  1. Don't know about Flash Earth but you can do your own pointers in google maps like the following examples Google Map - Normal Google Map - Satellite Hybrid or you can put your co-ord in the url string Co-Ord example
  2. deja vu http://forums.Groundspeak.com/GC/index.php?showtopic=171131
  3. This is the biggest I've found, the water is a bonus plus imagine having to carry it for 2 miles Cache box
  4. I see nothing wrong in a local always being able to get to a cache first, it's all part on the game, also got nothing against how a cache owner sets their cache to the benefit of certain sections of geocachers, whether that being requesting it be published at a certain time or requiring certain local knowledge that you feel you regular will take longer to find than other locals. One problem you've done with this post is that you've made it too easy to identify the guy, looking at the individials profile I'm not surprised they're rushing out to your caches as the new ones local are the only one's available locally. Recommendation on when to hide your next caches - this individual doesn't do much caching on a Tuesday and Thursday during August. Another idea to stop him being FTF - take him to the pub for a drink the night the cache gets publish, get him drunk enough so he's not legal to drive the next day.
  5. I reseated the rubber on my Legend a couple of weeks back, it was a pain feel process 1. take of rubber 2. peel of gooey double side tape (leave single sided tape undernith in place) 3. remove glue from rubber using warm soapy water 4. do same on the unit, just go more carefully and take the batteries out 5. let everything dry 6. cut photo rated double sided tape and place it round the unit, I did mine in 4cm strips (don't put it over the button switches) 7. start at the top, peel the backing and seat the rubber 8. next do the same at the bottom 9. and finally to the sides I think what caused the glue to go on mine was travelling between caches on hot sunny days
  6. A degree of artistic freedom has been used in the programme in the name of entertainment. They've used the position used in a competition called 'Polar Race 2007', which is the position the north pole was at 11 years ago
  7. I can see the spaces for ad's but no ad's, strange
  8. Wouldn't you know the distance to the cache when you're planning your trip and plan where best to park On my cache I've put a recommended parking spot as an additional waypoint, and put in the description average walking time to the cache
  9. Area around Appleby is very sparse of caches, 1 in the valley at Dufton (nice 1hr walk round a wood) and 3 up in the hills (not done these) anyway these are interesting caches within 15km of Appleby I've done in order of distance:- GC46A4 GCA69B GCNFBE GCVAHJ GCX3G5 GCYKAF GCKT17
  10. No idea on whether it's a cheap campsite but a few weeks back I did a abit caching round Borrowdale which took me through the campsite at Holmcrag Farm which looked very good (alot of cachers stayed their for a meet so someone should be able to post how much it was). There a 20 caches in the area, I did 11 on a days walks (link below pics of the views and Bolderstone), theres another 10 round Derwent Water. A drive on route to Buttermere gets a few. http://picasaweb.google.com/David.J.Whiteh...dale_Castlerigg
  11. In the UK we have a supplement geocache site (http://www.geocacheuk.com/) where we can rate our cache finds which is very popular, yes it's subjective but it's an added aid thats useful.
  12. I use one with my old Palm and garmin legend with no problems http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/ProductInfo...ProductID=98192
  13. What? Join facebook or send you an invite I've joined Facebook, not figure out the point yet and it seem to be going the same way as my Myspace page, "Friends" who I don't know leaving comments. Probable the same as Friends Reunited as well where you're interested in whats going on but don't fancy contacting anyone
  14. Old versions http://franson.com/gpsgate/download.asp?section=legacy
  15. I'd be inclined to notified the cache owner in the first instance to give them a chance to respond or recify the concern, if no responce or concern not agreed then a note to the admin for them to take forward. It's too easy for there to problems with caches and most cache owners can sort them out if notified
  16. Got a problem, my facebook geocaching stats says I've done 146 where as my gc.com profile correctly says I've done 165
  17. Your post is implying that you are trying to use copied software which I expect is none kosha, if this it not the case then I apologise. Your problem will that you have old maps that your trying to load on a new version of memory map, the new version requires the latest maps. There is a method of modifying the old maps using a hex-editor for it to work with the new application which people use legally on their purchased old maps, but since it's implied your maps are not purchased by yourself the only info I can give is that google is your friend.
  18. Looking at the location, it's one for the serious walker, abit out of the way for me
  19. 'Hitchhiker' !! They are going to hide a cache with a prize in the Lakes
  20. No need to write a Greasemonkey script there are loads already. But in removing the ads, longer term it'll contribute to other methods of revenue being sourced, Groundspeak is a business
  21. Lots of choice available here in Cumbria
  22. If it's the first time you've had it on since you came over then it'll take abit of time figuring out that it's 1000's of miles away from it's last position. Also if you're in the square mile then the tall building will be making the initial lock difficult. Recommend you find a open park or walk down to the Thames to get a good view of the sky, should make it easier to get an initial lock (just don't do it at this time of night, wait till morning)
  23. My vote goes for the Lake District, yes it is touristy but you don't need to follow the tourists, areas to recommend:- Kendal - 34 caches which include two sets of 10 caches that can be completed in two 3hr walks with good views. Holme Fell/Hodge Lodge (Nr Coniston) - a good circle walk or cycle taking in 10 caches Borrowdale (Nr Derwent Water, Keswick) - 6 hr walk taking in 15 caches Haweswater Reservoir (Nr Shap, park at East side) - 6 hr walk taking in 7 caches Plus lots of drivebys cache between these locations
