  1. Loaded the firmware upgrade onto two units. No problems. Thanks for the new, improved firmware Magellan. My question is about the new projection feature found in the advanced features. Exactly what is it for? The shortest distance you can enter is 52.8 feet. Is it for establishing lat and longs for a new point from your position? With a minimum of 52.8 feet, how does this help the geocacher? What is this for, and how do you use it? Anybody?
  2. I have two 600's I'd give them a 4.5 I have experienced some of the same transfer problems, but I was able to get them loaded and running again. I'm hoping for an update, as there is truly room for improvement. I've used many types of receivers and have owned several handhelds of various manufactor. These lock on and seem to hold lock well. The extra stuff in them? I don't use that much. The compass works well for me when I'm not in a vehicle. I like it better than my old Garmin and Lowrance units.
  3. What day was that happening? We've been having some really strong solar storms for about a week. That alone will cause weird things to happen to your GPSr. When I use my Leica survey grade GPS, I check the solar weather websites. If there is alot of solar activity we pack it in. Lightning storms within a 100 miles can cause accuracy problems too. Try this site out: http://www.n3kl.org/sun/status.html or my favorite, http://www.sec.noaa.gov/today.html I guess if it were me I wouldn't be setting out any caches during these periods and finding them could be an exercise in futility. By the way, the manufacturers say that GPS is all weather, and they are as long as they are waterproof. Other than as the previously stated lightning problems overpowering the signal and causing signal degradation, a little rain isn't going to hurt anything. So if you are having problems with lock and location, check out the solar activity, it may be the problem. I check it everyday before I use my survey GPS. Saves me time and fustration. Mapper Mark
  4. I'll give that one a try. Thank you Robert Mapper Mark
  5. As a surveyor, I have developed many control points with GPS. Utilizing Survey grade equipment. I would like to enter many of these with their Lats and Longs into a file for uploading into two Explorist 600s for use by some of our personel to locate these GPS control points. I have tried to open one of the POI files and it is all machine code. Is there any way to do this without having to turn them into geocache points? I don't need alot of the stuff that GSAK asks for. I thought I read in the explorist literature that they would recognise ascii files, but the one I opened up was machine code. Mapper Mark
  6. I use em too. They work well, just remember to use plenty of water when installing. The film should just about float above the screen to position. When you get it sitting right then hold it in place and use a paper towel to pull the water off. Good product, I'll use again.
  7. It could be the solor geomagnetic storms we were having around then. I use survey grade receivers (leica) in my work and GPSrs act that way when we are having solor events. Check the Space weather site or N3KL.org site to see. www.sec.noaa.gov/today.html is the space weather site
