  1. I've not tried them but my opinon is that they are expensive for the added gimic of being able to charge them by USB, comparing:- AA USB Cell £10.99 for 2 (capacity per cell 1300mah) - free postage http://www.usbcell.com Ordinary Ni-Mh AA's £3.19 for 4 (capacity per cell 2600mah) - p+p £3.95 http://www.7dayshop.com
  2. I mostly use a waist pack (2-3litres) for routes less than 4hrs which will hold :- 2lt Platypus hydration + food digital camera gps mp3 player binoculars batteries pda map fleece/waterproof I use a back pack for all day'rs but I'm not keen on them as my back ends up soaking and I seem to always take more than I need
  3. I aim for 52 per year, currently ahead - I mainly go for one's which I can waste the day admiring the views

  5. On the topic of Scafell Pike, tonight on BBC4 there was a programme on Wainwright's guide to Scafell, the programme is repeated regularly over the next 2 weeks Wainwright's Walks Series in which Julia Bradbury explores the work of the great British fell walker and author, Alfred Wainwright. Julia faces the ultimate Wainwright challenge - Scafell Pike, England's highest peak. Before tackling the 3,000ft ascent, she seeks advice from celebrated fell-runner and local sheep farmer, Jos Naylor. Then it's just a case of getting herself and her film crew to the roof of England before darkness falls.
  6. Majority of it is unable because it's used more than it share of bandwidth, in other words its too popular at the moment
  7. Already a thread here: http://forums.Groundspeak.com/GC/index.php?showtopic=158114
  8. Logs that don't contain TFTC at the end are not counted
  9. Owner of Lakes Cam has logged in
  10. The aqueduct route passes very close to where I live in Kendal (viewable on www.live.com), no nearby caches unless you fancy walking up the nearest hill, what criteria are you giving for inclusion of your list. There's a book called 'The Thirlmere Way' which is about a walk that follows the route. (out of print but loads of copies in all cumbria libraries) it may help in identifing nearby caches
  11. Log it normally, who ever is the FTF will make it known in their log
  12. I get in no problem with Mirc - you're not missing much, no one is at home
  13. Not had any problem, normally have a browse every week or so
  14. What if they were caches .... http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/americas/6319211.stm
  15. Ignoring location and the usual ebay checks you need to do like feedback what you need to do is take the cost inc postage and add on the customs/tax collection cost you maybe charged and compare that price to prices if you bought it in the UK - if it still turns out alot cheaper then go for it. If you don't get the customs charge then see it as a bonus.
  16. I've seen the odd one or two but most of the caches in this area are set by whose who found a few before setting their first. Of the odd ones, one is near one of my caches and the owner hasn't responded to any comments from finders that the co-ords are out and that the cache needs some TLC. Another had good comments but was archived by one of the Ops 7 months ago (No reason why, I assume it was because one of the other owners caches needed some TLC), I found it 2 weeks ago and it's in excellent condition and in a good location. Finally (This one has been winding me up) a new cache 30mins drive away set by a newbie, co-ords clearly wrong and no one has found it - apart from me one other DNF - using the description and clue I've found where I believe it should be - but no responce from the cache own.
  17. Well this morning took the normal 1hr commute down south on the M6 from Cumbria to the Fylde coast, along the way I passed a lorry that had blown over north bound between Preston and Lancaster closing two lanes, they managed to clear it by later morning. But come lunchtime there had been another two accidents on the same stretch with lorrys which now closed the M6 north between Preston / Lancaster till late this evening, adding to this was the fact I didn't have my Street Atlas of Lancashire or my GPS. So I had 4 choices to get home:- 1) Route everyone else does when the M6 is closed (A6) - Est 4hrs 2) Drive cross country to Skipton then up to Cumbria - Est 3hrs (2.25hrs is A6 Preston is clear which it wouldn't be) 3) A/B roads upto Lancaster south but avoiding A6 Nth - Est 2hrs, involves A6 but in oposite direction to traffic 4) Country lanes north - Est 1.5hrs but you need to know you lanes or have gps 1/2 was totally out, done 3 a few times when the M6 has been closed previously in the last 12mths but wanted to try 4. So I left an hour early to try and get more of the navigating done before it gets dark. Along part of the route I do every day a tree blocked the road so a minor change, then the M55, off at next junction north passing an overturned lorry, then east towards A6, missed my turning for route 4 so on with route 3. Hit traffic 0.25mile from the A6 that took me 30mins to get through, then the knowledge came into action at the A6, instead of going north I went south and took next left through Garstang north, to avoid the A6 you can drive through a housing estate and at the end a pot holed lane takes you to a coutry lane which you can take nth east of the M6. Now it was dark and at some point I needed to go nth west to get the next junction back onto the M6, get the wrong turn and you end up going through the Trough of Bowland and out the otherside in Yorkshire. Lucky the lorry in front knew where I was going, back on the M6 and home 30mins later. If only I had my GPS as there were 6 caches along this route that I not got yet.
  18. I'd send a friendly mail to the cacher regarding the possible mistake, then forget about it - I did this last year to a newbie, he didn't correct his mistake or reply back to me but he now regularly out in the area caching. On the subject of Archived caches, couple of weeks back I intentional went out looking for a cache that had been archived 8 months previously - found it straight away in excellent condition plus someone else had written in the log 2 days previously about their find.
  19. the only thing keeping me is trying to solve the puzzle - any hints would be appreciated!!! You've missed your chance, the Jeep has now gone D
  20. If you told them about caching they may of thought you had an unfair advantage
  21. Just seen an advert for a new show on Channel4 that starts Sunday called 'The Search', it looks like a UK version on the US show 'Treasure Hunters' which I found quite good and gave me a few ideas for caches, so this maybe worth watching: Showtimes are :- Sunday 07/01/2007 at 21:00 Someone at Channel 4 has clearly got a childlike love of treasure hunts. After Tony Robinson romped around the British Museum in Codex, here we have something on a bigger scale - much bigger. Jamie Theakston has hidden seven secret symbols in seven countries and he's got ten photogenic contestants on the hunt for them. Only a brief taster tape was available but it looks like an agreeable, semiintellectual caper. Whereas in Codex part of the fun was trying to crack the code before the dimwitted contestants did, here it doesn't look like there'll be the same play-along factor. In fact, the whole thing feels less about breaking a "web of cyphers and codes" and more about women in tight clothing climbing rope ladders and running up spiral staircases. Which, for the kind of Da Vinci Code fanbase this is aimed at, can only increase its appeal. RT reviewer - David Butcher Saturday 13/01/2007 at 17:40 Global treasure hunt entertainment series presented by Jamie Theakston. The contestants take in Venice, Florence and Pisa, cracking codes and unravelling mysteries in the hope of winning 50,000 pounds in buried treasure. The contestants crack codes and unravel clues at Notre Dame de Paris, Notre Dame de Chartres and the Citadel of Carcassonne.
