  1. I found a place that sells those pelican super boxes that are almost crush proof & submergeable to 30m! They would make the ULTIMATE cache container!!
  2. I'm ALL FOR IT! I can list a couple of places where one MAY be able to find some rhodonite without being shot at & I would LOVE to know some other places I could go to "scratch a patch" myself
  3. I'm suprised this hasn't been done already! List stores that sell geocaching stuff! I'm equally suprised how difficult it is to actually locate a physical store that sells anything (other than GPSr's) specifically related to geocaching! This is a no brainer & should get 100'% approval! The Capitol Iron in Victoria B.C. used to sell travel bug tags but stopped because they claimed it "wasn't economical"!!! Maybe if more people knew they sold TB tags, they would have made more sales!
  4. Oh Ya baby!! Nothing compliments a cache outing like a large double double!!!
  5. Yes, i've seen the same thing on WAP. At first, I thought it was someone leaving an encrypted log entry but then the next log was also scrambled! When I got home & checked the same listing on the MIE browser none of the entries were encrypted!
  6. I'm sitting on an awesome idea for a locationless too! I'm ready to pounce when the new solution is available so I get to be "the one who thought of that awesome reverse virtual!" I bet someone else knows about it who's a cacher but they may never have thought to make a cache out of it but it's simply way too awesome to pass up! Not every cacher would be able to log a find for it because a photo would be required but it will be something that any cacher anywhere will be able to do & will enjoy learning about regardless! I think it was Mtn-Man that told me the new feature would be intro'd to premo members first (after the admins are done having their fun with it I guess) I just got my premo account activated last week so now i'm jonesin too!!!
  7. Hmmm, I should seriously consider contributing to this request... Decked out with GPSr, cellphone & headset, Laptop with wi-fi, GMRS radio, compass, scientific calculator & laser range finder enough? How does one properly insert a photo into a forum post?
  8. IMO there are too many tiles in the matrix & there are some indescriminate tiles as well that would frustrate the HELL outta me & I have a 140 I.Q.!
  9. TeddyCool, My Samsung A600 has an arbitrary maximum input length of 160 characters in standard text fields on the browser. This is the same limit set for SMS text message inputs... To save a few extra bytes of code, Samsung uses the same firmware routine that the SMS text message application uses to call the text input field when it converts a text input field from a web site. All phones are different. The only way around the limit in my phone is for the web site to call for a Java function instead. In that case the maximum input is usually a binary multiple (128, 256, 512 etc.) 512 char is the largest input field I have personally seen generated by J2ME using the WAP2 protocol. I'm not sure if there's a set limit. Sounds like the firmware in your phone may have a byte limit set for text input instead of a capped field? Any input exceeding the byte length results in an error. I suggest waiting for a little while until the next generation of browser enabled phones come out using the 3G system. This is BIG in Europe right now!!!
  10. All I can say is that I own a Samsung A600 on Bell Canada 1X network, it is WAP2 enabled & I have had no significant problems using the WAP site so far... Sorry to be of little or no help with your (rather specific) issue...
  11. I've also seen FTFT a couple of times & have come to believe it means "First To Find This" Also TFTC "Thanks For The Cache" or how about FFTF "First First To Find"... isn't that like a double negative or something???
  12. Don't feel bad! I had the same problem... Figured it out the same way aslo
  13. One thing about the bright colors for TB tags... I tried anodizing two copy tags that Geowelch so kindly donated for me to test. The bad news is the alloy used to make the current tags is unsuitable for anodizing due to the many other metallic components in it that aren't aluminum If the new tags are made using an alloy that is more pure aluminum then there is still hope for getting those "funky bright colors"... Unfortunately, I doubt this will happen since alloys that are more pure are more expensive also. ... and I was Sooooo looking forward to releasing some custom TB tags too... oh-well M.D.
  14. Here's how to turn this: N48* 26.092' into THIS: N48º 26.092' (if you are using a Win PC) Type "N48" then hold the "Alt" key & type 0186 (that's Zero-One-Eight-Six) Let go of the "Alt' key & the degree symbol appears! It works with almost all standard Windows fonts & many other symbols too! Here's a link that explains it... <http://www.compukiss.com/sandyclassroom/tutorials/article751.htm>
  15. Do you have to be a premium member to have your avatar work on here???
  16. Just testing my Avatar, for some reason it didn't post last time...
  17. Cool! Worked on my loaner LG-TM250 with Bell Canada 1X network Can't wait 'til I get my Samsung SPH-A600 back now so I can try it for real! One thing I noticed is that some non-alphabet characters appeared as "?" I'll see if it does this on my A600 when I get it back (hopefully soon!) I've been thinking for awhile that it would be a great idea to have a WAP version of the site for those embarassing moments in the field when you realize you forgot or brought the wrong printout or messed up the waypoint in your GPSr etc... I actually came here to suggest that a WAP version should be considered but since common sense actually prevailed here without my intervention I will leave saying: "Great idea! I'm glad I thought of it."
  18. I'm off to the British Columbia Interior to visit familly, do some caching & maybe pick some morel mushrooms. I'll be back on Tuesday May 16th. Hopefully there will be a couple TB tags waiting for me when I get back so I can find out how they look after being anodized. Can't wait!
  19. Welch is sending me two of his copy tags so when I get them I will post before & after pics of how they look. I can't wait to see how it turns out. Should be cool! After closer inspection of a TB tag currently in my possesion, I have determined that there is indeed a shallow inlay where the ink is deposited on the tag. This makes some sense because the whole tag could be inked then resurfaced, leaving the ink in the recessed areas only. Take a tag that you have & rub you finger nail along an area where the text is printed & you will see what I mean. Well, all will be revealed when I get my hands on one I can test anyway. We'll just have to wait & see... Could be the next big craze with TB tags???
  20. Place a bait cache with a few TB's in it in an area that can be "bugged" (pardon the pun) with a camera on an infrared trigger so it will snap photo's of whomever approaches it. if the cam catches images of the guy vandalizing or stealing TB's then you have proof he is behind both of the hanous crimes & technically he can be busted but only if he's breaking an actual law & I don't think there are any laws on the books pertaining specifically to this type of behavior in relation to caching. and that's my Cdn.$0.02 worth!
  21. Giving your TB tags a "new look"... I am quite proficient in the art of aluminum anodizing. This is the process by which a layer of crystaline aluminum oxide is "grown" on the surface of the metal by electrolysis. This would give your TB tag a corrosion resistant finish which can be dyed to almost any color imaginable! I developed my process while employed doing R&D for a company that needed their aluminum RF welding dies to last longer & have better dielectric properties. As applied to TB tags, this process can make your TB tag really stand out by giving it a custom colored finish that will not wear off unless it's very abused. Since aluminum is a soft metal, nothing will save it if it's been mistreated... Caribiners are often given this "type II" anodized finished to improve their resistance to the elements & color code them for load rating or ID purposes. Good quality MAGLITE flashlights usually have an anodized finish as well. The only drawback to doing this process would be that all of the black pigment in the text area of the tag would be removed, leaving you with only the depressions where the text & designs were stamped in. IMO the tags would still be readable & unless someone can think of a reason why this would ruin the TB I would be glad to put my skills to good use customizing TB tags for those who are interested... Shoot me an email & tell me your thoughts on this. Matrix_Azaleph@hotmail.com When I get a TB tag of my own or get permission from a tag owner to do this to theirs (free of charge for the "experiment" of course) I will post the results. Thanks!
