I press the joystick the "web page" will appear last 5 logs and the hint. and when I hover over other "parcels" and press the joystick I dont get the "web page" displayed? I can always access the "web page" using the POI files but some times it can be difficult to determine which file is ascosciated with which icon(parcel) I found your user name from the forums after you gave another user some advice about setting the gps to degrees and dec mins, I spoke to the guys at Satmap and he struggled to understand my problem When you downloaded the gpx did you specifiy v1.0 or v1.01? You''ll need to specify v1.01 to get the whole of the cache info. Rob. -
Anyone get gpx file sent to googlemail?
jammie*dodger replied to jammie*dodger's topic in How do I...?
Ah, thanks, i'd asked for it be done on Friday - as it would then be ready for the weekend. I've changed the day and it looks like it;s done it now. Cheers, Rob. -
Explain why did you choose your Users Name/Geocaching name
jammie*dodger replied to DisneyXtreme's topic in How do I...?
Mine is from the days when I started riding a motorcycle to work in order to dodge the traffic jams. I joined a number of bike related forums back then and the fact that the Jammie Dodger is my favourite biscuit was a bonus. -
I've just upgraded to Premium membership and generated my first pocket query. Hasn't appeared in my googlemail inbox yet though. Does anyone else get them sent to a googlemail account and if so how long does it take to appear? Cheers, Rob.

I have never shipped to the UK, but I guess I could. I used FedEX to calculate the shipping and it came up with $84 US. If your still interested let me know. Mark Bit rich for me, but thanks for considering it. Cheers, Rob.

iphone geocaching app
jammie*dodger replied to BurgeoGull & MrsGull's topic in GPS technology and devices
Yep, happened to me again yesterday. Logs then successfully updated once I got home. I honestly don't hink they will be able to fix it - it's probably a limitation of your connectivity at the time. -
If you have alicensed copy of windows you can use Parallels to run a windows Vm from within your MAC.
-
Would you ship to the UK? If so can you tell me how much it would be to ship? Thanks, Rob.

What to do if cache coordinates are wrong?
jammie*dodger replied to jammie*dodger's topic in United Kingdom and Ireland
If the comments I have read are correct then it's not as bad as 528ft. Still makes the task more difficult than it needs to be. I'll go back next weekend and see if the commented ones are better and then get in touch with the CO if needs be. Thanks, Rob. -
Is it possible to flag a cache as having incorrect coordinates? Looks like one I looked for today is wrong. Only noticed the previous logs saying this after I got home or I'd have known to correct them and possibly stood a better chance of finding the cache. Obviously they'd need to be double checked but is there a mechanism for a reviewer to change details of a cache if the owner hasn't? Cheers, Rob

Thinking of setting up a Geocache
jammie*dodger replied to jammie*dodger's topic in United Kingdom and Ireland
I wondered this - I added quite a few entries on my Iphone and uploaded as a log - I even attached pictures but a lot of my logs just say "Sent from my mobile device". Is this a bug with the groundpseak app? Has anyone else had this problem? Cheers, Rob. EDIT : I have now gone back and updated any entries that haven't synched up properly by hand - think i got all the details correct -

Probably more fun than the company coins. I think I'll take the advice given and leave the hiding alone for now. Having far too much fun finding to want to get in too deep. Thanks for the advice, Rob. -

Hmmm. Yes, that TeamA1 link seems to have gone. Did you read the link to the Knowledge books? Creating trackable geocoins. MrsB Thanks I did have a look at that and it answered a lot of questions. Does anyone have any experience of any of the companies that mint geocoins - especially in the UK? -

And I think you don't. anyone volunteer to help me out? Clearly it requires some serious skills. EDIT : Maybe it would be a better idea to just produce some geocoins which could be placed in caches local to us and we could then track their progress?
