  1. Here is a screenshot showing about 7.85 MB of map data for Topo 2008.
  2. IMHO you are correct on both accounts. The second visit, log = note.
  3. Actually a close relative, but a fairly small plant compared to giant hogweed or poison hemlock.
  4. You know, I remember that pic from that thread, and I was heavily leaning towards that not being Giant Hogweed! But since that was the last post, it just sort of drifted off the page. Hey dfx and t4e, see my picture posted above his in the same thread? Buffalo, NY Park about a month ago. Giant Hogweed or no? Giant hogwed flowers are very large, up to a foot across. In our area they eradicate giant hogweed, but don't have the manpower to deal with poison hemlock. There were lots of these plants along this particular stream. Picture link. Edit to add the link is to a picture of giant hogweed.
  5. See my photos in the last post of this topic. It was identified by the parks department as poison hemlock (Conium maculatum of Socrates fame). Also an invasive species from Europe, the sap doesn't cause the same burning/scarring as giant hogweed, but it is poisonous to ingest. This is much more common in our area than giant hogweed, which has very large flowers compared to poison hemlock. Poison hemlock grows to about 6 feet tall and is also in the parsley family.
  6. Did you notify the coin's owner about what happened to his/her coin?
  7. Menu/menu/setup/routing. Set Guidance Method to "Prompted" When you select "Go To" for a geocache you will be prompted to select either "Follow Road" or "Off Road". Select "Off Road" and the Found button will be there.
  8. The eggs will hatch in about 21 days from the time they are laid. At that point the nest will be abandoned and the poults will be free ranging. Do nothing.
  9. It can be done if you really want to take the time and effort - example: mud.
  10. My understanding is that I can use on multiple devices as long as they are registered to me...??? I will check before purchase.... Thanks for the heads up. City Navigator V8 and earlier came with two unlock codes. After that, only one. Topo maps do not need to be unlocked.
  11. 1. I don't believe the Ibycus maps autoroute like Metroguide with Metrowizz. Otherwise, I believe them to be pretty good maps. 2. In Mapsource, use the map tool to select all the segments you wish to transfer from both map sets (go from one map set to the other via the drop down menu). Transfer all the segments as one download to your GPS.
  12. If your compass is pointing at the object while you are stationary and deflects to the side while moving, the compass may need calibrating.
  13. Do you know what species this is? It is hard to tell, but it seems to have a triangular-shaped head and vertical slit pupils like a viper of some sort.

    What about my welcome?
  15. You must use the assigned geocache icon (normally the closed treasure chest) and be in "off road" navigation mode. Go to menu/menu/setup/routing and select "prompted" as the guidance method. Choose "off road" when prompted after selecting " Go To" on the geocache page.
  16. I stewed on this overnight, I generally find TAR's response well thought out and logical. This one, however, made me say, "Huh?". It seems you are saying he should alter his hiding style to suit those in the community that don't make use of the information made available to them. This seems diametrically opposed to your "live and let live" geocaching philosophy.
  17. You don't have to spend your time in either of those places....this covers FORESTRY grounds, had nothing to do with State Game Lands. From what I have seen or experienced, there is alot more caches on State Game Lands than Forestry grounds due to the fact that they didn't need to be approved. I could be wrong, but it doesn't kill geocaching in PA. Are you sure about that? Because we were just about to place a cache on State Game Lands when I stumbled across this discussion, and now we're holding off until we know for sure. I have e-mailed the Game Commission and (of course) received no reply. The fee is for State Parks only. State Forests and Game Lands are not charging the fee at this time. See my post number 12.
  18. Congratulations to both of you! mchaos for going out of your way to obtain written permission. That is truly awesome! brslk, for being man enough to come back and apologize to him. That, too, is awesome!
  19. Working fine here, in Firefox 3.6.3.
  20. This type of hide is a major part of this "problem". Needle-in-a-haystack hides should be left to the parking lots.
