  1. I do not know. I just bough a iPAQ off of Ebay for a good price and still trying to get it set up. You would need the right cable to go from iPAQ to GPSr. Then they should be able to talk to each other. I have not done this but belief it is possible as I hope to be able to do that to load caches into my eTrax Vista C. kf4oox - Paul
  2. Welcome to geocaching. Good luck on finding your 1st cache. Hope youl all enjoy that and find many many more. kf4oox - Paul
  3. I search the PennDOT web site and could not find any thing on Geocache. hope this helps kf4oox - Paul
  4. Spelldog, I live just a little bit south of you in Sharon, Pa. I have seen your new caches being published. I would like to thank you for putting the caches out and keep up the good work on that. I do want to get up and do them but right now it takes more money to fill my tank then what I make in a week. (My work cut my time down to 1 day a week and have not found anything else) So I guess you can say the gas prices ARE affecting my caching. I see you did my 2 caches last week. I am working on a 3rd cache. I just ordered a lock n' lock container for it. I hope to be putting it out in a couple of weeks. So I am trying on the putting out new caches as well. Just takes time. If a cache is in poor shape then you should help out the owner and do what you can for it. You should also post a needs maintenance log for it as well. On Sat me and a couple of other cachers did a cache run and we stopped at a cache that was temp disabled to try to rescue that cache. (it had fallen and could not get up again) But we could not get it out. We logged our attempt to help the owner. I did get an email back thanking us for the attempt. I have come across some caches in poor shape. I put the information in the log for the owner to act on. Owners can not get to their caches everyday. (well one of mine I can, all I have to do is look out my window and I see it) But their are people who get into the game and then drop out after a while. Leaving their placed caches in place. They slowly decay and their is no response from the owner. I see new caches being put out every week. I see the notify emails many times a week. I do not have any numbers but have seen plenty put out. I think Keystone has a better view on the numbers than I. I know a cacher who has a couple thousand finds and has cleaned out a good 40 mile area around his home and he still goes out a couple times a week to find new caches local to him. Now that spring has sprung I think we will be seeing more new caches being placed. I also think more people will be going out and finding caches. I think you have started a good topic. Their is lots of conversation on it. Also you live in Crawford Co. in witch Allegheny GeoTrail (AGT), a publicly funded project, is active. I do not think their is any other project like this int he US. Hopefully other areas can follow the AGT model and do the same thing. I hope this helps. kf4oox - Paul
  5. The EXTINGUISHER I was thinking of bringing out the Engine and laying a supply line and letting go with the deck gun as no mere extinguisher can put this thread out. Now to the on topic stuff. I pay my $3 a month for premium membership and use GSAK and Findstatgen. Once GSAK is loaded you can just keep it up todate and it works. Just need to get the PQ's to load it up and then load all the new ones. I hope this helps Now where did I put that Fire Engine? kf4oox - Paul Edit for spelling
  6. .3 mile. It is a cache I am having problems with. Just can not find it . I just may get out the big fix it hammer and work the area over to find it. kf400x - Paul
  7. I just saw where the cache in question was archived. I DO not belief their was any agenda in that cache page. Just a parent proud of what her children are doing. Now Keystone said it was "support our troops" that is casing the problem. A search for support out troops find 16 caches. With support our troops in the name. Last one published in Aug of 2007. A search for support the troops finds 4 caches with the last one published in Jan 2008. These are active caches and not archived. This cache was singled out. IMHO. If you are going to enforce something it HAS to be 100% across the board NOT just 1 cache. It has to affect all 100% of the caches. I expect all caches with "support our troops" or "support the troops" to be archived as they are an agenda, and this one was archived for the this problem. I find this to be very deplorable on this site. What s going on in Iraq and etc I will not comment on. But for the people over their they need our support. Some of my families history in the military. My oldest uncle was in the Army in WWII. He had many Silver Stars, Bronze Stars and many other medals. He was nominated for the Medal of Honer by General Omar Bradley for June 6th 1944. My uncle was shot in the foot by a German snipper while trying to help a wounded German army man. My other uncle was in the Koren War. He went to collage on the veterans bill. My brother was in Desert Storm via USMC. My other brother is in the USAF right now and over their right now. I may or may not agree with what the government is doing but I do support the troops over their. Well that is my 2 cents worth anyhow. Paul - KF4OOX
  8. If you want me to I can drop some in Western Pa / Eastern Oh. If you have any left. Thanks kf4oox - Paul

  11. Sorry double post. Please disregard. kf4oox - Paul
  12. You know he is probably right in that Dallas does have traffic engineers. They would know of any type of program like you are looking for and may even welcome the help in data gathering. On the other had. I do not know of any type of program like you are looking for. Does not mean their are not out their just that I do not know of them. I do not know what GPSr you have. If you have Garmin you can use Mapsource to get the tracks off of your GPSr and then you can look at them. I do not think you can tell how long each red light took you but you can see how long the total track is. Hope this helps. kf4oox - Paul
  13. Yes this looks to be a nice looking geocoin. Will be looking for it in the near future. kf4oox - Paul
  14. I also have a Z22 w/Cachemate. I have GSAK on my computer and download from GSAK to Cachemate. Works great. The Z22 has lots of memory for this. Cachemate does not take up that much memory. Tha down side is the Z22 is hard to read in direct sunlight. I normally park the car and look up the cache page on cachemate. Then go to the cache. I hope this helps. kf4oox - Paul
  15. Look at the price of the other ones. Their are 4 of these coins on ebay. 3 are going for >17.00 starting price. So someone thinks they can make much money off of the sale. So the answer to your question is GREED. kf4oox - Paul
  16. Got my geocoin today and it looks great. Thanks for such a good looking coin. Keep up the good work. kf4oox - Paul
  17. With the PQ's you can let the web-site filter some of the data as it makes them. (Like eliminating your finds, or types of caches you do not want to do) even with GSAK you can do that but it takes you time to do it. Also what about people like me who live just about in another state? I live in PA by 2 blocks. I cache in 2 states (PA, OH). That means we would have to do it twice to get the data we want. It now takes me 1 PQ to get the area around me. One the other hand it would be nice to be able to get a whole state. As I do maintain a few data sets in PA. I have a set around my home, I have a set around Marienville (I like to go to the National Forest) I also have a set around my brothers house in Harrisburg. So having a full state would make it easer on me for this. I think an optional PQ for a full state would be nice with the PQ filters applied. Maybe able to get one a week for a state upto 5 states a week would be nice. Well my $.02 anyhow. kf4oox - Paul
  18. This looks to be a GREAT coin. I want ALL of them, Oh NO bank account says NO to all but then I guess will have to be satisfied with one. Nasty bank account lets me have no fun. Will be looking for the sale link. kf4oox - Paul
  19. Alright who wrote this Oh wait a minute this is too good for a writer to write. Boy what a story this is. I am very happy for everyone this worked out for you. And what a plot twist at the end. Just goes to show you that their is NOTHING like real life kf4oox - Paul
  20. I wish I had the money for a set or two of these coins. They look to be very nice looking. But cash flow is not their to allow me to get these. (My job cut me down to 1 day a week and I have not found anything else yet). kf4oox - Paul
  21. Yes i am interested. A very nice looking coin. Let me know when you are taken orders for it. Thanks kf4oox - Paul Volunteer FF. (One set of customer for the 911 center).
  22. I agree with Kit Fox. It is the cache owners responsibility to maintain his cache NOT the finders. It is nice that the finders have paper with them to add to the log if needed or do some other MINOR maintenance to the cache. It is not required of the finders. kf4oox - Paul
  23. Did you check the day it is suppose to run on? kf4oox - Paul

  25. Does not sound like the defendant called in experts on the GPS system to support his position. Then the judge would only have information on the RADAR system. Their for he ruled in favor of the RADAR system (I am being very general here) because he knows what that system does. This sounds like it was not even a trial just a hearing to determine if it is worth it or not. So lets see what happens at trial (if their is one). The RADAR system tracks the Doppler change from the speed of the target. It generates the speed from the freq. offset of the return pulse. (big thing is what vehicle is it tracking?) Many GPSr give speed accuracy as .1 MPH. But this is updated at a 1/sec rate. On another note: I had a friend coming back from a family get together when he got stop via SP for speeding. The trooper said he was doing 93 MPH in a 65. My friend told the trooper that he was doing 70 MPH and not 93 MPH but the Semi passing him was really fast and most likely doing the 93 MPH. Trooper told him to take it to court. He did. Later in the District Justice He told what happen and said he also had a GPSr w/accuracy of .1 MPH saying he was doing 70 MPH and he would take and pay for a 70 MPH ticket. That he was being passed by a semi doing 90+ MPH when the trooper came after him. He then told them that the RADAR picks the biggest target and that was the semi. The DJ asked him if he was an expert in RADAR. He said no but he has a friend who is and is their. His friend at the time works on fixing RADAR systems. My friend also produced witness that their was a semi moving at a very hi rate of speed. The DJ then dismissed the the information provided said he was not going 93MPH but a semi was and that, that was what the RADAR had picked up on. The DJ did order the trooper to write a warning for 70 MPH. So sometimes it does work the way it is suppose to. kf4oox - Paul
