  1. If it was actually a bottle cap or TP wad, that would be one thing, but if it is a hemetically sealed cache container which reveals a log and keeps out moisture and greatly RESEMBLES a bottle cap or TP wad, then I have no business telling them not to do so. In fact, I found a bottle cap cache a couple weeks ago and I thought it was an awesome hide.
  2. Yes, that is the waypoint name. It is a great way to definitively identify a specific cache as opposed to doing a regular name search where there may be several caches with the same given name, such as "cache-a-lot" or some similar cache name. Also, it allows the naming of waypoints on your GPSr without having to come up with bizarre and contrived abbreviations.
  3. Does that mean that there will be no Cachemate of the Month centerfolds in this magazine? Not in this one, but I think you just gave me a great idea for new caching calendar. Now if I can just get permission to use the geocaching.com logo.
  4. Alright, everyone! I got everything working and the ONLY THING LEFT that is throwing me off is that my Garmin shows the cache ID names and the PDA shows the actual cache names! What now?!
  5. You can definitely get a Garmin CSX 60 for less than $300.00 on Ebay!
  6. I've heard the cheapo adapters will work with this on a Mac.
  7. Of course, they my have just been telling you they were out of the CSX to throw you off and surprise you.
  8. Advising them you are going to upgrade it for the one you REALLY want is not a bad idea. Asking them to pay the difference would not be so cool. Go ahead and get the one you want but pay for the difference in price yourself. That's MY two cents!
  9. Alright. I have been steadily progressing the last several days on getting everything to function and I now have: 1. MacCaching installed and Pocket Query data dragged and dropped into it. 2. Successfully downloaded cache data into my Etrex Legend. 3. Successfully got my Handspring Visor to hotsync with my Mac. Now, all I need to do is get MacCaching to download the data file onto my Visor so I have all the hints and logs that make this truly paperless caching! For the life of me, I have tried a hundred times but I do not know how to set up MacCaching to make it put the data on my PDA. Please help. Thanks in advance!
  10. "Kid-safe" doesn't always mean it is "geared towards kids". It simply means, if kids DO pick it up and read it, there is very little chance of them seeing something considered objectionable. (I say "very little chance" knowing full well there are as many different ideas as to what is "acceptable" as there are cachers out there.) Anyway, I listen to various radio stations on the way to work and back and one of the programs always taunts itself as "kid-safe" although it is full of content geared for adults. The content just happens to "safe" in case your kid is listening. I don't want to open up a can of worms about ambiguous levels of "what's right for so-and-so's kid," but I think making a concerted effort to make a caching magazine "kid-safe" is well-worth the time. Just for the record, I think it has been established through various online forum polls that the majority of cachers (at least those who visit the forums) are in their 30's and 40's. And I still like the idea of a "kid-safe" magazine.
  11. Merry Christmas to all the cachers, young and old. Welcome to the new cachers, logging online soon after opening their new GPSr. (Get out of the forums, by the way, and go find some caches!)
  12. Until someone physically places a cache there, it is not geocaching related and, therefore, off topic.
  13. Alright, how does cachemate work? How do I load it onto the PDA through the computer? I have temporarily switched over to using a PC for the purpose of getting my little Handspring Visor to connect and allow me to put cachemate or something on it that will work but my PDA won't even connect to the PC. The software I downloaded says it is for at least version 3 of the Palm OS but I don't even know how to tell what version my Visor has. Can the Palm OS be updated on my Visor? I'm just trying to make this work. Thanks.
  14. Geocaching and Murder?!? No, silly! Geocaching and Reading! I would never mix caching with my professional life.
  15. Maybe this will help...especially the links within that page.
  16. Its been my experience and opinion that WAAS definitely increases accuracy. I have also heard (although I doubt it is true) that it also consumes battery power more quickly. I don't know why it would do this. Can someone correct me about the battery power thing?
  17. I have successfully loaded my cache data into the GPSr using MacCaching and I then tried to load the same file into the PDA so I would have all the hints and such, and it gave me the following error: The application "HotSync Manager" could not be launched because of a shared library error: "<HotSync Manager><HotSync Manager><HotSyncLib.PPC><>" It was the first time I tried to launch Hot Sync because I just got my data cable for the PDA (Handspring Visor) today. I have come this far and all that remains is to hot sync the data to the PDA and I will be a completely paperless cacher! Help!! THANKS!!
  18. That makes more sense. The "Geo Mag" ID only has two finds (both social events) and I couldn't imagine someone with no actual caches logged trying to produce a caching mag. Your actual ID lets me get a better idea of who is making the publication. Anyway...thanks, again, for the clarification.
  19. Thanks for the response, Geo mag. By the way, would you mind sharing your real Groundspeak user name? I mean, what is your regular log in name here on geocaching.com?
  20. And... WKCWJP ("What kind of cache would Jesus hide?")... all I know is that it wouldn't be a micro. Seriously, I think it's considered a sin. Oh really? Well let those without sin throw the first stone sock boy. As of this post, the last cache you found was a micro. The log sounds like you had fun, and even thanked the owner for the hide by stating "TFTH" at the end. In fact, 19 of your past 80 finds was a micro. That's just one shy of 25%. Well what about caches that you own? Wow, 1 of YOUR 4 active caches is a micro!!! That doesn't sound to me like someone who really believes micros are a sin. Or are you just trolling in the forums by pouncing on micros in every thread you can, even if it's completely off topic?????? I took it as he was joking about the number of people here in the forums that whine about micros. Obviously, a little micro-lover like yourself can't comprehend that.
  21. What role do "fresh batteries" play in this? Hi. Sorry for the late response. 'Just saw your post. Fresh batteries MAY have played a role in this scenario as the OP did not indicate whether his GPSr was functioning AT ALL. He merely said he could not pick up satellites. If the GPSr had dead batteries, it wouldn't pick up any satellites, now, would it?! Anyway, it has since been clarified, so... Thanks.
  22. You mean you want people to pay to read your on line magazine? Take it from someone that has a little experience in this department....It ain't gonna happen. Also, your "long awaited magazine" came out years ago. El Diablo I think its an actual printed mag. It just has an online sample. Is that correct?
  23. Congrats on the launch. Is the six issues monthly? Bi-monthly? Best wishes for your mag.
  24. I went out one day this past week and stood in my front yard and couldn't get a fix to save my life. I went in to turn on the television and see if we might be under attack. An hour later, I tried again and picked up a 3D fix in a couple minutes. Went caching. Its rare when it doesn't, but, those satellites don't ALWAYS cover EVERYTHING...ALL the time.
