Need Someone To Take Over My Kansas Caches
LostPuppy replied to Shane the Evil Twin's topic in Midwest
Shane, I tried to send you an email and it was rejected. -
Go to http://www.itsnotaboutthenumbers.com/ and upload a copy of your "My Finds" pocket query. It's all web based. Have fun!

What's with the religious stuff?
LostPuppy replied to Keith Arnold's topic in General geocaching topics
I'm offended you pointed out that I am weight-challenged. I would 'lighten up' as you put it, if I wasn't oppressed by the law of gravity. Or was I offended by your pigment intolerance. I can't lighten up until winter when I hibernate for long periods of time and the sun stops affecting my melanin. I know I must be offended by something. It's the thing to do... -
I got to do a rabies series after being bit by a stray dog. Rather ironic.

When I get tired of being asked "Daddy, can I have my own account" Well, that worked for the older (now 6), but her younger brother doesn't have one yet. He'll get one when he can sign the log book.

I think that just proves there is no wildlife in the Snake River flood plain. Particularly near Jackson, WY.

New Computer-Need GSAK, Cachemate Advice
LostPuppy replied to Geckolovers's topic in GPS technology and devices
From the GSAK web site: 14. I want to use GSAK on my laptop as well, do I have to buy another registration? The license agreement which you accept when installing GSAK does explain this (Yea, I know, who reads that rubbish) but I would just like to make it clear. The GSAK license is for the USER and not the computer. This means you can install and register it on your desktop, laptop, work computer (providing you have permission) etc. It is not only OK to do this, I actively encourage it. One of the main reasons for the backup/restore feature was so you could transfer GSAK data/settings between computers. This may be at odds with other license agreements, but I just don't think it fair you have to pay for the software on each computer YOU use.So if you are a bit geeky, and like me have 5 computers, then by all means install and register on all 5 without an ounce of guilt However, This does not mean you can use your license key on your friend's/relative's computer so he/she can use it. -
Got mine! Wichita, KS.

Reading the cache page--who does it?
LostPuppy replied to Treasure Pirate's topic in General geocaching topics
I've (probably) read every cache page in my area. I use them to determine whether they stay in my GPSr loads. I also load them all in the PDA. It is part of my evening down time to read the descriptions and be familiar with what I still have to find in my area. I also try and spend a few minutes to make my cache pages amusing, though I tend towards very brief descriptions. OTOH, when I'm out caching, I usually follow the "go to next" philosophy and don't see them in the field unless I have a problem finding a container. Generally, I remember what the cache is from the title, but it doesn't always hold true. I have spent 30 minutes looking for a container on a cache that was a virtual stage of a multi. I accept responsibility for those times I end up chasing my tail if it allows me to enjoy the fun of grab and go caching. -
Well, let's see... She sure loves days like today when I round up all three puplets and go to the monthly event. It means she gets to sleep in. She enjoys taking lots of pictures like on this one: GC7051 and using them for her scrapbooking addiction. She even went out and found one without me while showing one of her friends how to use a GPSr. So all in all, she enjoys it, but as much as I do, or maybe even the kids do.

Try clicking the bottom left button to pull up the menu. Choose found cache Voila - it shows your found caches. Do it again to select unfound.

Thanks for the heads up. Got swarmed by a flock of those nasty bloodsuckers tonight. I figure the West Nile might do a good job devouring the Lyme disease I picked up last week playing with ticks. With the way tornadoes are blowing through, they'll make it all moot anyway. []

How do you cache? What "method" is the most fun for you?
LostPuppy replied to Miragee's topic in General geocaching topics
I load (almost) everything in my local area that appears to be up & active just in case I'm in that part of town and have a few minutes. There are a few exceptions where I know I won't be hunting them unless it's a specific goal, like night caches. As far as my selection process, it depends. If a new cache pops up and it is in a reasonable driving distance, I will drop everything and make a run for it. Sometimes, I pack up some or all of the puplets and go find whatever terrain 2 or lower caches are around. Even at 6 & younger, they don't mind log-only micros as long as they have room to help. Sometimes I pick a destination and load up a variety of caches to do en route and at the destination. Last weekend we took a day trip to Dodge City and found 12 or so, and everyone got to take turns looking (including the long suffering Mrs. Puppy). Sometimes I get free time and select a target with a hike involved. Or I pick a cache dense area and see how many I can grab in 2-3 hours just following the 'Next' arrow. Or I go get the smiley on that nasty puzzle I've been trying to solve. I guess it just means I'm rather haphazard about how I cache. It just depends on the moment... -
A DeLorme Challenge with a twist.
LostPuppy replied to Totem Clan's topic in General geocaching topics
The Idaho DeLorme challenge has the find or hide option. There was at least one page that was cacheless when it started. I think it makes a whole lot of sense for those great open places where cache density is not quite a problem. [] Is there a reason it needs to be the first hide? Theoretically, two people may both have hides waiting for approval thinking they are the first to hide. Might as well make it any hide... Just my thoughts. -
The cache that caused the commotion was not one of barondriver's, but after discussing with the authorities, he archived two of his that were near the airport just to avoid any potential issues.

With Plucker & GSAK, I export my caches to HTML in GSAK (one of its supported export formats). I then use Plucker to transform it to its format and load it on my Palm. Being are a bit Obsessive/Compulsive, I have one file for my local caches, one for the entire state, and one with my entire waypoint library (3300). This is all loaded on my Palm z22.

I know I already posted, but this was today with the youngest. She wasn't in the other pics...

Puplets with a travel bug: The princess helping with a virt: Plenty of pictures not uploaded... It's hard to get out for the more difficult hikes since they want to go treasure hunting with me every time

We Want Spring! We Want Spring! We Want Spring!
LostPuppy replied to Western Mass Clan's topic in General geocaching topics
I guess I shouldn't mention that it was in the 70's here today... -
In almost 800 finds, the most inappropriate thing I've come across in a cache is a pocket knife the size of my pinkie (which now resides on my key ring). I'm not fast enough to keep my kids (6 & 3) from retrieving the container, but I do try and stop them from rifling through it before I get a chance to inspect. That being said, if we find something inappropriate, it will just become a "teachable moment" and I will do my best to be a parent.

Can't match that. The closest was caching the morning I was going to be best man for my buddy's wedding. No way I was going to miss adding another state to my list []

PDA: Should I Pay For Higher Screen Resolution
LostPuppy replied to michigansnorkelers's topic in General geocaching topics
I use an old Palm Vx and it works just fine for caching since all I carry are descriptions with logs & hints. I wouldn't want to try to read maps on it. For maps, the resolution might make a big difference. -
LOL. I guess I'm just a bit blind. Also explains all the DNFs...

A feature that I would find extremely useful would be the ability to select multiple PQs for deletion from the summary page. When I travel, I will often setup a few queries for the area(s) I will be hitting, and will run them for a few weeks heading up to my trip. I've also set up queries for regions I was frequently visiting that I would run as needed, which is why they weren't set as run once and delete. When I go back in to do some housecleaning, it is quite tedious to have to enter each individual query to delete it when it is no longer needed. Since there are already checkboxes built on the listing page, would it be too much of a development effort to add a "Delete selected queries" button? From a design point of view, adding a non-functinoal button is easy [], but would the coding behind it be fairly straight-forward? I'm not sure if many people are as peucliar as I am about how they use the PQs, but it would be a big help for me. Thanks!
