  1. Maybe the Android app works different than the iPhone app but although one can pre-download PQs into the application (one of the nicer features) it still seems to want to load additional data from the server and map data needs to be downloaded if one attempts to navigate using the maps. When I've tried to navigate by compass this morning it's telling me that the destination coordinates are 000 00.000 000 00.000 and 5526 miles away. That's *with* data turned on. It might be worth trying to download some local PQs before going, then turn off data and see if you can navigate to a cache just using the compass screen. Obviously, a handheld dedicated GPS wouldn't have these data issues. On the android phone you can go into "airplane mode" which will shut down all wireless connections. Then just open geobeagle and select the pocket query your would like to run. I did it when I went to Alaska and it worked great. (although at one point I did turn on wireless and got slammed with a huge bill after entering some logs...) Geobeagle will work fine, but you won't be able to use maps without data, just the radar/compass of your Hero.
  2. I'm using a Etrex Vista C (old, but still works great). I also have a Samsung Moment (Android). I like c:geo, but if you're out of cell range you're hosed. I've started using Geobeagle and just upload my PQs to bcaching.com and then sync with Geobeagle. That way I can still use it without cell service once it's synced. I typically use my Etrex though, and just use the Moment to read the details. Let's me go paperless with a lesser GPSr. My lovely girlfriend, uses her EVO 4G. That GPS is pin-point accurate, it's sick.
  3. We always bring our dog. We're always just walking him if anyone takes notice. The dog is also good for roadside stops. Just looks like he needs a pit stop.
  4. If you're using a Garmin device, even as a basic member, you can still DL multiple caches in a .loc file, open the .loc file in Mapsource and upload all the WPs to your device at one time. As for the radar, that's a mobile OS feature and not the Garmin. Use the electronic compass.
  5. Noticed that you are changing the file type. Mapsource opens .loc files just fine. Which version are you using? Have you upgraded from Garmin.com?
  6. I didn't know that was how folks could change it... hummm. But that makes sense to me. *edit for odd typos/grammer. Pretty easy to change in your GC.com profile settings. Have fun!
  7. I don't use the nub-phone, but I do use my Samsung Moment with cGeo. I use the phone to log finds, and find additional caches in an area. I use the my Etrex Vista C to actually find the caches though. Better battery life, better GPS and all of my caches are saved in the GPS unit so I can sync with my Mapsource Software to keep an updated personal log.
