  1. Do you have the S/N of the units? If you don't maybe the store might have them. If you do have the S/N of the units watch E-Bay for them. Most PD do not do much for this type of crime. They do a report then tell you to talk to you insurance co. I had a Garmin GPS III+ stolen from my Jeep TJ I had. The PD told me to talk to my insurance co. They told me to take a flying leap. Both the auto and home. Auto told me the sense it was a add on device they do not cover it and to check with my home insurance co. The home insurance co. told me they will not cover it because it was in the auto. Big #?%& catch 22. It is my understanding the most items stolen end up on E-Bay sooner or later. Watch E-Bay. Have your paperwork on the units. I hope you put the receipt in your pocket and not the bag. Check with your bank. Allot of them offer the same protection for purchases as a credit card, for you debit card. Does it have a Credit card symbol on the card. My has the Master card symbol. If you have to talk take your questions to the bank manager if you have too. I hope this helps. I hope you get this fixed. (I hope you catch the person who did this. I know when I find the person who took my GPS III+ will not like meeting me.) kf4oox - Paul
  2. Going to the form GPS Units and Software you might get some better answers. You can also check out these couple of web sites on paperless cacheing. http://www.geocacher-u.com/resources/paperless.html http://65.34.18.106/content.php?article.15 Now what you can do. I see you are a premium member so you can get Pocket Queries sent to you from Groundspeak on the caches in your area. Then using a program of some sort (I use GSAK myself) I have the program translate the data into a palm data file. Then hotsync your pda to the computer and it will download it to the pda. After the hotsync I run cachemate on the pda to input the data file into its datafile. Once Cachemate reads the file into its data then the caches are available for viewing. On another note. I have databases that I use in GSAK and Cachemate. I have a database for around my home. I have another one for around my brothers house and one for around my cousins house. That also means I have set up Pocket Query to send me a file of caches around these spots. It you have any more questions feel free to contact me. Hope this helps. Paul - kf4oox kf4oox@verizon.net

I have a Palm Z71 witch I got off of Palm on a deal. I also use GSAK (On my PC) and Cachemate on the Palm. You can go to Ebay and get a PDA on the cheap if you watch what you bidding on and the price of it. I hope this helps. kf4oox - Paul

    Paperless

I have gone paperless as well. I got a Palm Z22 off of eBay. It has 24 Meg of Memory and I use Cachemate on the Z22 and GSAK on my PC. I also have gotten other programs for the Z22 and use it now to keep my checkbook and track car gas and maintenance, and the other normal PDA stuff. I do not have any trouble with seeing the display in the daylight. I normally look up the cache on the PDA before I get out of the car. Then the PDA goes into my pocket. This is the way to go. I hope this helps. Paul KF4OOX

  13. I have been reading this thread and it has not been one of the nicer ones. DCNR has decided that ALL geocache are to be open for everyone and not MOC. Keystone put it out as he should. Their are people who are not being nice about this rule. Well Keystone can not do anything about this. IF you do not like this rule then go and contact DCNR it self. Ranting and raving here will not change a thing. Lets use some of the brains that God gave you and take it to the people who can do something about it. I also saw a post about DCNR closing a park for permit deer hunting. Well would anyone want to be in a park with people with hi-powered rifles shooting at deer? I know I would not. So they took SAFETY into account and shut it down for YOUR safety and LIVE. I am shore you would NOT like to be shot. I also saw something about shutting down a park for a road rally. A road rally is a race with vehicles running much speed. Is it safe to be on the same road as these racers and not be in the race. NO. That is why they close this park down. And please note. If someone got hurt in the two above areas then everyone would be gunning for the people who did not take the above action. I have never liked the ideal of MOC's to start with. They are a means of Excluding people not Including people. When you work to Exclude people you are hurting what every you are trying to do. Well that is my $.o2 anyhow. If you have a complaint about DCNR's rules then contact your senator and rep and the head of DCNR and complain to them. They are the ones who can do something. Paul kf4oox
  14. This is a very nice looking coin. I would like a set of these. Please put me down for one I hope you family member kick cancers butt. My Aunt died from cancer many moons ago. So I always enjoy when someone kick cancers butt. I am praying for his health. kf4oox (Paul)
  15. Do you have the latest drivers from Garmin? On my computer it did not see my new Vista C until I got the latest driver from Garmin. Hope this helps kf4oox
  16. I now have 3 GPSr. I have a Garmin GPS III+, Garmin GPS V (the main one) and a Gamin Vista C. I think the V will become my car GPSr and the Vista my handheld one. Paul
  17. Many companies make GPSr now (or put their name on it). Things you have to look for is what that unit does and how it does it. Does it work for you. Does have the functions you want. To me how is support from the company. Many moons ago when I was working and living on Antigua Island I would go out diving with a local dive shop and he had a Magellan GPSr unit on his boat. It was a big white one (model 1000 or something like that) no mapping, no auto routing, just a basic GPSr. But this is when GPSr first came out. We liked that GPSr. It worked great for him. And please note, in a commercial dive operation you do not have the time to be playing hunt and find of the dive spot. You have paying customers on board who want to go diving. Once again this unit did its job. It got us to the dive spots that we wanted to go and had allot of waypoints so we could store all the dive spots. I now own 3 Garmin units and they do what I want of them. I bought a Garmin GPS III when it first came out and the reason why? I like the package. Yep that was it I really like the case form of the Garmin GPS III, III+, & V. That was the reason I bought the GPS III many moons ago. I looked at Magellan and Garmin and picked the GPS III. Now I have purchase more Garmin's and I am used to them and the way Garmin does things. The purchase of a unit is a personal choose. No matter what anyone else here says it comes down to you and what works best for you. I hope this helps. Paul L Hutley kf4oox

  19. Well I hope I am not too late. Email sent for coins. Thanks Paul
  20. Some of this is people move trackables between events. So everyone at the event then logs is a discovered. Also in some areas others are getting into caches and steeling the coins and then selling them on ebay or somewhere else. So now people keep control of the trackable and let them out under supervision at an event. Hope this helps. Paul
  21. The CX units have a slot for a micro SD memory card. Some have a updated receiver chip. With the memory card slot you have almost unlimited memory. You can use upto a 2 GB card. This seems to be the big change for the units. Hope this helps Paul
  22. This is a great Idea. I will go for a pre approval for location. This will let people check if they could then place a cache somewhere then do all the other work and submit it. It would save work on many people including the headaches from rejected people. All they will have to say is that their is something too close and not need to ident a multi stage or anything. I really think this is a grand idea. Paul
  23. How about Erie, Crawford, Lawarence co. ? Paul
