  1. Well I'm sold. I'm going to look into a handle bar mount this sumer.
  2. heh Jeeps are cool. Thanks for the info guys!
  3. I know the idea of regular travel bugs but what is the difference between a regular TB and a Jeep TB? I was looking at this one today and noticed there is 2 different Jeeps also. IR
  4. As long as my GPS works after all the bombs drop I'm cool.
  5. Why not? I'll go bid on it then you can outbid me and not worry /grin
  6. I went from SporTrak to a Meridian Platinum and I love it. And because they are solid units I bought one even though they are at the end of their life. I also bought it new at Radio Shack for $169.95 which was a sweet deal. It was 10 dollars less then their SporTrak Pro. 2 bugs about the MeriPlat I had to get used to: 1) When routing as my next turn comes up it beeps and you can't really stop the beep (you can but it's not as convenient as a one button push). 2) When it does come on to tell you a turn is coming it turns the back light on for you. Nice at night but useless for daytime. This is not an option. I got over it though.
  7. Just wondering. It seems like it's not posted on the Magellan website but my connection at work is so sllooowww it's hard to really dig deep and look. Anyone know off hand? IR
  8. Duh?!? Auto route? Why would you want to pass that up. I use both a Topo map and a Routing map. I love it!!!
  9. Check out this page. It has all the stats on your GPS. Yes you need to get an SD card to upload maps to it. The 13 megabytes you see are probably your base map with some extra room for waypoints. I use a 128mb SD card I bought pretty cheap on eBay and it works pretty good. I have a topo map of Michigan and my DirectRoute map of Michigan which leaves me with about 45 megs to spare on the card for waypoints. Before I go geocaching I can load 4 or 5 different waypoint files for each zip code I will be in. When I get there I just load up a waypoint file from my card. I have thought about going bigger so when I leave the state I could put all the maps on there but I'm content with this one at the moment.
  10. Sometimes I have to walk around a bit with my Meridian Platinum. The other day it took me 100ft out of the way, I looked up and back down at the GPS and suddenly the cache was 100ft the other way. Once I got there I was in the right spot so I learned I not to trust the GPS right away. Sometimes I stand still and watch the WP move away from me. When it slows down I'll move towards the direction of the WP and repeat. 2 or 3 times of that and I get pretty close to my WP with it. I'm pretty sure most GPSrs are like that, some more than others. Cheers!
  11. So I made a few posts and haven't logged in in a few days so they're pretty far down the list. Can't I do a search for my posts somewhere?
  12. OK I bought a couple travel bugs and they came 2 in a package. DO I hold on to one and ship the other out to the field? Is there a quick link to the rules on TBs?
  13. I was travelling on a Northwest flight from Detroit to Kansas City and using my Magellan Sporttrack-Map on the plane (well after cruising altitude was reached) and was informed by a stewardess that I needed to turn it off and put it away. I did so, regardless of the fact that the Northwest Travel magazine in the seat informed me somewhere on the back few pages of what electronic devices were allowed to be used onboard the plane.. Including the GPS receiver. However, I was not really looking to argue with the lady regarding their policies.. I tend to be agreeable with airline staff, just because they can get strange.
  14. Activesync is the PocketPc software used to connect to the PDA. Try cachemate, it's really worth the 8 bucks. There are some other proggies out there if you look on the main geocaching.com page you'll see them.
  15. This question is regarding the kits. It's a toss up between the two so I though I'd ask the pros.
  16. Really? What didn't you like about Navman?
  17. I bought a Garmin from Best Buy a while back. Used it on the ride home, Put it back in the box and returned it the next morning. They tried to charge me a 15% restocking fee. I had that thing for 12 hours. Anyway it was one hell of a battle to get them to get over it. $10.00 I probably would have eaten cuz it was my decision not to like it but the restocking fee came to $46.00. I was pissed but they did me right ... wait, no they didn't. I returned a GPS that was faulty ... had the warranty, used the warranty for this return ... brought back the Garmin took my old GPS back and those jerks charged me for the warranty again. I was so tired from fighting over the $46.00 I took it and left. The cord on the old one had a short hence the return. What a headache lol.
  18. What's the fastest way to get cache waypoints along your route? (Say I was going south on I-75 and wanted caches with in a 5 mile radius of the freeway route.) Would you be able to view the HTML files on a Palm for tips and hints?
