  1. My experience exactly. We need to keep encouraging GS as I have every confidence that they will get it right. I know that they are working on it. For me, for the time being, I am using "that other one" !!!!!!!!!!
  2. I wanted to place a cache that was part of a series that was to be within 50ft of a "non container" WP for someone else's Multi. Our reviewer applied the principle quoted above. and approved my placement. I thought that very reasonable and within the Rules.
  3. Some screen shots. This as far as I can get with ver 2.0.1 using a Garmin Asus A10 This and then this when I use the "Find Nearby Caches" and I'm stuck there !!!!!!!!
  4. I have recently installed the GC latest version (2.0.1) and it is not working. I am logged on to the GC site but when I set the programme to "Find Nearby" I just get the message "Searching for Geocaches" then after some time "Failed to connect to Geocaching.com" in spite of the fact that I am logged on. My device is a Garmin Asus A10 (Nuvifone A10). I also have the c.geo app installed and that one is working as expected . The previous version of the official app was working properly for me. It is frustrating to have one I paid for not to be working and a free one functioning properly. I have been in communication with the GC technical people and they assure me that a fix is not too far away (in time). Got my fingers crossed.
  5. And the collection I was taking around Southland, NZ. They were all placed in caches on this day out, or shortly thereafter.
  6. I had this TB with me on a few trips and it visited a number of caches in the South Island NZ. The TB is 1SDAsweetpea's geofish. The TB owner emailed me asking "What is a gumboot" so I took a photo of the TB sitting on a gumboot by the Clutha River. This is about 100m from our house. Drop in and see us some time?
  7. I am using a Garmin Ausus A10. It worked perfectly with the previous version. With ver 2 I get logged onto GC.com properly with my user name showing me as logged in however I can't get the "nearest" feature to work. All I get is an almost blank screen with just "more" in the top left hand corner. Clicking on "more" doesn't do anything. What can I try next? Uninstall and try reinstalling ? Going back somehow to the previous version ? Do nothing but use c.geo (dirty word ?) the latest version of which is working and doing what I expect ? Jim
  8. I have started filling my cache pages with this background - brilliant !!!!!!!!!!!!!! Jim
  9. Hi, Would I be able to get access to this builder. I have had some experience with Wherigo building have just recently had one published. I have been using the GS builder but find that it has limitations, particularly some math functions that I would like to be able to use in my next build. I am a PM with almost 500 finds and almost 100 hides of various types. Jim
  10. I find that my best "fixes" are if I find my hiding place, place the Oregon on or very near to it and leave it there for about 10 minutes without marking the coordinates. After the approx. 10 mins I press "mark' give the WP a name and then do the averaging thing. This allows the GPSr time to get a good fix on the satelites, to settle down. As for finding the hides when first arriving at the GPSr GZ if the hiding place is not obvious I try and do some sort of circumnavigation to establish the most likely area to search in. Then I don't let the device confuse me further. Turned off an in a pocket is good. You can't beat eyes, hands and, sometimes, hands and knees for this job. Also looking up or down. Pretty fundamental eh?. Sometimes they are down the bank you are standing on or up that tree you are standing under. It's all good fun and why we do it. The thrill of making a find when after getting totally frustrated you get an Ah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! moment. Good hiding and seeking all. Jim
  11. Thanks, Seems to have come right now. It was very frustrating at the time. Almost as bad as getting divorced!, I think though I haven't tried that, just been threatened a few times when I spend too much time (her says) on the computer.
  12. Hi, Something seems wrong. All of a sudden it is taking what seems like an eternity to download the initial page on Geocaching.com. I am able to log in and I am told that I am logged in but I still have to wait ages before the full page shows up. I've tried using the "refresh" thing and the cirle arrow thing runs and runs and runs!!! eventually everything shows up and I am then able to to access all of the facilities. Can anyone help Please. Jim
  13. I have just uploaded the latest Geocaching.com version 1.1.3 and the problem that I am getting is that it will no longer log onto the Geocaching.com site. Is there anyone out there who has a solution to this problem? Jim
  14. Hi, I’ve just started to build my first Wherigo cartridge. There are still a number of things I need to find out how to do. I found it very easy to set up zones as active/visible. What I can't seem to be able to do is make them inactive/invisible when the player exits each zone. Also I want to have some player input in the nature of a question with a check on with a true/false loop. I guess I need to load up 10 variables with the numbers 0 - 9 then have the input at the zones checked against the value that I have predetermined. Can anyone help? Jim
  15. Thanks for the replies. It came right, eventually. What really puzzled me most was the fact that all of the other redirections worked perfectly. Must have been some gremlins about. Haven't tried today, will in a moment. Jim
  16. Hi, Is there any reason for the current situation where I am unable to access this feature on Geocaching.com? All of the other accesses are fine Jim
  17. Hi, I own an Android (Garmin Ausus A10). I bought the geocaching app from Geocaching.com. The version is showing as v1.0.3. All the posts now seem to be about v1.1. How do I upgrade to the latest version, presuming I want to given some of the problems that seem to have occured? Thanks, Jim
  18. Practically any Android phone will do what you're asking Thanks for your replies. I will be able to check it out this coming Friday. Jim
  19. ?? Might want to check with NZT to have them verify that. While the pre-release stories on the product (and the early Garmin specification) talked about 1.6, all of the recent (post-release) reviews of the product all refer to it as a 2.1 device. I am going to be able to have a "hands on" check of one this coming Friday. I am building up a biggish list of questions. The need to upgrade my current mobile devise is imminent. What I am thinking/hoping is that A10 might be able to provide a number of functions for me. I use a Navman (S30) for "on the road" navigation and an Oregon 450 for geocaching "in the field". The S30 is very limited; I can't download geocaches or tracks onto it but manual entry of street addresses, street intersections is easy if time consuming. The maps and voice directions work well. What I am hoping for is a tool that does all of the cell phone things (voice calls, texting etc) plus voice prompted street navigation and the capacity to down load gpx files with the geocaches showing up as I drive along and the capacity to navigate to them. I can see me still having a use for my "Oregon". Any comments or ideas welcomed. Jim
  20. The Garmin Asus A10 is described as running on 1.6. That's the one available in New Zealand through Telecom. Jim
  21. Thanks for the advice. Thats where I will go next. Jim
  22. Hi, Has anyone out there got any knowledge about the use of the Garmin Asus A10 as a geocaching device? I've tried to find out as much as I can via Google etc and that hasn't been much I need to know if I can download PQs and also load on coordinates. At the moment I am tring to get the information from Garmin but no luck yet. In anticipation, thanks. Jim
