Bump! Dean -
I am selling my used Garmin Legend C. The unit is in excellent condition, works like new, and there are no scratches on the screen. It will be shipped in the original box, and includes the manual, quick start guide, lanyard, USB cable, and the trip and waypoint manager CD (i.e., all of the contents of a new one). I am also including the Garmin bicycle mount, which is about $20 if you buy it new and have it shipped. I can e-mail a picture. Just ask. dcbd@earthlink.net Shipping should be $8-10 plus insurance if desired. I can take PayPal. If you want to buy it through e-bay, I can list it as a buy it now item. My e-bay name is Flakarter. Thanks. Dean

You know, I lost track of my original post on this topic, and continued to live with my spinning cursor. Until, that is, I checked back to see if I had missed something. And low and behold I did. Going to Main Menu>Setup>Marine, and then setting the "Speed Filter" to "Auto" did the trick! No more spinning, regardless of what the other settings are! Thanks to all who contributed! Dean

Thanks for that last post. Note that my old Legend (grey screen) never spun like a top when still; and it happens while there is a lock on 5+ sats. So I don't see it as a weak signal problem, and my old Legend didn't do this, that I recall. I believe it's s firmware problem. Dean

Anyone else have this problem, or perhaps a solution? Thanks! Dean

I checked my unit, and it has 2.50, but the arrow on the screen still spins around while you are at a standstill. Thanks for the thoughts. Dean

Mine does the same thing, and changing the tracking didn't help. I'm stumped. My B&W legend never did this. It really is irritating, so I feel your pain. I called Garmin about it and they had never heard of the problem. Hmm. I took a small video of it to send to Garmin but the video was too large to e-mail, even a short clip. Dean

Or..... get the much better color screen on the Legend C, and walk a couple of feet until the Legend C can tell you which was is north. Plus, the Legend C has just as much memory, longer battery life than the Vista or Vista C, and auto-routes if you need to. Go color. Walk a few steps. Dean

If anyone is interested, I've got a "new" remanufactured Legend on e-bay, which includes a case and 12v cord: Garmin Legend Current bid with less than one day is $69.99. Dean

Check out the Garmin Legend I have for sale on e-bay: Garmin Legend Less than one day left! Dean

Absolutely. I've had both. No comprison. Compare other things you've seen in greyscale and color, such as PDAs, cell phones, hk, TVs if you're old enough!

Garmin 12volt Cord Whining Noise
Flakarter replied to Flakarter's topic in GPS technology and devices
FYI, I received a new 12 volt (12v) cord from Garmin as a warranty replacement. No more whining or humming noise. And the old cord does still whine/hum, so..............., it was the cord! Thanks Garmin. By the way, Germin sent me a new cord, 2 day air, and didn't request return of the old one, and didn't ask for proof of purchase or warranty card or anything. Amazing. In the 5 years I've been dealing with Garmin, their customer service has always come through with a reasonable solution to any problem. Now, I'll go to work trying to figure out why the screen jumps around while the gps is still. That occurs regardless of which map screen is on, and regardles of WAAS being on or off, and regardless of whether track is up or north. Hmmmm. Dean -

Garmin 12volt Cord Whining Noise
Flakarter replied to Flakarter's topic in GPS technology and devices
But the noise only occurs when the backlight is on and the gps is plugged into the 12v cord. Without the 12v cord, no noise when the backlight is on. Hmmmmmmmmm. Dean -
Garmin 12volt Cord Whining Noise
Flakarter replied to Flakarter's topic in GPS technology and devices
Garmin is sending me a new 12v cord, to see if it is a cord shielding problem. -
I just bought a Legend C, which I also use in the car, hooked up to the 12v power cord. I noticed that everytime I turned on the backlighting, there would be a high pitched whine in the car. I couldn't tell where it was coming from, so I put the gps to my ear. No noise. I shut off the backlighting, no noise. Backlighting on, the noise came back. I unplugged the 12 volt cord, and voila! The noise went away, regardless of whether or not the gps backlight is on or off. It appears that the cord itself is some how causing the whine, and the noise is probably coming over the car speakers, but only when the backlighting is "on" on the gps. And this happens in both our cars. Anybody else have this problem????? Any solutions? I plan to call Garmin in a few moments, but I thought I would share the problem. Dean

I noticed that the screen jumped around today when I had it set to North up. So it does the same thing, whether it's set to north up or track up. It's really distracting. Dean

Thanks for the tip on finding the version. I have 2.10. Upgrade time? And I do not have the unit set to north up. It's set to track up. But why does the screen shot jump around when I am still? If I'm not moving, it should just stay in the last position. Weird and irritating at a stop light. I've used it some more, and no more freeze ups. I'm really glad I bought this unit (nagging issues aside). Dean

Hi all, I just bought a Legend C to replace my Legend, and I have to say it is quite an improvement. Graphics load quicker, screen more readable, finds satellites quicker, etc. But, when driving into NYC from LaGuardia, where there was ample signal, I had my new unit freeze up on me 4 times, for no apparent reason. I had read a while ago that one particular firmware caused that problem in certain circumstances, mostly at or under bridges. But I was not near a bridge. 1) Is this a possible firmware problem? 2) If so, what is the best formware, and how can I find out what firmware is on my unit? By the way, it's worked perfect now that I'm back in Tampa (other than when I set at a light, or I'm not moving, the map starts jumping around). Any thoughts on that issue as well? Thanks Dean
