  1. http://www8.garmin.com/support/download_details.jsp?id=4995 Changes made from version 2.60 to 2.70: * Added support for Chirp™. * Fixed problem with certain custom maps. * Fixed problem with certain JPEG images. * Fixed issue with Sight 'N Go and user north reference.
  2. Workaround for testing ENELOOP and other low self-dicharge NiMH batterys (LSD-NiMH): Diagnostic Menu: Press ENTER-key during powering on the gpsmap 62s and then you get information about VBAT (Voltage Battery): VBATT for ENELOOP 3,03 - 100%-Battery 2,76 - 90%-Battery 2,65 - 80%-Battery 2,63 - 70%-Battery 2,61 - 60%-Battery 2,60 - 50%-Battery 2,59 - 40%-Battery 2,55 - 30%-Battery 2,51 - 20%-Battery 2,46 - 10%-Battery I still hope that Garmin will improve the batteryindicator AND insert the VBATT-filed into the tripcomputerpage and mappage (as an optional field to display)
  3. On using the gpsmap 62s, you will have 4 bars for a very long time. BUT having 3 bars, the unit powers down after 90 minutes (using ENELOOP-batteries) The gpsmap 60 csx has a much better batterie management and shows continous 4-3-2-1 bars. So using a a gpsmap 62s you might start in the mornig with 4 bars, and 2 hours later the batteries might be emty. You cannot controll, if the batterie is fine with 4 bars. CHART I asked garmin.com about this bug and they told me: The quick reading to discharge that you are seeing sounds very familiar to Lithium batteries. I would suggest running on that setting to see if you get a better battery indicator. We do not have settings on the unit for Energizer, or Duracel and highly doubt that one would be made for a specific battery. It is always best to have a idea of how long you have been using a set of batteries.
  4. ATTENTION!! In China you can order a gpsmap62s which looks like identical to the Garmin GPSMAP62s It only costs 89,-Dollar and has all features. But it is easy to check out if it is the original GARMIN or not. - the original squeaks (the chinese unit does NOT have this function)
  5. ENELOOP in GARMIN GPSMAP 62s after some hours: Setup Nimh: 3 bars XXX The same ENELOOP in a GARMIN VISTA HCX: Setp Nimh: 1 bars X Garmin changed the batteryindicator levels compared to the vista hcx. Using ENELOOP in the gpsmap62s and having 3 bars, you only have 90 minutes left Can anyone confirm this bug?
  6. The curious thing on using ENELOOP is: ENELOOP (after used for some hours) in GARMIN VISTA HCX: Setup Alkaline: 2 bars XX Setp Nimh: 1 bars X The same ENELOOP in GARMIN GPSMAP 62s: Setup Alkaline: 4 bars XXXX Setup Nimh: 4 bars XXXX Garmin changed the batteryindicator levels compared to the vista hcx.
  7. in other words: 15 hours with 4 bars and if it changes from 4 bars to 3 bars the unit has only 95 minutes until power down. so if you see 3 bars it works maximal 95 minutes. the battery indicator of the gpsmap 62s has a big bug this behaviour was tested on several gpsmap62s with different eneloop-batteries
  8. here is a chart, how long the gpsmap 62s works with 3 bars 1. line: time of operation in minutes with 4 bars of batteryindicator (15 h = 900 min) 2. line: time of operation in minutes with 3 bars of batteryindicator (45 min) 3. line: time of operation in minutes with 2 bars of batteryindicator (30 min) 4. line: time of operation in minutes with 1 bars of batteryindicator (10 min) 5. line: time of operation in minutes with 1 bars of batteryindicator ("low batt message" 10 minutes before shutdown of gpsmap62s) So the 1 bar batteryindicator is shown for 20 minutes.
  9. How long does your gpsmap 62s work with only 3 bars of batterielevel? (Eneloop or any other rechargeable batterie) My unit works a lot of hours with 4 bars - but after changing to 3 bars, it only takes about 90 minutes until the unit powers off. (i already tried all types of batterie in the settings)
  10. That is a rather unusual behavior for a big company
  11. Did anyone get a feedback from 62-78Beta@garmin.com I am not sure, if my mails ever reached the beta-team. Or is it normal to get no reply?
  12. Just watch the batterie !!!!! 4 out of 4 bars will be a very long time - but if you have 3 bars, the unit will shut down in about 2-3 hours. therefore it is a big problem starting in the morning with 4 bars - and the unit is dead already at 11 am !!!
  13. Just got this email from Garmin: .... There is not a software bug with the altimeter but if you feel the unit is not working correctly please exchange it at your retailer....
  14. hello sammydee! you do not know that this bug was reportet at GARMIN.DE and forwarded to GARMIN.COM on 27. Juli !!!! https://forum.garmin.de/showthread.php?t=4966 That is more than 2 weeks of waiting!!!! and now, the guys do not know that there is a BIG BUG!
  15. until now product.support@garmin.com (just got an email) does NOT confirm that there is any altimeter bug which has to be fixed. If they cannot confirm this bug, they never might have started to solve that bug What's going on with that company.

  21. Just got an answer from Product Support Specialist/Outdoor/Fitness Team/Garmin International: There is not an altimeter bug at this time. Rest assured if there is then the engineers will release an update to correct the issue as soon as possible. So this is not a bug - it is normal behavior for the new gpsmap62s. What's going on there, GARMIN!
  22. This is not the squeak-thread This is the altimeter-bug-thread squeak-thread-->http://forums.Groundspeak.com/GC/index.php...p;#entry4419696 Thank you!
