  1. It is easy, Dairy Queen is where you go to get food and a pocket query is what you do to see if you have the money to get the food. I paid for a membership about the time I found my first cache. I did not use any of the special features that the membership allowed me to use for a long time. I figured it was just a small amount to pay for the normal services provided, and my way to make sure it would be around for my future use.
  2. I wonder what will happen if I move this switch?
  3. I have to agree with those who say that being able to log only premium members would not work. I think a lot of premium members would not give out their code without getting one in return, thus excluding the non-premium members. This would be a tangible, in-your-face type thing, unlike all the other benifits of being a premium member. The concept is good, but needs a way to not exclude a large group. I think that everyone being able to log everyone, but allow only premium members to make notes and post pictures or such would make it much more popular and usefull.
  4. Seems like the concept is one sided where both would have to exchange codes and both would have to enter the codes into the site. In reality, they both met each other. Conceivably, the site could show one cacher met a person and that other person didn't meet the original person. Also, you'd still have the "lists issue" where folks could pass around lists. Then the person whose code has been passed around has to explain why he's deleting logs and would have the change the code. I detailed in another thread a way that would eliminate codes, the one-way aspect, and any need to delete logs. I'll recap: a link on the profile page that a visitor clicks to indicate they've met the person whose profile they're viewing. The profilee receives a message indicates someone met them and asks them to confirm it. Kind of like moderating the links instead of having to edit or delete them. It's a two way street and it really doesn't matter which person initiates the link. There is one element of this scheme that is both a positive and a negative. The other person has to acknowledge the link. The negative is that someone is denied a link if the other person drops out. The positive is that a person can not claim a link that the other person doesn't acknowledge. Also, this will work without folks having to pass around codes and can be retroactive all the way back to whenever without having to try to remember who met, forgetting you met someone (because they might remember and remind you), and a lot less hassle. The real difference between the two schemes is yours is front-loaded with the confirmation code and mine is rear-loaded with a manual confirmation. I have seen it work the way you describe on www.facebook.com . It works rather well, and does keep the bogus linking down for people concerned with it.
  5. Thanks for the interpetation. The idea is not one I have seen before. Adding a story to go with the pic would be cool.
  6. That writing on the cache container really gives it away. Without the writing, I would probably spend a while looking for it, but with the writing I coud go right to it.
  7. So if the pieces of a chess set were broken and you could no longer tell what piece was what, there is no harm done?
  8. Only if they find the hospital before death sets in.
  9. Did you take a picture of yourself nude and holding the ammo box? So sorry, Richard. That particular subject has been done to death already. I rather doubt it will resume the popularity it held a week or so ago. So you are saying you did not get that picture taken? If you need help getting that picture, I can help. We would not even need to find the same one. We could jsut use ones I have around the house, and if we hold them at different angles, you could claim them as different caches.
  10. The focus for this upgrade was to try to get the forums back to a fully working state. There are an enormous number of back-end changes that were made that should help the overall performance and hopefully solve the search engine issues we ran into. There were also major changes to the skin templates, so our old skin won't work with this new version. The skin that is here now is just the default skin that comes with the software and all we did was just drop in our logo at the top. I too preferred the color scheme of the older skin and I'd imagine that once we've fixed all the little bugs that will crop up from this upgrade that we'll probably work on improving the look of the skin as well. Elias Cool, thanks for the info. I do understand that there are much more important things than the skin of the forums and appreciate the work you guys have been doing.

    Forum Skins

I noticed that there is a drop down menu for changing the forum skin, but that there is only one choice. Is there going to be more later? If so, I would like one that looked like the previous one. I like the new features of this one, but the look is not what I prefer.
  12. Email sent. You are very generous El Diablo. Thank you and Merry Christmas.
  13. This link will give you a real time indication of the precision service area for WAAS. As you can see some of Canada is covered. http://www.nstb.tc.faa.gov/vpl.html Ok, what do the different colors mean on that map? I cannot figure out what it means.
  14. I love the avatars that show some personality, even if they are larger than normal. I think Ambrosia's avatar would not be near as cool if it was confined to the smallish square everyone else uses. (including myself) i find them much more appealing than the more common derivatives of the Groundspeak logo, but I like uniquness(sp?).
  15. I like the concept of the game, get people to exercise by making it fun. The only downside i see to this would be the need to play it in a field so there is plenty of room the maneuver without running into something
  16. I have been thinking on how do a night cache since there is not any in my area that I know of. I was thinking of using glow in the dark paint for each stage coordinates to make it difficult to do in the daylight. Not sure if it will work, and am still trying to find the right place to do it.
  17. I to am getting the first error you mentioned.

    Road Miles

This should in the geachaing.com part of the board, as it will probably gt a faster response. As for doing it, it would be very cmples and probably be a serious drain on bandwidth. One difficulty is that it would show only one route, and it may not be the fastest or shortest way.
  19. This is from the greasecar site Pablo Mac linked to. Is it me or has oil stopped being classified as a petroleum product?
  20. I also use the Garmin neoprene case for my Legend. I also hang it around my neck so that both hands can be free if needed.
  21. I usually cache alone. Most of the caches in the town have been placed by the only frequent cachers here. Of course there is a fairley new cacher (besides me) that I want to talk to about going caching together, but if not I will continue to cache alone.
  22. I have a keycahin multitool made by craftsmen. It is not big enough for serious nuts and bolts, but plenty strong enough for anything you can get the jaws around. It has become indespenable to me. It is small and light, attaches to the key ring, and has a rubber cover to keep it from snaging on anything. I have used it many times. It has especially come in handy when fixing computers for others. I have even used it to grab things in tight spots, like logs from micros and such. And with a Sears store practically everywhere, if I do manage to ever break it, it is a quick trip to get it replaced.
  23. So true about the hiking, I didnt even pay attention to where the article was. My mistake. I dont blame them for plugging their site either. I believe it was good to state that both sites are used, I just thought the wording was odd ( probably just me though)
  24. I dont understand what the colors mean on the first link you posted EraSeek. Do the cooler colors represent better accuracy or worse? i am guessing better by the area covered, but it still confuses me.
  25. Great article. It was well written and the Q&A portion is a nice touch. There were a few very minor things that I noticed. It could have been a little bit clearer that not all caches requre a long hike to get to. It also felt like it was saying that geocaching.com was only a starting point for learning the game before moving on to different sites when you learn it. I know these are minor things, and they do not take away from the quality of the article, so please dont hate me for stating them.
