  1. Personally I prefer using a dedicated GPS, but if I'm out and just randomly want to search for geocaches, my iPhone is great. It does kill the battery really fast on mine, so I would say if you go on longer geocaching adventures, a dedicated GPS is the way to go.
  2. I had a PN-30 prior to getting the Oregon. While it is paperless, the "buttonology" of the Oregon is far and away better, and there are tons of free (including routable) maps for the Garmins. If you're going into the next price bracket above the GC (and several people have reported that link I posted has changed....), I'd look at the Oregon series. You can get a 200 (no compass or altimeter or wireless) or 300 (compass, altimeter and wireless) for cheap now. The X00 models have been discontinued, but in over a year with my 200, I'm still happy with it. Later! Is the wireless a bluetooth connection on the 300? Or does wireless mean something else? I will say that I find the PN40s plug a bit annoying. I don't like how the connection area is exposed. My father's older Garmin takes a more generic little USB one.
  3. I've been going paperless with my PN40 without a hitch. You can find good deals online. I got mine on Amazon. I'm not sure what its max number of caches is though.
  4. Not my cache, but this log cracked me up: http://www.geocaching.com/seek/log.aspx?LUID=65bde103-a3ad-4dd3-9b18-29eb49860d11&IID=892c40d7-0e15-4654-a87d-ab390f5f3557 I don't think they quite grasped the concept
  5. Just started collecting and am interested in getting an Earth Turtle. Not looking for a super rare one or anything. Is there a place where I can see the designs for the different years so I know which years to ask about?
  6. I'm still looking for a geoguitar. Preferably that psychedelic GW one, but I'd be interested in others for sale too. Also, does anyone have extra Earth Turtle ones? Not really looking for a specific one. Send me a message if you're looking to sell!
  7. found travelbug my ber, trek006, (tracking number removed by moderator)... how do i log it, i have also drpped it Margareta Margareta, I'll e-mail you in just a minute.
  8. That's a great idea! Never thought of that. Thanks Looks vaguely familiar: http://img.geocaching.com/cache/7357338d-a1af-48ef-bf72-6ca97f04c455.jpg Feel free to use it as worded, or altered, your choice. EDIT: do change the name, please! We just carry a pile of them, printed on postcard stock. Date it, fold it, and use a paper clip to affix it to the travel bug tag. The person next picking up the trackable can email you, if you continue to forget to log it in. Haha, of course I'd change the name That will be really helpful. Thanks!
  9. Personally, I would just get a cheap hippo toy from a toy store or ebay and then get the TB back into circulation. Like another poster said, I would note in my log that I had done this. (There are some cheap Little People hippos on ebay right now http://cgi.ebay.com/Fisher-Price-Little-People-Ark-Light-HIPPO-w-Red-Bird-/280602751030?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item41553a3036#ht_2404wt_754 )
  10. That's a great idea! Never thought of that. Thanks
  11. I've got a related question. I may be traveling out of the country for two weeks, and hope to do some geocaching along the way. However, I don't log my finds until I get home when I go on vacation for fear of leaving a travel log for burglars. It's probably just paranoia, but I'd rather be safe about it. I expect I will drop a few of my own bugs along the way, and perhaps pick some up if I come across them. What would be the best thing to do in this case? Write in the written log that I will be waiting to log online until I return and that I would appreciate it if the person who grabs the TB waits until then? If I find a TB, should I e-mail the owner, tell them I have it, and that I will be logging it later on? Probably the bigger issue will be having the correct milage on my own bugs. How does that work? If someone grabs it before the owner drops it, what happens when the owner goes to drop it?
  12. Reviving an old thread Anyone have any extras of these they'd like to sell? Doesn't matter if it's an error one or not.
  13. if you would like a activated one id adopt it to you just let me know also im still looking for a green jeep coin or tb if anyone has one thanks Thanks for the offer! I actually already bought the hippie bus one from someone on here, but am still interested in any of the flip flop coins. Oh also, to add to my list, I'd love one of those Geowoodstock guitar coins! Anyone have one for sale?

  15. It looks like he stole two from one individual. If I were you, I think I'd probably e-mail the other coin owners and see if they've had any e-mail communications with Davey. He actually peed in a cache?!? (Signal needs a vomit smiley face option) I feel awful for whoever discovered that!!! I was just reading his logs. Was that the "surprise" he referenced? Or is he hitting up way more caches than he logs? EDIT: Not to imply that you should e-mail him. I'd just be curious if anyone already has and what kind of response they got.
  16. If you have any more racer bugs (or other hippie style coins) or flip flops, let me know!
  17. I would love to buy one of those hippie bus Road to Sacramento coins, or perhaps a similar hippie-themed coin. Send me a message with a price if you have one to sell. Thanks! EDIT: Also interested in any of those flip flop coins, besides the current one that's for sale (watermelon). I saw a glow in the dark hibiscus one that really caught my eye, but I'd be interested in others too.
  18. Aaaand they keep coming. Our definitions of enjoy must differ greatly.
  19. I was not aware I could get a thread archived, and have just requested it be done.
  20. Words cannot sum up my response to this, so I guess emoticons will have to do. I will say though, in my defense, that I am a technical book editor, so this is just how I write, not speak. You're still missing the point. The point is my impression of you right now is probably WRONG because I haven't taken the time to talk to you. You have no real clue what is going on with camera guy because you haven't bothered to talk to him. You are just making assumptions based on what you think you know about him. I have archived the cache, so it really doesn't matter anymore. Why would I talk to him when I no longer have anything to gain? If he is a nut, then by talking to him now he will have a new target for his anger - me.
  21. Ugh, yeah, I know. I DID archive it. But this thread keeps going and I feel like I have to keep defending myself and rehashing the situation. You all want to call this a day? Or do I have to continue?

  23. Oh I see. Alright, well if that was the case, then my qualm would be that instead of getting advice about the trailhead camera, my cache location itself (which was never the issue) was attacked and some inaccurate maps were posted by forum members, which was probably what resulted in getting my cache in trouble. So then I'm sure you would say that was done to be helpful. However, the most helpful thing that could have been done at that point in the discussion would be to ask if I had proof of the conservation land. I could have then provided the town conservation map, rather than after the fact.
  24. Let's look at the simplest answer. Guy gets mad about hikers. Guy follows hikers to see what they are doing. From afar, he sees them at the cache location. Guy takes geocache and sets up camera to deter people from visiting the area again or maybe to show the police. Can I prove this? Of course not. The cache would not have been seen by someone just walking or kids playing around. Maybe eventually...but on the first day? That is too much of a stretch. So whoever took it intentionally looked for it and took it. Could it have been another neighbor? Sure! But who is the most likely suspect here? This scenario also now adds another person who could have easily just approached someone and ask them what they were doing. The box was labeled geocache and had a full-sized tie-dye sheet with the traditional cache note on it, so whoever found it for sure then knew what it was.
