1. If you are up for some mountain hiking, I've enjoyed these (as well as others) Divide and Conquer (about 1hr west of Boulder, 4 hr hike RT) Geocache (it's the logbook on top, 4 hr hike RT) Vinces Royal Cache (in some of the town's open space, 2hr hike RT) and one fun one in town Red Herring
2. Geognerd and I mentioned basically the same back projection method. Here is another way if you know the angle and distance that you want to go from a waypoint: a) convert coords to UTM, now every unit is in meters, convert distance to meters, use triginometry to get the two major axis lengths, c) add/subtract these offsets from your initial waypoint to get 2nd waypoint, d) convert back to coord system you like. disclaimer: works for short distances
3. I don't know this GPSr but in general: You can do a back projection to the waypoint you know. 1) mark your known position and do a goto to it. 2) as you move away, the back angle and distance should display. 3) move until you reach the postion desired. hope this helps
4. Boy, spend the wknd in the mtns and your thunder gets taken ... thanks Blue, you're doin' a good job. I'm really impressed with the other state cache write-ups, gonna havta research CO history and expand my page. Looking forward to finding them all. ONCE AGAIN- Colorado has been published.
5. MapSource GPX files do not work. Save the route as mps file and convert it with GPSBabel 1.2.8 (Beta) into gpx format. Make sure the gpx version is 1.1 (see option in GPSBabel). gpx file from mapsource 6.11.1 worked for me.
6. If you still need Colorado, I'll step up and do it.
7. very funny; I see a grainy, flickering, black and white scene of keystone cop types screetching up in a vehicle, jumping out, circling, yelling something gutteral, jumping back on the side-walls and driving off to the distance ...
8. and here is the find map, works out to at least 3mi then I gave up. it is on even without the cursor's help.
9. on the regular map page, I do get the name when scrolled over: (but it goes off after about 4 sec) GeoBobC - these are custom POIs I am using software version 2.60
10. I checked mine and I get the name only with the cursor over the blue dot. If you goto FIND/POI, is the waypoint listed on your GPRr? If not, maybe you need to name it in Mapsource. Also, when doing a FIND/POI, the name selected will appear when viewed on the map.
11. I think you got your answer above (its your GPSr) 'cause GPS time is pretty accurate.
12. THANKS for the notice. I have been loading the quats for CO since I updated yesterday and it mostly works for me, the updated quads are flagged correctly, but the streets are not. It sure is slow and I need a button to select all.
13. As I understand it 6400 mil=360 deg is from the US military, and may well be adopted by others. There are 1000 milli-radians (mil) in a radian, giving 6283 mils for a full circle. one source
14. good question, made me look it up. google "ppc screenshot" and you will get lots of choices or use a freebee, pocket screen capture. once you have the picture, sync with your computer and copy over the newly made ppc screen shot.
15. Here's what I did and what you could try: Made the map you want. Copy the map you want to your computer. Goto your account and edit your profile. upload the map picture from your computer into your available pictures on Groundspeak.com (one way is under 'change/edit avatar') go back to editing your profile and enter into one of the three blank areas at the bottom:
you get the http string when you open the picture in its own window. view your profile and the map should be there.
16. here is another alternative: map-maker utility
17. I had this problem too, until lately. I have 'zone alarm pro' and had to set it to accept ads from Groundspeak for the larger pictures to be seen. there was also another topic that had other suggestions. hope this helps.
18. Is this in the Cimarron range or in the Silver City range? ...or somewhere else? I might make it, depending where and if you still have the TBs.
19. I made it too, in 1977 by the skin of my teeth up in Boulder, CO; ...and I met into my ol scoutleader ( ) geocaching one of my caches a couple of years ago.
20. Thanks Xangxa for your effort, I just worked my way thru your example and it was great. Very cool and very useful.
21. I just want to add that after the snow melts, it is often left on the trails as ice and hardpack. This makes for slippery traveling. An easy solution is shoe studs. They work great and convert back in the summer.
22. I have a Legend that was replaced during Oct '04. It currently has 81 hrs logged since then and has been flawless . EDIT: talk about timing
23. As Tahosa said, it will be cold and snowy that time of year in the mountains. If you don't mind that, Golden Gate State Park is close to Denver and fun in the winter. They even have ice fishing available.
