  1. See, now not to beat an old horse - but this is what I meant (in a previous post) by people selling used units for more than one can get them BRAND SPANKIN' NEW - just darn unethical IMHO - -
  2. It's already said above: because Garmin makes a number of product lines. V was a automotive device, 60 is an outdoors device. They want you to buy several receivers for different purposes, so they don't give you everything in one machine. But, for me it was good, because I have a V and I hadn't noticed the Detour function! Now I know it I can use it! Thanks (and sorry for not being of any help to you) I maintain the V & 60c & until a month ago; TWO V's However, as far as the auto re-routing (on the 60c vs the V)... the incredible difference in speed is so much better in terms of DRIVING - I use both of them in both the field & road DAILY..... Glad I opened another avenue for you, no pun intended
  3. No, I'm not referring to the recalculate - I mean an actual OPTION for DETOUR - - If I had the time this morning, I'd post a screenshot of my V offering such. Thanks anyway!!!! I didn't notice this until you mentioned it. I don't have my 60csx yet (still coming in the mail) but I checked the manual and it doesn't have an entry for detour in the index. The Quest has it as does the nuvi and the SP series. The GPS V definitely had it since I used it often. I'm really, really not happy it's not in the 60csx considering it's suppose to replace my stolen GPS V. I could go without the parachute jumping feature on the 60csx if it meant something had to go in order for the detour to have a place. I know! Again, I wonder WHY????
  4. No, I'm not referring to the recalculate - I mean an actual OPTION for DETOUR - - If I had the time this morning, I'd post a screenshot of my V offering such. Thanks anyway!!!!
  5. yea - you could, but the actual OPTION was nice
  6. Could this be because the V was MORE aimed toward driving than the 60/76 series??? HMMMM
  7. I have found the best prices on ShipDog.com - But a fellow member pointed me to a shop in Ill. (I think that;ll match or beat a web price. No Tax, No Shipping - got my 60c for 309.00!!!!
  8. My 60c marks the time, date & has a spot for notes as well (When marked from the unit that is)
  9. I was quite surprised to NOT find a DETOUR option while navigating to a location (by auto) with my 60c the other day... I used this function for years on my GPSV & loved it - it [V], would offer me a 1, 2, 3, etc mile detour in the event I ran into construction, congestion or an accident... Anyone know WHY this was eleiminated, or have I just NOT got to it in my "bathroom reading" of the manual yet.. I've noticed some features like hitting the FIND button twice brings up recent finds immediately but isn't documented (I think) - - is there a shortcut to this detour option? Anyone else notice or miss this as well????? Thanks
  10. Well, I hope its b/c of the newer models, but with all due respect Deerhunter... I wouldn't go by what the Walmart guy says (unless you know him) - my children know more about GPS than most of the people working at the counters there.... EDIT: at least in the the 3 Walmarts I've frequented.......
  11. Grew tired after reading 3/4 of these posts - My 2 cents: Totally true, period. With regard to selling something (here) at a higher than market bearing price... Yes, a PM is the appropriate way to communicate this to the Unsuspecting Seller.... Be advised tho, IMO; there is nothing wrong with being alerted when you do this - I am a man of character and if something happens in my presence which I feel is unjust , I will speak on it & continue to do so each & every time until my ability or right to do so no longer exists. If more people stepped in when they noticed something "wasn't right", there would be alot less suffering and consequences in the world.
  12. It could be the prefrences in your unit... whether or not you are set to travel by car/motorcycle, truck or foot as well as faster time or shorter distance AND what the default method good, better, best is - or a combination of the above [that] you have set for calculation will: determine your bearing, travel, detours, streets vs roads, sidestreets vs highways, etc. hence, yes - this can differ from what you looked at on the PC.. Also - did you PLAN a ROUTE? and dowload the ROUTE? Yes, thats definately possible - I can't attest to the exact geographic changes in 7 since mine hasn't arrived yet, but I know for a fact that happens. I've seen it 1st hand. I've just learned of a 3 million dollar revamping of the on/off ramps for I-95 is taking place in Phila., Thank godness I'm familiar with this neighboring section of PA - who knows how long before CitySelect catches up to something like the REMOVAL and addition of entance & exit ramps to major highways...
  13. I agree - and am adamant about the whole big brother thing!! I would take advantage of it if it were offered as an "option" a little earlier in this thread..... I said: Peter, thanks for the convo - I learned some things.
  14. Yes, it's clear you haven't thought through what circuitry/firmware would be required in the unit and what external infrastructure support would be needed to make it useful. Peter, Our local vet has told us of a gps implant now available for dogs - he said its about the size of or smaller than a quarter. Couldn't something like this be added to or incorporated into the housing of our gpsr? without the expensive incorporations you reference?
  15. How much extra would you be willing to pay just for this 'find lost unit' feature? Keep in mind that it would only be useful in the event that 1) you realized that the first unit was missing while you're still in range, 2) you do this before the battery runs down, 3) the lost unit has its receiver turned on, and 4) that you have a corresponding tracking unit available with which to find it. Yes - what I meant was perhaps a constant beacon-like signal similar to that on rescue gps that activated whenever the unit was on and ran off the same power that the unit itself did. Maybe if there was a function available to deactivate the transmission of the [beacon-like] signal each time you powered the unit on? Similar to that on most cell phones Most cell phones GPS have either LOCATION or E911ONLY GPS functionality. Would I mind spending a small monthly fee for this option? no Would I mind having to hit a button or two when I powered my unit on (password protected) to disable the "signal"? no What if the beacon was powered by a lithium cell that would last quite long especially if the "function" was turned off on power-up. Maybe I'd change the lithium every 9 months???? Would I like the abiliity to find my GPS if it were lost or stolen? Yes Is this possible? I'm sure it is What if I lost the GPS while it was turned off? Well, unless someone found it and turned it on, It would be gone! BUT, if someone found, turned it on or a theif - turned it on - it would transmit the signal & maybe I or GARMIN could log into a site & narrow its position. I'm sure this is possible Peter - This is all (of course) conjecture & speculation.
  16. I doubt it..... But what do you have to lose.. I never discourage Stranger things have happened.
  17. Hope this helps another user with a similar problem - if they read this far down the thread I've been through all this - including re-registering a second-hand unit to me instead of the original owner. You simply need to use your original COUPON code, which thereafter, serves as your registration code and accordingly, is used to log in as a "returning customer" & identify you with all units, software and available unlock codes entitled you.
  18. He can say that & it'll fly.. The problem though - Is that it will essentially [then] be registered to another person - which can lead to problems later on..
  19. Hey, have you tried their MapCard.com???? They offer: interesting , eh? =================== edit: Little addendum here people: When clicking on this image which CLEARLY suggests a FREE TRIAL... I am ONLY asked to BUY the product ?!?!?! WHAT is up with that? Nice marketing ploy, huh? See what I meant by the unflattering business side of things???
  20. Hey MaGic, I beleive that to be true. I would love to have a set of those as I spend considerable time in deep woods - especially w/ my younger son. They are simply out of my price range. What I was eluding to was the ability to literally home in on a stolen and / or lost navigation unit. I'm kinda surprised this hasn't been offered [at least] as an option considering the financial (and emotional) attachments we have to these things?!?! Looking at it from a business sense (which is often unflattering)... - it works out better for Garmin if the dedicated user rushes right out & BUY$ another unit, right? Of course I'm right.
  21. I'm glad all seems to have turned out for the better - even tho you were compelled to upgrade. I too am gulity of leaving my GPS in the truck often - many times overnight. I would die!!! As I use my GPS's (GPSV & GPSMAP 60c) every single day between 3 to 9 hours at a clip! I, for the past 7 years live in a small suburban town where I've (many times) been amazed to find something I left out still there & intact. A few times I left the garage door open all night - which houses a classic sport racing bike, etc.... My Mom tells me of days when this was the norm & the majority of "people" were in fact honest. Those days are gone - sadly & it pisses me off to have such a reality check via this forum. Shame on me I guess... for sitting in my comfort zone. It would be wonderful if Garmin offered (maybe as an option) to include a reverse tracking feature which can be activated on request similar to LoJack for vehicles. This would help many a stressed geocacher who misplaced / dropped their unit as well as victims of theft. Enjoy your new unit.
  22. Looking to pick one up for less than I can get it off the net. Aftermarket is okay, Garmin is better.
  23. Interested in selling the suction mount?
