  1. Can't confirm with osx but I'm using the 'send to gps' option with my garmin legend via a usb to serial converter on Win2k and it works like a dream.
  2. Bilmey US gas prices starting to pinch, thank yourself lucky you're not here in the UK where we pay $7.50 per gallon
  3. The Lakes look very nice, I can see my old car from 5 yrs back in my drive
  4. Clear skies here in the south lakes

  6. Recommend using the RSS feed with Googles personal homepage Nice way to keep an eye on everything
  7. Never see any spam on my mail gmail account, google do an excellent job of identifying it and storing a the spam folder and never forwards it on
  8. 1 Everyone whos logged on the website for my cache has put it in the log book, currently 95% of cachers signing in my log book have also logged the find on the website - pretty much what I'd expect. There has been no sign yet of anyone accidently finding the cache 2 There's orienteering done in the area, but this will be mostly temporary placement of a series of markers(few days), I know of a couple of locations where there are more permanent placement of markers for orienteering. Only other activites done in the area that don't involve the placement of a object/marker will be Wainwright bagging / Birkett bagging and trigpoint bagging
  9. There was a cache locally last week that came up which I would of rushed out for as it was on a regular route of mine, but I held back for two reasons, the placer was a newbie and hadn't made any finds plus the description consisted of 2 short sentences so my first thought was maybe 'sock puppet' account My suspicions were partly founded as the first two cachers posted a DNF, turns out the newbie had made the mistake of requesting a review before putting the cache, after he/she posted a note to say it's been placed someone came and found it. You weigh things up and make a choice Every other occasion I've gone out for a FTF having already noted some DNF's, I don't fully expect to find them and normally take in other caches to make up the day and class these as a bonus. I don't travel distances just for a FTF
  10. If Helen Mirren has no problem refusing then I would expect you'd have no problem in ...............
  11. Nothing wrong in a non-PM logging a PM cache they've completed, I've done it in the past
  12. Surprised at such a small number out of the 18k UK caches
  13. Never realised there was a league table and I'm on it - famous at last
  14. Link below has all the caches in nth england, sth scotland plotted - should be useful http://david.j.whitehead.googlepages.com/cachemap_nth.gif
  15. Since you already do the Lakes regularly, my vote goes to Yorkshire Dales using the Settle area as a bas, you've got over 100 caches within 30mins drive, plus there are lots in butches to make up walking circuits
  16. Any publicity is good for geocaching, so on occasions it may affect the performance of the site, it's to be expected and it can happen to any site even those designed to cope with it like it did this week the digg.com when an american organisation tried to stop posts appearing on the digg site.
  17. If the cache owner has no problem the no issue really, only thing I can think of is that it may lead to user posting notes advertising there own nearby caches by posting notes
  18. GETTING MY FIRST FTF! You don't need to be a premium member to get a FTF, you just need to be quicker than anyone else
  19. Has anyone been experiencing issues with geocaching.com with IE6 or 7, this week I've updated my IE6 for the latest security update and when using geocaching.com to search local caches the browser crashes when pressing the next button for next page. If I roll back the update then the site works ok - I've had issues with other sites on odd occasions.
  20. Whats the record for the most finds in a day by a single person?
  21. I had lots on Sunday after attempting a shortcut through dense wildiness, luckily they were just on my clothing (lots of babies), so just many forceful flicks required to get rid of them and resigned to stick to the paths (which the signs in the area recommend inorder to avoid the ticks)
  22. Whats also happening is that some users of in-car gps lockin their home co-org so the thiefs having nicked the gps and know theres a good chance no-one is at home use the gps to find the home to ransack
  23. Seems the Royal Navy use the same GPS that I use - Garmin Legend http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/6501555.stm
