  1. Absolutely of course they should be permitted. NFC is an up and coming technology, that we are going to see more and more in the coming months. It's been used in Passports for at least the last 5 years, and contactless payments for ~2 years. But its only just making into the mainstream. All the leading smartphone manufactures and now starting to include it in their new phones, that's not just the top of the range phones. Its not an elitist technology, the Tags only cost a couple of Dollars/Pounds/Euro's. CHRIP's are allowed which are expensive, limited to a single GPS manufacture and only on top end devices. So why not NFC Tags? What I do think is important, is that it is made clear on the cache page that you need a NFC reader / Smartphone with software. So that cachers don't waste time visiting GZ only to find they don't have the special equipment required. The NFC cache listings I have read so far, are only the tip of the iceberg, of the creative potential of this type of cache. Because of the low cost, you could have a trail made up of many Tags. Larger Tags could contain hints as well as Co-ords. You could even create a Wherigo style cache.
  2. I have created a bookmark list of all of the NFC Caches that I could find. If you know of any that I have missed or want your own added, please send me a message via my profile (not a forum PM) or post up the details here.

  4. Locus is worth taking a look at. Add the Geocaching4Locus and Locus Map tweak addon (for extra map sources). For an excellent mapping / Geocaching app. It allows you to download maps and PQ's, for off line use. So that you can continue Geocaching where the mobile data signal gives out. The development is very active, and its an approved `Live` app.
  5. Come on lets have a little bit of colour back.
  6. Keep an eye out for events in your area, there does seam to be a few south of Derby and in Nottingham in the past.
  7. No your account was not hacked. Locus and the addon are "Live" apps that use the official Groundspeek API and your Geocaching username and password to sign in. When you first sign in with them you will get an e-mail (just like the one you got) confirming that you have "successfully authorized" Locus or the addon to access your account. No need to panic.
  8. Get a screen protector and download some free UK maps from; http://www.talkytoaster.info/ukmaps.htm
  9. I have one that looks identical in my box of cache containers waiting to be placed. The design is neat, and when you open the maze the ball goes back to the beginning. Its also fairly simply to solve. But (there is always a but) it would not stand up to heavy use, so as the final in a multi is not a bad idea. It would not last long as a popular traditional.
  10. Good luck with you venture. Please let us know if you get up and running. Our closest store is https://www.ukgeocachers.co.uk in Ashbourne, so a little closer that 3 1/2 hours, and we have a 1/2 hour head start on you. I am not sure of the market idea, but a shelf where you work. May be work, but would require a lot of marketing so that local cachers know its there. On-line is the driving course these days, you will get a bigger audience with a good on-line store.
  11. Bedeutet dies auf Englisch Caches beziehen? Wenn ja TAG ist einer der produktivsten Cacher in Northamptonshire. Sorry für die Google-Übersetzung. Does this relate to english caches? If so TAG is one of the prolific cachers in Northamptonshire.
  12. I would normally recommend Locus, but it does not do "off-line" routing, that requires an internet connection. As a pure mapping / geocaching app I would recommend it. You can download vector maps of South America, or add the "Locus - addon Map Tweak" and download raster maps directly in Locus.
  13. Also reviewers will often wait a couple of weeks after a NA log, to given the CO a chance to sort this issue out.
  14. So many choices it's hard to narrow them down. Bex & Jax's Firs trail is a good one, as mcaddy recommends do it anti-clockwise. And watch out as there are two missing. After wet weather this trail can be very muddy. The caches and location from last weekends Mega, are great and on some good paths. See Mega event and www.hhandcc.co.uk well worth the £3 for parking and a cafe on site, that does not charge the earth. Firemountain24's "Kislingbury FC" series is another good one, which will not take all day. The brampton valley way is also great for caching.
  15. Co ords, Co ords, Co ords. If you are placing puzzle caches, make sure that you have the co ords right, then check them again. If you have to correct the co ords, you may have to redo the whole puzzle. It maybe worth just placing one or two standard caches, to get the feel of things and some feedback first.
  16. Call yourself a cacher, and do don't have a pen!!! The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy is often miss quoted as saying never go anywhere without a towel. When in fact it was never go caching without a pen.
  17. Then you have the wrong app. Get Locus maps. Add the map tweak for additional map sources. And Geocaching4Locus. And you have a great off line caching solution. Locus can download and import PQ's directly. It also supports downloading of maps for off lie use. The GPS on the Nexus is every bit as good as the etrex we have. The main downside is the robustness of the Nexus, I would not want to get it wet or drop it.
  18. How about upgrading to the etrex20/30 ?
  19. Take a look in the gallery for this event; http://coord.info/GC32829 And www.hhandcc.co.uk We are looking forward to this years at the weekend, we have been promised its even better. Apparently the night caches are so bad, they will have to be removed the next morning!! (To be replaced with standard camo containers)
  20. Take a look at Locus Maps, its a great Mapping and Geocaching app. Which can download PQ's directly.
  21. You could also try working with the CO of the puzzle cache. In a similar situation as CO, I would assist another cacher in placing a new cache.
  22. Is there a monkey icon in the top right of your browser. You should be able to remove it using one of the menu options on the drop down.
  23. Is Northampton, in range? We have completed half of the Firs Trial today. For us it was on foot. But it was also popular with off road cyclists. (Providing you don't mind getting dirty) Link to one of the geocaches. Also Rutland water, is the midlands cycling mecca. But I believe its over your 10 mile limit.
  24. Check that you are "logged in" if not the cache locations will only be approximate.
