Sorry - I denied it. Didn't know I did that fast. The Signs of History waymark is also now denied. I've sent a message to the officer of the Roadside Attractions and advised my findings. I don't suspect that the waymark will be up too long as if nothing else, the person didn't give a good URL . So, if you do a right click and copy the URL and paste it into WORD or EXCEL you get this - http://n/a - he didn't follow the category with a proper URL. So, it is my hope that SOMEONE will follow the rules and will post this in the Kansas category. I know of at least one other category - Permanent Geographic Coordinates - that this would go in. I would think that if someone is taking the effort to post this waymark, they are going to post themselves getting the cache at Mingo. It's just too iconic.

...and there is the second guy for the Kansas Markers - he actually did a photoshop of the marker for the "Panorama" shot of the marker. Oy vey...

In fact, the guy who posted in Roadside Attractions is the same guy I denied. Must have a time machine or something to be able to get international flights into Kansas City or Denver, 9 or 10 hours roundtrip to get the picture without doing any other geocaching, flying internationally back to Ontario, and finding a dozen geocaches. Pretty spectacular! Best Part - not log MINGO itself.... The guy who posted in Signs of History - again, how do you go to the middle of BFKansas to get a sign about Mingo and then NOT LOG Mingo!!!! UMMM..... 'cause the person wasn't there...... Again, Mingo is one of those holy grail caches - that's why the flippin' sign went up. So far, two separate geocachers, who aren't really waymarkers, posting the same picture. Same type of guys who start guessing codes for travel bugs to run up numbers, or ruined virtual caches for the rest of us in '07....

It was signs of history - said so in my reply. They shouldn't have accepted it, because the Kansas Historical Markers, which I lead, takes all markers. Signs of History is supposed to only be for those states that do not accept all markers - just official ones like Texas. It was a totally different name that submitted for my Kansas markers this morning from Ontario, Canada. I'm glad that I have really good officers that denied it and alerted me - I sent back a further denial for the internet picture. I'm keeping a close eye out on this submission and this picture for the Kansas Historical Markers...

I bet Kansas Historical Markers won't be one of them unless the can tell me the real name of the person who took the picture and not this one they are getting off the internet. We've already denied it. Also, signs of history should have NEVER accepted it in the first place as Kansas accepts all historical markers - again, Officers in a category not reading their own description and accepting everything so they can run up their own numbers later. I belong to two Kansas Geocaching groups where this picture was posted on Sunday. It's the exact picture that now two someones have pulled off Facebook...

Good thing my profile has my home location - right now I'm going through old pictures and finding a whole bunch of waymarks I missed. I found stuff from Texas to Illinois.... I guess that's what happens when one has 15 years worth of pictures.

Six waymark Stops on the actual tour, but each stop has a minimum of 3 waymark categories on the actual site and as many as eight. I wanted to make sure that if someone took the time to do the waytour, they at least had the chance to get all of the visits! It took five hours total on the complete writeup - just an hour to writeup the first stop. You have no idea how many revisions I went through to get it to look like that! I do know that I'm glad I had your template for the background as it saved me many hours of reading and trying to figure it out! Hence the big thank you to you, Barb, and Keith at the bottom of the waymark for the html coding help. the pictures were actually really the easy part, I was able to look that up on the intrawebs and test. They came out great. Now, making the actual Waytour kinda sorta look like the brochure I had in my head, that was tough part!.

Five Hours on one waymark... I guess I'm not trying for number this evening!

I wish I still drink - I may need a beer or six after beating on this. Stupid migraines! Thanks for the support on this - yea, it isn't going to be a one line commercial waymark for sure... I'm already two hours in and only 1 waymark posted - Sheesh!

BTW... I REALLY like the way your OKC breweries waytour turned out - I'm using it as a base template to make sure that I get said what I need to get said, speaking of stealing.

Yea, I'm stealing / borrowing the base code. I figure the person/s I'm stealing from will take it as a compliment, right Keith???? Some of it, though, I'm doing from trial and error. I'm an software support person, darn it - we make fun of the people who actually code, not actually get our hands dirty with the stuff!!! I'm with you, though, vulture1957, I have a normal blockquote I do with another set of HTML for plaques. I have been known to actual work a table to get a plaque to look just right. This one, though, I just want it to look RIGHT...

I'm glad this topic popped up. I've been going through old pictures to see what waymarks I have missed or there are new categories for. In fifteen years, you can't imagine the number of waymarks I am finding that I can post. Anyway, I think I have an interesting Waytour to publish since this topic is now en vogue. It looks like it is going to be this evening's project. Any bets on the over/under on the number of times I'm going to hafta resubmit? Friendly wager, of course. Man, I wish I had better HTML skills!

I go back to DougK's original comment when this was brought up - this category would be just way too common to merit inclusion. There's really nothing special to this - in my mind, a lot of these awards are like participation awards given to everyone in a little kids soccer league. ...sometimes, like the Hollywood Walk of Fame, the "Award" winners actually PAY to get the award, or they politic their communities for voting so they can win the award. It has nothing to do with the actual merit of the action. Nah, way too broad in scope. With the description you have above, the "Tree City" award from the National Arbor Day Foundation would account for 3400 waymarks just in the US. What happens with multiple awards at a location? Multiple waymarks? Nah, this is going to be just way too common and potential very subjective by the category officers.

A lot of times, especially here in the Sunflower State, rocks are put on top of wooden fence posts to keep woodpeckers from building nests or just generally tearing the crap out of the posts so they have to be replaced. Metal posts are expensive and if you can get away with a wood post you made yourself and a rock, you're ahead of the game. In the midwest, you'll also see them painted purple - "No Trespassing".... It's not to cheer for K-State orTCU....

People working in the industry are really getting hurt right now - it's always been boom or bust. I got a feeling, though, there is going to be some serious gasoline shortages come late fall as everyone travels after being cooped up.

Like I said before, I've posted 4 McDonalds in 15 years - not my favorite, but a great place to get your feet wet. Again, there are different sizes of boats - dinghys, bassboats, johnboats, all the way up to ocean going yachts. See, boatload is relative. Hopefully, with your interest in the wineries, it is the yacht size boatload... Now, with your wineries, are they large enough for a Wikipedia entry? Do they have a Bell, an old water pump, old agricultural equipment on display? Do they have wifi? Are they on the National Register of Historic Places? Do they have a fancy Neon Sign? Again, a lot of times, one place you can waymark actually has MANY waymarks there. If you can, try to keep an eye out for other things - easier said when you get a lot more experience. Trust me - I have gotten home and seen several waymarks I missed. Again, good luck, do not hesitate to ask questions.

It is getting towards the end of the May futures contract for crude oil. Trading in that contract is really thin so wild swings can happen. Unfortunately, people and traders get spooked by news like this and start selling like crazy. For me, since I am not at retirement age and I am thankfully and luckily working from home, what drops like this means is that I am adding to my 401(k) with MUCH cheaper share prices than I was two months ago. WHEN (not if) this market bounces back, I am going to be much further ahead than I would have been without the drop AND without a panic sell and reallocation. The futures market has already bounced back in this evening's trading. All I am seeing is Billy Ray and Louis in the Frozen Orange Juice pit and asking: "How did you do today?" Great movie! Of course, they don't even have those live pits anymore, but still....

Let me suggest this, especially if you plan to post a boat load of waymarks into this Wineries category. I would actually join the category as a member. Find the Wineries Category, Click Show Category, Click Show Additional Information, (you may have to click show category again) and click Join Group. Once you do, you will have access to see who the officers are. Up in the Upper left hand Corner you should see where it says Managed by: Wineries. Click the link and it should give you a link to the officers. In this group, it looks like everyone is active by their last logon date. I would message the leader - RakeInTheCache with your specific question, or any of the other officers. The problem with asking a specific question about a category in the forums, especially a detailed one like this, you may get the wrong answer from someone who isn't an officer of the category. With this being your first posting, we (the Waymarking community) really want it to be as smooth as possible. That said, please don't be surprised if your waymark doesn't come back for corrections the first time around. It's nothing personal; don't get angry or frustrated - see what the problem is and correct it. Even after 15 years I still get declined waymarks and have to make corrections The wineries category appears to be one of the tougher categories - if you can master this one, you can master 99% of the others! The best advice I ever got was from the late BruceS - a legend here in Waymarking. Remember, you are trying to make an interesting waymark - what makes it unique from the others of the category - you basically want to sell your waymark to others so they will want to visit. Good luck on your first waymark - I hope to hear how it goes!
