  1. I just started a few months ago added a pocket query onto my new GPS. i've seen some good ideas and advice since my response, maybe I was wrong about 2,000 being best, maybe 1,500 is better!
  2. Did you mean 05/02/2017? if not you're posting a find for February 5th not May 2nd so you won't get the souvenir. If you specifically logged the find for May 2nd it should show up on your profile under the "souvenirs" tab.
  3. The a-team site Optimist on the run mentioned is usually updated and this year I have an ongoing forum thread, 2017 Souvenirs.
  4. There are some powertrails that are dozens of caches going on for dozens of miles. Those can take a while, and I agree encourage cut-n-paste logs. Themed power trails with up to 100 caches or so are alright because they are a series and will have various hiding places and theres a variety of hiding locations and could be completed in a reasonable amount of time. The 100 miles long powertrail is too complicated to keep track of and plan, at least to me!
  5. Whoever was the first to find the cache not knowing its hiding location specifically, if the FTF. If a group of people try to be the FTF on a cache and one person finds it before everyone else that one person IS the FTF and can put [FTF] in their log. Sometimes people caching with their significant others who don't participate in the statistics claim FTF even though they were second to find. And cachers who don't have their own account and cache for somebody else, that somebody else can claim FTF. I know it sounds complicated but there is no such thing as a co-FTF with very few exceptions!
  6. Cache having a low difficulty rating when it is challenging to find. Or people saying its an "easy" find when it is NOT!
  7. If the cache has multiple DNFs spanning over a long period of time you could post a needs maintenance log, or (especially if the owner hasn't logged into the account) an NA. But only log these if you have visited the location and can be sure the cache is most likely gone or is in fact gone. An NA log gets sent to both of the emails affiliated with the publishing reviewer's account and the CO's account. I don't understand why you would contact HQs if there are DNFs on a cache I have never done this and don't plan on it.
  8. I assume you've already received the weekly newsletter from GS, and now know about the souvenir for May 2nd: B. I had actually not seen this email about the blue switch souvenir until today and also got an email about the additional 3 million caches souvenir given to current Cache owners.
  9. I'm wondering what souvenirs are coming out for May so excited! I checked the-a team website but still nothing besides Mega and Giga events and the CITO week in September. I need 10 more souvenirs to go and I can go look for the challenge cache! I've got the a team site bookmarked! Also, I usually log caches on the computer and even after I do I can see all the souvenirs I got in my souvenirs tab on my profile.
  10. Yup. And if you're attending a CITO that weekend, you'll get two souvenirs for one. Such a deal! I am attending a CITO in Syracuse that weekend and plan to do some geocaching that day anyways
  11. Just got an email that says if you find a geocache on April 22 or 23 you get the "3 million caches" souvenir. Sounds pretty interesting.
  12. That is quite a demand. I know the coordinates and have been trying to help figure out what the cache could've been but no luck right now.
  13. What geocache were you looking for when you found the Ammo Can instead? There may be something in the description of that cache from the owner about their connection to the area. OFten times if somebody hides a cache in a park where they found one of their first geocaches, they might mention it in the description.
  14. A bit on the late side, I suspect. They've given us at least six weeks notice on most of the upcoming ones, though I wish there really was one for the first of next month since it falls nicely on a Saturday. You need six weeks minimum to plan to get a souvenir from geocaching? Depending on the requirements of the souvenir, yes. Let's say someone wants to host an event in order to allow local cachers to get the souvenir. It may take time to identify and book a venue, organize activities, acquire prizes, etc., and the listing has to be submitted no later than 2 weeks before the date. Let's say the souvenir requires the finding of a specific type of cache, like a Letterbox Hybrid. If there aren't any caches nearby or they've already found all the local ones, it may take time to plan the necessary travel to a location where one of these caches is available. Let's say the souvenir requires attending an event. If the event will occur while a cacher is scheduled to be working, they may need to provide sufficient notice to their employer that they want the time off. In short, there are many reasons why cachers may need time to prepare for a souvenir. Exactly. Once people knew about the Outdoors Day souvenir, it was only days away so nobody could submit an event that shortly. Thats one reason why its important to know about souvenirs ahead of time.
  15. (4) one also can sign up for being notified about new blog posts, then one does not need to pay active attention to the blog. Even better! If only people (such as myself) that subscribe to the Blog see the Blog posts in their email every time one is submitted especially if it involves a souvenir.
  16. Yup. I just received this week's newsletter and the Dönerstag souvenir is front and center in the email. Very helpful to those who don't check the blog page regularly! Just received mine today March 1.
  17. The newsletter goes out weekly, usually Mondays or Tuesdays. Are you still thinking that there should be new souvenirs released each month? B. I just saw that the new souvenir will be available April 13 by attending a non-CITO event. Did not get a newsletter or blog about this, saw it on the A-team website. The new souvenirs don't have to be in different months, they can be in the same month.
  18. Back on a serious note. I do not see any information on March 2017 souvenirs and it is almost March. Maybe the newsletter or blog with the information hasn't been published yet.
  19. What blog are you talking about? I don't see anything about Valentine's Day 2017 on the Groundspeak blog: https://www.geocaching.com/blog/ Did you get in contact with Groundspeak about not receiving the weekly newsletter? (which has NOTHING to do with subscribing to the GS blog) B. I just saw an email from today that people will be going geocaching on Valentine's Day. Sounded a lot like the wording for the September CITO week. So you ARE receiving the GS weekly newsletter. GS newsletter of today: That's a sales pitch. I don't get any "souvenir" vibe from it at all. Newsletter from last week: B. The newsletter problem was fixed then if you are correct. Thank you for showing the content of last week's newsletter as well as the one I saw.

  21. The new blog hinted at something going on for Valentine's Day so maybe there's going to be a souvenir for that day.
  22. According to what I've read, and what is mentioned in the thread I started, it appears September 23 to October 1 will be a CITO-filled "week"
  23. The cache was just found in November by French speaking geocachers which appear to have had to spend a while there enjoying the views and eventually became able to find the container. I do not think its missing. The 2 cachers who logged DNFs simplify state that they each didn't find the cache (for whatever reason, that is). GPS fool specifically wrote a note on the cache page recently stated that he/she would replace the cache if it was indeed missing.
  24. I subscribed to the blog but did not get the "newsletter" part at all. Now I will have to keep an even closer eye on the A-Team's site as a new souvenir could be announced that I need to plan for! Subscribing to the blog has nothing to do with signing up for the newsletter. As a Premium Member, you will want to sign up for the newsletter. 1.2. Weekly Email Newsletter http://support.Groundspeak.com/index.php?pg=kb.page&id=104 B. This is not the first time he's brought up that he's had this issue. Apparently the problem of not getting the newsletter has never been corrected. I have never had a problem I get emails from Geocaching HQ very frequently. This is how I get a lot of my information. If you want to know something you just have to know where to look for it. You're right, it hasn't been corrected since I have both Tips & Tricks checked and Weekly Newsletter checked and did not get an email about the CITO souvenirs this week. I did however get an email a couple days ago from following the Blog where somebody had posted instructions on what to do if you host a CITO event and it said something like "on September 23 geocachers from all over the world will be hosting CITO events." I'm guessing that Blog email was alluding to the CITO week in September ending on October 1st. The blog is working fine, somebody posted a blog about "cache of the week, is there one near you?" or something like that. Yes blog posts I get most of those emails, Newsletter and Tips & Tricks there's NOTHING in my inbox at all, even checked junk mail. That is the blog post we are all talking about. This is from that blog post: I'm saying I didn't get that newsletter dated January 26, 2017 (or any of the 5 so far this year) but I did get the blog post somebody posted on January 31st.
