  1. Since you are in Ohio I would recommend caching north through Michigan, across the Mackinaw, to Marquette Michigan, which is a beautiful city on the lake. Then down through Wisconsin back to Ohio.
  2. I have cached for a while now with the same caching buddy. We have fallen into a routine where who every finds the cache opens it and hands the log to the other cacher. Not having to ink the log and having the opportunity to look through the contents first is kind of a reward for finding it. Of course this means the finder has to put the cache back too, which is not so good when we find a nano micro.
  3. A hotel room key... I traded for it just for fun. After leaving the cache I realized I could not keep it because if my wife found it I am not sure she would believe I got it out of a cache, since there was no logical reason for taking it. So I threw it out pretty quickly.
  4. Put this one out with a friend. The plaque says: This tree planted in honor of U.C. DaCache 2006
  5. I like to write my friends name on them with a Sharpie and leave them as a personal swag item.
  6. Fake bat house that says geocaching on the outside, so the cacher is sure it is the cache. Of course a bat jumps out at you when you open it.
  7. This is a bookmark list of caches in your area that require a boat to get to. This bookmark list is maintained by a cacher in your area called "alciato". Have fun. Water caches are my favorites..... small boat caches
  8. This is picture of my Jeep Cherokee at a cache on Lake Lanier, Georgia. The lake is about twenty feet low in this picture. My Jeep and the tree in the background should be under water. I just purchased a used Jeep Wrangler JK. I am looking forward to doing some caches with the top down. When I get some caching pictures of the JK I will post them also.
  9. Huh? Why resurrect a 7 years old dead thread? Should be obvious. 7 years, and still the same topics coming up... exactly the same topics. 20 years from now, this will still be discussed. There will still be geocaching, though it may not be at geocaching.com, and people will still argue about hiding vs finding ratios. Mark my words! Well we should lock down the whole forum then. It is apparent that nobody will every have an original thought, idea, or opinion. I did enjoy reading the old thread. When I have time to kill I think I will look at some of the other old ones. The interesting part about it was back in 2001 it seemed like 10 finds was a lot, and I am sure it was because they were far and few between.
  10. I have a group of caching buddies I love to cache with. It is always a good time. I cache alone whenever they are not available, and still enjoy it, but it is not as much fun as when I am with my buddies. My wife has decided for safety reasons I should not cache alone in the mountains. I tend to agree so I don't argue. I save the mountain caches for when my buddies are available, and do the urban caches when alone.
  11. When you ask for a hint you might consider describing how big of a hint do want. Do you want a big old bone, or maybe just a gentle nudge. It helps if you describe what you have found and seen, so the cache owner can understand how far along you are and give a better description of what you are looking for. As a cache owner I love it when I get asked for hints. It makes me feel part of the hunt.
  12. I am with briansnat. If I had to choose I would find. I really enjoy hiding, and as others have said I am always trying to do a better hide than the previous hide. That being said, there is no way I could do twenty quality hides a weekend, so, if I had to choose, I would be a finder only.
  13. "Awesome Alpharetta" is in the Alpharetta welcome center. GC167V2
  14. Right, that is a preform glued inside a coke bottle with the original top cut off. The liquid in the bottle is non-toxic antifreeze with black food coloring. Edit to say: Thanks for the link I have some on order.
  15. Where did you get the "preform" tube from? I used one in this cache, but have not seen any more since I found this one. I need another one in case this cache gets CITO and I have to replace it.
  16. Fix the problem with the NPS system so we can put caches in National Parks. One way to do this maybe is if we had a review/approver who's sole responsibility is for National park caches. The NPS reviewer would work directly with the NPS to ensure National Park caches are not in sensitive areas and meet the requirements the NPS would impose.
  17. Check out this log from a cache in the Dawsonville wildlife management area. I did this cache a couple of months before this incident occurred: log link This is also the same wildlife management area where the body of the recent missing hiker in Georgia was found. This WMA host several caches.
  18. Why go anywhere? Why worry about the clouds? Just stay in your chair, drink a beer, and log a virtual.
  19. Tire pressure gage. I have used it almost every month for a couple of years now.
  20. I use my laptop nearly every time I go caching. I have an AT&T cell card in my laptop. Most everywhere I have cell phone service I have Internet access. It cost about the same as a cell phone. You have to buy the card, then it is ~$49 a month unlimited. I have other uses for it besides caching, like when I am on the lake or when I am visiting family out of town. I don't think I would have bought it just for caching, but since I have it, it sure helps out. I do worry about smash and grab, but I keep it pretty well hidden in my vehicle when I have to go more than a 100 feet away. If you can justify it with enough usage it works quite well. It does not have the same speed as WiFi, but I am not watching videos or gaming with it so it works fine for what I am doing.
  21. Vinnie's Sell your soul cache is off my list. http://forums.Groundspeak.com/GC/index.php?showtopic=179750
  22. We all know many many kids cache with their parents. If a kid sees a cigarette in a cache he may generalize that cachers smoke, and since he knows that cachers are cool, well then smoking must be cool. I know its reaching, but I hate seeing cigarettes in caches also. If I was caching with a child I would think it would be hard to explain it away.
  23. I was out jet skiing on the lake last summer. I pulled up on an island and found an ammo box laying on the beach. The ammo box had "geocaching.com yes, deer" written on the side of it. This is a cache I had previously done, but on an island about two miles away. There was several logs from muggles in the log book, including the muggle who said the game looked cool and they will move the box to a different location so somebody else can find it. I grabbed the box and moved it back to the proper location.
