  1. Have people got missions yet for Oct and Nov? I didn't hear anything so I sent another message to Penny and Kona and still have not received a message. Hope everything is alright.
  2. I was wondering what you guys do to keep track of your coins? I assume that I don't want to activate coins that I might trade and it appears that the only way to list them on Geocaching.com is to activate them.
  3. A much better alternative to a knife is defensive spray. Both you and the wife should be carrying it where you can get at it fast like on your belt or in your pants pocket. Two large guys and you with a knife, chances are they had bigger knives then you and know how to use them. The spray gives you time to put distance between yourself and an attacker. Did one of you have a cell phone? Most the time these things turn out ok but there is always a chance they won't, take this experience and learn from it so you are better prepared for the next what if.
  4. Better training and a shock collar. There is no reason that you should not be able to drop a leash on the ground for a couple minutes and have to worry about your dog taking off. People can say what they want about shock collars but I know I can call my dog back in any situation and once trained to the shock collar most of the time it just takes hearing the warning tone or vibration depending on the collar to jog his brain awake with no need to apply any further force. I have used the collar to call the dog off chasing down a wounded goose that was getting to close to a road and to call him off water retrieves where he was getting to far or it was getting dangerous. If any one has ever waterfowled with a high octane lab that lives to retrieve on land and water you know its no easy task to get them to stop. I was against the collar at first but after having some recall issues with the lab I realized that the collar is a very effective tool that in the end makes the dog safer. So train that little guy the best you can and seriously consider a shock collar for the times that you need to get his attention and get him back to you safely. One last thing. Do not tie the leash around you waist or other body part. You stated that the dog drug a kayak once, well just think if you are not paying attention or a little off balance and he decides to take off. You could end up on the ground with broken body parts.
  5. This is what I was going to recommend. Try Fox foam spray, it is harder to hit your target but less chance of getting some on you. You don't have to worry as much about which way the wind is blowing.
  6. It doesn't appear that the list you linked me to is an all inclusive list. I was looking at it last night and comparing it to coins from some of the approved vendors off the list and they had ones that weren't listed but stated they could be tracked on geocaching.com. I have been through the pinned threads and couldn't figure out if there is a complete list of coins or what the deal is. There are some cool coins I wouldn't mind having but I won't be getting crazy with the collecting.

    Coin ?

I am looking at all the sticky info and some searches about these geocoins but I am not sure I understand fully. Is there a list of all Geocoins? It appears the Geocaching.com has coins but there are many others as well. Do the others track the same as Geocaching coins, do they trade the same? What are some good places to view and purchase coins?
  8. I currently use a storm 2 for work and have not had any problems with it for the 6 months I have been using it so that is why I was thinking about upgrading my personal phone. After checking the Verizon web site and seeing what a smartphone would cost even with a new 2 year contract I am thinking about a new GPS like the Explorist GC. I don't really need a smartphone for personal use anyway.
  9. How well dose CacheSense work with Geocaching.com. I am very interested in paperless caching and since I am up for a phone upgrade through Verizon I was thinking of going with a Blackberry Storm and the CacheSense software.
  10. Pen, pencil, a little swag, a track-able, maybe some small sheets of paper. Never carry a firearm in a bag, its to easy for someone to grab carry your firearm on your person.
  11. No I did a pocket query with .gpx files. When loaded into Map send lite I can see some info but when I click on description or logs it tries to link up to the internet and I get a page load error but I can click on web page and it gose to the cache page on geocaching. On the gps the description isn't there, the hint gets cut off if its to long and travel bug info doesn't show up.
  12. So my wife and I have started caching and I am having problems controlling all the data. I have a explorist 600 that I have figured out how to down load caches to but not all the hint data comes through, the cache size doesn't get loaded as well as the description. I have found that some of the descriptions and cache size info is important. Do you guys keep track of this info? How? We do our caching off of mountain bikes so it needs to be compact. Is there a GPS unit that I could down load all the cache data to.
