Were you able to resolve your Captivate's GPS issues? I finally did but I had to root my phone to do it. Rooting is not the big deal everyone makes it out to be, but some aren't comfortable with it. One day I did have to take my phone to the AT&T service center for an unrelated problem. I admitted to them up front that I had rooted the phone and they didn't care one bit. Anyway, none of the apps on the Market ever helped. I used a combination of two fixes and have had great results. First I applied KJLM's GPS fix, which you can find here.

Then I applied PlumbBob's Fix. You can just search for that on XDA. KJLM's fix is probably on XDA, too.
Now I get a lock consistently within 5 seconds and have an accuracy of 10-15 feet.
