  1. Hi chaps, Have not got the time to look after my Bristol AtoZ series to the standard I would like. If anyone would like to adopt the series (as a whole), that would be great. Otherwise I will look to archiving in the new year.
  2. Cheers. Why was it only some users? Or is that going to be way too technical for me?!
  3. Had same problems as peter-tvm, unable to edit coordinates or waypoints or see the map. Also fixed it by changing time zone in preferences.
  4. Good luck. I have permission from BCC for a few and the amount of red tape is absolutely ridiculous. I had to meet them on site (nice enough people mind) go through absolutely everything with them, then months of emails between them and other interested groups. Also good luck getting through the system to the person you need to speak to. I found it impossible, luckily a friend knew the right person to speak to, noone I spoke to at BCC did....
  5. I recently set up a field puzzle cache that involves a few things, including opening a puzzle box to get to the log. Go and check up on it a few weeks after published to find the puzzle box jammed I check the log and the last online log is just "TFTC" and the name is not in the logbook. This person has obviously gone and tried the puzzle, failed and jammed it in the process, still logged it as found, and not contacted me. Its a relatively delicate puzzle so I'm not too worried if it gets broken- which I state on the cache page, so breaking it and not contacting me or saying so in a NM log is rubbish. Also I think the same person has taken a TB from there and not logged it so the TB owner is now a bit upset as its missing. Obviously deleted the log.
  6. Yup same here not working for me, on safari on ipad, opera on laptop or browser on Samsung S3 Does work occasionally, but more often than not it will not load
  7. Exactly what I am intending I think. May end up with a few multis like that. No reply from reviewer as yet, so will work both out and see what happens!
  8. Thanks for the advice. Hopefully they will be lenient, I could place a rubbish (imo) cache 161m away or a great one that works with my series idea 110m away.
  9. I'm know of a great place for a hide that will hopefully be part of a very tricky series. However it is less than 0.1 mile away from the nearest existing hide. However it is at the bottom of a cliff, the nearest hide is at the top, a 15 minute walk away at least. Does that count for anything or are the rules applied rigidly? I guess there are ways around it, but I would like to formulate a plan of attack for what I hope will be a great and in part very difficult series Thanks
  10. Abandoned mines? I love em On a preliminary visit to Multi 2 A successful visit to Multi 1
  11. The higher the terrain rating the better Physical challenges are my fave, got ALOT of evil ideas and challenges to put out one day
  12. Did our first 5/5 on the weekend . I dont want to do anything under T4 now
  13. That all depends upon the landscape. Typical SAR will last 5-7 days looking for a lost hiker in our area. You want to last at least that long to come out alive. The contents of my daypack will allow me to survive three days in the winter with a debilitating injury and produce a fire quickly under those conditions. I can last longer than that knowing the lay of the land and what it produces for food to augment my supplies. I also have some electronics which if undamaged will allow my rescue to pinpoint my location as well as communicate with me by VHF/UHF with the distance depending upon location of repeaters. Absolutely! My gear is based around at worst a night out. SAR would be 24 hours max here, provided you havent strayed miles from where you said you would be. So the main stuff is for staying dry and keeping hydrated. The risk/weight of pack balance doesnt add up to taking any more for me, if you see what I mean.
  14. Thats alot of gear. For my hikes I am only out for a day and I always let someone know when I should be back and roughly where I am going, so I take survival bag, 1st aid kit, lighter, penknife, torch, whistle, duct tape, batteries, gps, extra top layer, waterproofs, spare food, water tablets In addition to usual waterproofs food/drink nav stuff etc No need to take stuff for longer time survival as the landscape doesnt require it imo
  15. If i haven't found the cache but i have found a syringe I will stop looking. In my experience if theres one you can see theres usually more that you cant see. I've seen used needles stuck to door handles before where i work, so I leave well alone if they are around. DNF and NM. If i've found the cache and a syringe i'll still post a NM
  16. Er, do you not think people might want to go out at night or in the snow to make it more challenging or enjoyable? I drove down snow covered roads, got stuck in a car park, dug the wheels out, walked through 12-18" of snow to try and find 3 caches a few days ago. Fell over loads of times, got stuck in a drift once, and generally had an great time, even though I only found one of them. Planned to get back to the van at 4, got back at half 5 in the dark, virgin snow is heavy going! It makes it more challenging and enjoyable for me. Caching at night is great aswell, particularly on the moors. Its only dangerous if you dont know the risks, I go prepared for being stuck out somewhere with no communications with injurys every time if I'm off road. Please dont tell me how to enjoy what I do, I do things ALOT more dangerous than walking/driving through snow at night, solo free climbing for example. Obsession/pasttime/hobby who really cares, its something I do in my spare time that I enjoy. If you want to stick to completely dry paths, wrapped up in cotton wool doing 2 caches a day, only when the sun is high in the sky, thats great and I hope you enjoy it!
  17. I dont do overnight stops, as theres no need around here (although they are nice on occasion). Tend to go as light as possible, one luxury item is a very short wired set of headphones to plug into my phone so I can tune into the radio. Usual gear- survival bag, 1st aid kit, lighter, penknife, torch, whistle, string, tape, batteries, gps, pen, map, compass, paper, extra top layer, waterproofs, food, spare food, water tablets, 1.5lt water. Cant think of anything I could safely get rid of! Just need to get some lighter boots....
  18. Take their chances to do what? Be picked up and moved by a cacher? If a TBs goal is to go to Asia or exciting places etc etc then I'll hold it for maybe a few months max until I go. If the owner has a problem with that I'll drop it off at a nearby cache and it can take its chances that someone else will be going that way....
  19. I'm intending on doing a similar thing next year. Intend to collect as many bugs that want to go round the world as possible in the couple of months leading up to my flight. If any owners have a problem with me holding onto them I'll drop them off and they can take their chances
  20. Where do they all go? I would say recently 75% of caches I've found with TB/GCs listed have not had them in there.
  21. Getting ideas for a Mystery puzzle involving Google Street view now..... heh This might also be a challenge for the World Trail possibly? Seems related... 'Challenge caches incorporate special logging requirements and are listed as Mystery/Puzzle caches. Typically they require the seeker to have previously met a reasonable geocaching-related qualification (Waymarking and Wherigo qualify too, of course) such as first finding a cache in every county in your state. If you are thinking of creating such a cache, please include a note to the reviewer demonstrating either that you have met the challenge yourself, or that a substantial number of other geocachers would be able to do so.'
  22. See, in theory I think this is a great idea. However in practice I think you might be waiting an extremely long time for the FTF! Backpackers or extreme enthusiasts I guess would be your aim. Problem is, if one cache in some remote place is lost, it would ruin the 'world tour'.
