I guess I am a suspicious muggle. I have a cache hidden in my front yard. I state on the cache page that it is my property and cachers have my permission to search. I also ask if they see me out to stop and say Hello. Most cachers hunting it act odd and try not to be seen. I have started to walk toward a couple of groups and had them depart quickly. Only one has ever walked over to me to say hello when I was outside. If the cache page lets you know cachers are expected to show up once in a while either wave at anyone around or just say Hello to them.

    Please archive your yard cache.

There is nothing more creepy than a cache in someone's front yard. I'll not even consider doing it and sort of get ticked off when I get to GZ and realise what it is.

There is a reason people run away when they see you, despite the cache page welcoming them. They don't know you, they don't know the cache page is legit, and they don't know your not some perv trying to lure people to his house to then throw in a well 'Silence of the Lambs' style.

Yard caches......gives me shudders just thinking about them.

    Agreed +1

  2. anyone can get ammocans,

they are cheap, or even free, good, stable, air and water tight,

and will last many years as a geocache container.

in my contry ammo cans are not considered important to recycle,

their cost is the same as the cost to send them back,

so millitary related people can take them home

and use them and even give them to civilian friends.

BUT there is one rule, the military markings, often seen as stickers or orange or yellow paint,

must be covered by paint or removed before used as a geocache container for example.

mate black spray paint works great, add a nice harder to find camoflage to it too..

and then add a sticker in a dark colour FRIENDLY GEOCACHE GAME DO NOT REMOVE

want to play along, see geocaching.com

place this text on the OUTSIDE of the box..

    Who's rule?

  3. Why does a cache get archived just because it was blown up?

I've never been a Reviewer, but I did stay at a Holiday Inn once. So...

I feel like this qoute needs to go in my signature too :laughing::laughing:

but I already have one from you, so I dont want to look like a forum stalker. lol

some of the stuff you say really cracks me up, thanks for the laugh

  4. The most extreme caches - by far - I know of are http://coord.info/GC2WGV2 and http://coord.info/GC2WGTQ

There seems to be a fine line between "Extreme" caches that a good portion of the geocaching population could find if so inclined and with a fair amount effort and a cache so difficult that it becomes almost a novelty that feels like "I'm going to create a cache that almost nobody will be able to find." A cache located at a spot that requires a long and arduous hike at high elevation might take someone that isn't in the best physical condition a long time to get to (perhaps requiring camping several nights) but it would eventually be doable. There are probably not too many caches that will be able to find a cache located at the bottom of the ocean or on the ISS. The two listed above approach the novelty level rather than something that is just "extreme".

I would have to agree with you.

  5. astounds me that a certain cache has not been archived, despite being hidden among live wires,

So have you contacted the property owner of this dangerous cache so they can contact Goundspeak and have the listing removed for lack of proper permission?

Have you contacted the local code enforcement agency and pointed out the dangerous situation this cache represents so they can get this hazard isolated from the public?

Annoying world-wide assortment forum readers who can do nothing to remedy the situation in your local area seems rather counter-productive.

    Its in Canada.

If the property owner is made aware of it, they will not be very happy. Any official that finds out may want to create excessive regulations regarding caches.

I contacted a lackey about it with no response, as I suspect there are plenty like it. I would armchair NA it, but I only do that for german caches. :P

Perhaps I could call the local police with an untraceable service such as Skype, and mention suspicious packages in public places among wires?

Or you could just drop it, not find any LPC or electrical box caches, and leave the rest of us to find the dangerous caches.

  6.

If you are going to be in that area, try this cache. Its northwest of there.

I never climbed it but its really cool in the summer. Can be cold at night in the summer. http://coord.info/GC5CE3

Another mt near by is: http://coord.info/GC1QWR3

I was camping in this area last summer and was aware of those caches but I was with a girl that wasnt outdoor type at all, so I didnt do it.

Oh yes, I remember seeing Turtlehead when I was doing this cache. http://coord.info/GC18FMD

If I ever get the oppertunity to head back out that way those caches are difinately possible!!!

  7. I don't think blame needs to be assigned to anyone. One man's trash is another man's treasure. Some people love parking lots, some don't. Some love a 10 mile hike, some don't. Some love puzzles, others despise them. Some love nanos, others demand ammo cans. And some are even willing to tie themselves to a rope and throw themselves off the side of a cliff for a smiley. Not me.

I couldn't agree with this more, although, I would go off a side of a cliff with rope to find a cache, and I will find nano's in parking lots, or ammo cans on 10 mile hikes. I like to see the smiley on the map. =P

I really prefer the fun hikes or 4wd drives or any out-doorsie, but I have this uncontrollable urge to find every cache around me, first was 5 mile radius, then 10 mile radius, now Im in a 20 mile radius...although there is some I still haven't found in my shorter radius's lol

  8. In the past unless I was going deep into the woods, I would only carry a walking stick and a small pepper spray canister, probably enough to just irritate a normal person. This past summer I went on a hike and ended up having a bear follow me for about 20 minutes about 30-40 yards behind me. It was literally the most terrifying situation I have ever encountered. It was only me and my 4 month old puppy and about 12 miles away from any civilization. The trail was a little more than I expected. The division of Wildlife officer I later talked to said he would have been very concerned if it was him up there and that the area was known to be very thick with bears. From that day on I now carry my Beretta 96FS .40 Cal pretty much every time I go out. I also purchased a canister of bear spray as well. I used to go out and hike all over creation without another thought, since that incident to be honest I am still a little Leary to go into some locales. If I know I'm going somewhere there are a lot of people or a national park I only carry the mega can of bear spray. ANY where else I go I make sure to strap on my .40. My state is an open carry state so I can carry it open any where I go, even down main street I just can't go within X amount of feet of schools or government buildings. I do wonder what other people think when they happen upon me and notice my pistol on my belt but frankly, I don't really care.

Most people you meet on the trail or out caching are good people, there are exceptions though. In my neck of the woods we have bears, mountain lions, bobcats, coyotes and snakes, pretty much every North American Predator except wolves, so the added protection is a welcome addition to my gear and that's the main reason I carry. If you decide to carry you need to be sure to be very comfortable with the weapon you have and practice, practice, practice, even take some classes.

    That's my $.87

I'm having a hard time finding a comfortable, yet accessable place to carry, the last hike I went on was a 10 mile day trip, Hikes over 5 miles I generally carry what I need to stay a night if I have too, this last trip I had it in a pocket holster in my front hiking pants pocket, wasn't very comfortable. Not sure where else to carry it, since I have a pack on. It wasn't too uncomfortable, but I knew it was there lol. easy to to get too if needed as well

  9. If they were to get rid of PMO only caches, I would stop hiding caches, the majority of my hides have unique containers, I have a LPC with 4 favorites...not bad for a LPC...lol. and there is no way I would make my multi a non PMO cache. I do not want my caches muggled by someone who has nothing better to do but go around taking caches. Just like I will try my best to put coins I find into PMO caches (not sure if it helps) but i do that to lessen the chance of a muggle.
