  1. I posted a topic yesterday on this ACRES subject in the General Fourm area....wished I would have noticed this thread as I would have saved the time and just joined along in this discussion. Here is the topic in the other area: ACRES topic Link
  2. 1998 Honda Accord 4d grocery getter! 30mpg and easy to get around! Currently looking to replace a 15mpg full size truck with something 40mpg + ..... sure wish Domestic had some options for us .... but its looking like a Civic.
  3. http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...ed-e318bcb829fa Only one that shows on Google Earth in the City, says its temp disabled, but back up in mid Sept. There are 6 or so others on the barrier islands to the east up and down the coast too.
  4. I guess we must do it a way we don't see talked about much. We use a Z22 with MobiPocket installed on it. We download the .loc and the .pdb file from GC.com. All we do to get the cache info loaded into the Palm is hotzync the .pdb file to it and open it with MobiPocket. That free program has an Index of all the caches with hotlinks to the details, also indexs for the hints and searching ability. The .loc file we use in Mapsource to plot a path of travel to get to the caches and also to upload the waypoints to the GPSr. Thats how we do it and the Palm software was free and has done everything we could ask with full details, just like you were looking at the page on the web (without pictures). It took me a bit of searching to find the mobipocket.prc file for the Plam, as all I kept finding was the full program for the pc. I have that file and will email it to anyone who wants it!
  5. Quote: It is all very disappointing any way you look at it. Unfortuantely, were are still grouped with the list of "undesireable users" with respect to DNR division of nature preserves and most of the other Land Trusts that administer their own nature preserves. ------------------------------------------------------------------ We agree entirely with your concern over all of us being grouped as "undersieable users". After all, my wife and I just got done building new sign-in in boxes and birdhouses for the aformentioned group as volunteers. Gosh knows what we would have been able to accomplish had we been respectable users! Their policy is their policy and as you mentioned it is worth noting they still allow them, but call us old fashioned in our thinking when we think either it should be either free or nothing, and lets leave the 21st century capitolism for some other sport or next thing you know we will be getting out our wallets for the city parks as well!
  6. On the other hand, if the money goes to manage the preserve, what's the harm? How is this different than those parks who charge a fee to everyone who goes to seek a cache? Our concern is where will this lead in what is currently and what should be kept a free sport? As for the State Parks and such that charge entry fees, we do not place caches in them. We only will hunt caches in those when we are there camping and have paid the park fees for that purpose. We will not put a cache where seekers will be charged any fees to find them.
  7. We have an organizion (ACRES) that runs/manages Nature Preserves here in NE Indiana. We placed a Multi back in March and just received an email from a Geocaching User that is actually a rep for the ACRES organization. Informed us that it will cost us a $25 membership fee plus a $10 Cache Placement fee to keep the cache on the property per year. We really are disgusted at this, as the ENTIRE idea behind this sport it to keep it free and not for profit! We dont pay a thing to keep an account at geocaching.com UNLESS we want the features of upgraded membership. In our opinions, it would be better for them (ACRES) to just prohibit caches on their properties and not try to fund their goals off of what has been and will continue to be a free sport for the entire family worldwide! As you have guessed, we archived our cache and will place it in a more deserving location. Has any other of you folks ran into this type of fee request in your own travels? Just a bit of info for those out there to keep in mind in the event you are considering donateing to or partronizing any of the ACRES properties. Candyman & PussyKat Fort Wayne, Indiana
  8. We have a Z22 and have found it will do all we need and ALOT more we dont need. You can download and snyc Mobipocket to it and then it will read any ebook sent to you, such as the pocket querys. Also it comes with the intall CD that has its own Palm Ereader that you can also installl....it does not do well with the ebooks from the pocket querys, so you will need to get the mobipocket.prc file to install. If you need that .prc file let me know, I have is stored here on the HD and can email it to you, it took me some searching to find it on the web. We love the Z22 and would buy another in a heartbeat. Don't buy the sales crap thrown at you from the punks behind the counter looking for their commsions! Cache on!'
