  1. Found the enter key problem. Manually read through all the way until Woof!'s post. Can't believe it took that long. Similar to Rovertje suggestion, I liked the ability to see all the caches in Australia on one list. Now I have to search by state. COuld you add another option for "All States" please.
  2. Caloundra City #1 and Mountain Creekside are pretty close to Mooloolaba. In Brisbane, I'd say do "Really Useful", if just to see the cache container. I think it's the oldest surviving Queensland cache. There are heaps of others near here around Mt Coot-tha. Also try Expotition to the North Pole, my vote for best themed cache. If you are into climbling mountains, pick any of the Glass House Mountains, which are near the Sunshine Coast, and chances are there'll be a cache there. Hope this helps. bmac.
  3. I just tried using AvantGo for the geocaching.com search, and I must say it looks dreadful on my Handspring Visor Edge. You have to scroll sideways to read each line because it displays the page wider than the screen. Plus you still have the left side menu taking up space. I think I will stick with geoclipper and Hint Decoder for now, which both work brilliantly for my needs. Good for spur of the moment geocaching. Might try pocket queries when I save up some money.

    Postcodes?

Beaten to it by ideology! Anyway, I found this in my web travels today and remembered this forum topic. National Mapping products catalogue License form
  5. I planted my only cache so far at night. I kept running into spider webs that were spun across the path, which made it quite freaky. I have also had a no-find (found later during the day time) and 1 find at night, just before a big thunder storm.
  6. I was looking for a cache once where the suggested parking spot was about 100 m into the ocean. Didn't take their advice on that one, but found the cache alright.
  7. What do people usually use as log books in micro caches? I would also like to find something to act as a sort of passport for a travel bug.
  8. Not really what you are after, but I scanned in a free RACQ map, and then calibrated it in Garmap2 on a couple of places I had been to. A bit hit and miss until I got it right. Good enough to give me a fair idea of where caches are.
  9. Would the refresh rate have something to do with it also? I have my GPSr set on battery save mode, which means (I think) it only updates every 1 second or so. On a curvy track, this would mean lots of tiny straight line short cuts. During bad signal, the reported position can jump around by a bit, even while standing still. Once it was 50 m. Would this be counted as having walked 50 m?
  10. Thanks for that. I found it straight away with that. I was looking for one I had seen before (and since done), but the keyword searchs were all coming to nothing, so I couldn't log the find. I still think this would be a good feature to implement on the geocaching site. You often see something special, and think, "I wonder if there is a locationless cache for that?"
  11. Is there anyway to actually search locationless caches? You can click on "Also search for [locationless caches]", but this just lists them all, rather than letting you search them, by keyword, for example. bmac.
  12. I personally use the backlight feature on my etrex. Not too bright, but you don't have to carry anything extra
  13. The times when I needed to take evasive action were for hunting out urban caches. Looking for a marker in the middle of a roundabout on a busy road looks suspicious even after explaining what geocaching is. My other experience was that someone was sitting reading about a meter away from where I later found the cache to be.
  14. What are people's favorite ways of avoiding looking suspicious when geocaching with people around? Two ways that I've come up with so far are pretending the GPS is a mobile phone and stand a round talking on it (may not work in areas away from mobile phone coverage), and taking along a camera and pretending to be finding the best angle for the shot (that way people think I'm a crazy photographer rather than just a general crazy person). bmac
  15. I would also like to attend a Qld meet, subject to timing of course.... Brendan.
