Tell me what you think about this idea. I want to create a challenge where you have to go down a section of river in a canoe or kayak...it's a long section it's probably 20 miles as the crow flies from where you put in to where you get out. It's not a straight river! So I would estimate 30 miles at least.
That in it-self is a challenge...as I am no expert, but I think this would take a weekend to complete, but I was thinking of having who ever accepts it place a cache out there as well...to much? I do not expect alot of people to do this challenge, primary the locals with the kayaks and canoes, and they place water caches. good/bad idea? Maybe make it a "bonus" of the challenge?

Ok those are good points

GOF, you are right, just not my cup of tea...but it doesn't mean its not a good challenge, just one I wouldn't thumb up, but I didn't thumb it down. Now if you make me have to kiss a frog, then I'll thumb it down lol
-
Mine involves hiking a 3 mile portion of the Palmetto Trail, and find the 6 geocaches along the trail, it is not as easy as it sounds, some of the caches are tough hides, I couldn't even take credit for this challenge as I have only found 4 of the 6 lol. I don't think its a bad challenge

thanks for all the info guys. Here is a link to the map that I installed. Maybe I was confused and did something wrong. Not sure, I do know that I am not looking at a gray screen anymore, and the canoe trail I went on saturday almost perfectly matched the route I went on...

I've created two challenges, that I think they are great, although one has almost as many thumbs down as thumbs up, can anyone give me feedback on why this would be thumbed down?
We can't search for the Challenges you've created and we don't know what they are. If you can provide a link maybe people will give their opinions.
MrsB
MrsB....i think thealabamarambler answered my question, as I created a thread to Show your quality challenges, and mine is the first one. lol...you can find both of mine in that thread....I was thinking cache, not challenge when I posted this, and I find myself spelling out cache for challenge as well alot

GOF and Bacall gave me a great idea for a challenge. I love this place! I made the requirements in such a way that people with physical disablities can get credit by getting on the hanger deck and getting a photograph. (which is wheel chair accessible by elevator) The carrier is really cool place to explore, I think it makes a great challenge.

GOF and Bacall...I really like 3 of 4 of your challenges, I honestly don't care for the kite one, but it still gets you outside, to a great area, so I didn't thumb it down....but gave thumbs up to the other three...and I got a great challenge idea...thanks.

My first challenge:
CX10C - Complete a Multi-Day Hike on the WUBT
Which is based on a geocaching activity that I recently completed - a 6 day hike in the woods.
The Western Uplands Backpacking Trail is located within an Ontario Provincial Park, where physical caches have been banned since 2003 (with one or two exceptions).
This IMHO is what the challenges are all about.

i did my part and flagged him as well lol

I am absolutely sick thinking how this cheapens the "finds" as it has nothing to do with geocaching. I predict that we will see numbers 1000x greater than the greatest power trail numbers by cachers with a mere day or two of "experience" At the VERY least this should be done on another site. If I had my way the real challenge would be to remove every trace of this idea now and forever!
I don't understand the "cheapens the finds" concept.
My find count means something to me because I know what went into them. Others' find counts, except for a few close friends, means absolutely nothing to me and no one's counts affects me or how I play the game in any way whatsoever.
If someone wants to rack up a ridiculous number with what I would consider questionable finds, that's a battle between them and their conscience. It really makes no difference to me. This is not a competition. When it comes right down to it this is an individual activity and the individual has decide for themselves by what standards they will participate.
As for these challenges, I may or may not do those that require no outdoor activity or location-based quest. I've not decided yet. But no matter which way I decide for myself, just how does that affect anyone else? The answer is simple. It doesn't.
I couldn't agree more.

the Long Throw one seems cool.

My first accepted challenge. I love this thread!
I accepted also Ike, thanks!

Deb3day, I'm sure they will fix it, they posted in the release notes that items still need to be fixed and updated. All lets please keep this to great challenges.
I like the ones I have seen so far on here, and thumbs up all of them!

Without getting into any arguements over challenges. Post up what you think is a challenge worth completing, One you enjoyed completely, one that requires you to get out of the house. Please limit your posts to only what I ask. There are other threads for that. I will start with one, that I just created. One I feel is worthy of being a challenge.

i take back what I said when we were speculating, when I said challenges would be pointless unless they counted to your find count. When I said that, I thought they would actually make you go hike or do something that required a GPSr. the challenges been posted are crap and pointless. I have turned into the challenge police and thumbing down every challenge that you dont have to leave the house for....hopefully the thumbing down will get rid of them.

My first Challenge: CX3A
http://www.geocaching.com/challenges/view.aspx?cx=CX3A
You will have to climb the highest point in Texas, Guadalupe Peak, and take a photo with the stainless steal pyramid at the summit.
Now this is what I consider a challenge, not hugging someone, or kissing a frog.

So far what I like the most about challenges is the vote down button

without even reading any of the posts, I want to get IBTL or move to OT LOL

Playground caches are fun for people like us with kids. I have a puzzle cache that starts at a playground. I tell people right on the cache page that early morning or evneing might make them more comfortable as it's at a playground. If they still are not comfortable, there's lots of other caches to find, right?
Again, it's not a question of me being comfortable finding a cache at a playground. My issue with these placements is that I believe, as a parent who takes her child to playgrounds, that playgrounds should remain a comfortable place for the parents and children who visit them.
So since I am a 35 year old male, from this comment, I should not be allowed to go to a park (that's generally where playgrounds are) by myself, a park that my tax dollars paid for. If you are so worried that every male over 30 is some kind of child molester, then perhaps you shouldn't allow your children to go to the playground with out adult supervision, and if the children are adult supervised, what kind of crazy man is going to take your child away with you right there with them? Come on. Maybe I want to go to the playground, because its my lunch break from work, and its quiet and shaded and a good place to relax and read a book.

I really wonder if there should be a minimum number of finds before someone can place a cache. I was looking for one today which:
Number of finds is not a good metric for experience. Not all of us log our finds.
Log your finds.
Why?
Why not?
EDIT: nevermind read the post above this one LOL..GSAK, got it.

I don't hike as much as I like too, most places near where I live are small state forests or state parks, where you generally around someone all the time, or close to your car or close to some type of civilization. So on those trips I just take a camel pak, extra gps batteries, a energy bar or two, a zipper compass, a 2 AA Mag-lite, tweezers, a extra pen....if its less then a mile I just take a pen and my gps lol.
Now I've only been on one real true hike, it was near Las Vegas, called Red Rock, it was a 5 mile round trip hike with 2300ft elevation gain to one of the peaks in the park. I did it solo, I had the ten essentials. I learned that even though it was in the 80 degree range, the 2 liters of water in my pak was not enough, I ran out half way back down the mountian, I also learned that trekking poles are useless when bouldering and scrambling, and ALWAYS cut your toe-nails before you go on any sort of hike! Probably the smartiest thing I did was tell my wife which trail head I started on, and when I expected to be back to the car...nothing happened.
I LOVE Challenges!

I have to agree with you guys about my challenge I asked about, I agree, it's not what a challenge should be. Now maybe if it was just "hike this section of trail and take a picture at the coords" instead of "finding all the caches". To bad I can't archive it since it has people who have accepted it.
