  1. I have been using an iphone 3GS and bought a GC today at Target. I did the update which was easy and loaded a few caches. I couldn't get it to work with my Mac so had to use my old PC. I need to spend a little more time with it to be sure but I think I like it much better than my iphone. I took both over to the closest cache and they both took me to about three feet of it. But the GC updates quicker. I really like the buttons on the GC. With the iphone I'm constantly having to use both hands to adjust the map. With the the GC, I can drive and work it at the same time easily. One of the biggest reasons I didn't want the GC was because it didn't have a real compass. I'm glad I listened to reviews because this really isn't an issue for me. It only takes a couple of steps of movement for the compass to right itself. It feels sturdy and looks really waterproof. I'll be glad to leave my iphone in my pocket. So far I'm really happy with my purchase. I had considered an Oregon 450 but this is really all I need without the hassle and extra money spent.
  2. I felt and did the same. I don't think I need all the bells and whistles yet. The GC seems to provide everything I need without the hassle. The Target deal got to me and I too picked one up. My Iphone 3GS has worked OK but I want something with longer battery and is more durable. Hopefully we'll have good luck with these.
  3. I'm in the same boat. I've started with my Iphone 3GS and it has worked fine for most caches but I'm wanting something that will work out in the woods too.
  4. So these were $250? I'd love to find one for that price.
  5. I've just started geocaching with just 14 finds under my belt but so far I haven't had any trouble using my iphone 3GS. It has always got me within 10-20 feet at least. My wife has the newer iphone 4 and it is even better. For those times I'm out of cell service I've just saved the cache map. Maybe when I go on longer caches will I need to get a GPS to use functions like bread crumbs.
