Multi cache requiring a smart phone
St.Matthew replied to Geo Froggy's topic in General geocaching topics
They're really fun, providing that the description states that a smartphone is required. -
Every time I have seen a cache that uses a flash file, it has been linked offsite, just like YouTube videos and sound files.

Challenge Cache Too Challenging
St.Matthew replied to cache_n_out's topic in General geocaching topics
I couldn't agree more. As it stands, 12 cache types would have to include those convenient events that are the same day and adjacent to a Mega, now against guidelines. Therefore the challenge cannot be accomplished from here out. Under those grounds, it shouldn't be published. -
Just make sure that the description states a general idea of how long it is.

To be fair, if you replace the o ring with a better o ring, it will be nearly water resistant until the o ring needs replaced.

New Geocaches and Saturation

I've been thinking of buying GSAK primarily for the routing ability... I'm sick of doing that manually.

If you are still on the fence, you don't have to do a $30/year for premium membership. You can do $10/3 months. That way you have 3 months to figure out if it is worth keeping or cancelling. In my opinion, when you can send geocaches to your gps (paperless Geocaching), pocket queries, giving favorite points, and access to premium members only caches, it is worth it.

I can't afford a new car. Why is the car company waging class warefare against me? If Groundspeak wants to charge 100 or 1000 dollars per year, they have that right. It's not a war against you. Finally, supporting this hobby alone is worth the money. What you get for 30 bucks a year is huge.

Yes, that is what I meant. My bad.

I was just thinking today, a way to search your own field notes would be very nice. You type in a word or phrase, and a list of all your field notes with links to those geocaches loads.

258 in small town Western Ohio. More than I would have guessed.

Thanks for the ideas everyone. This is exactly the brainstorming I needed.

The problem with #1 is that if the zone is bigger than the actual indoor location, then players won't bother going inside to complete the cartridge. I think I will just have to test this one on two devices and see if it is accurate enough to write a full cartridge around.

In order to have successfully log this cache, you must first have painted your bedroom at least 4 different colors since 10/14/2009.

Jet Skier - most often a "numbers" cacher, these cachers often tag along with Puzzle Fiends to log puzzles that they've never even looked at.

Are you part of the organizing committee? The organizers should reach out to Groundspeak to express a desire to include Lab Caches at this upcoming event. It's so close to Pittsburgh, maybe I will get to meet you there! I am not part of the committee, but I concur that lab caches would be nice. It would be good to meet you.

Here's to hoping they will be confirmed for MOGA 2014.

Northeast Ohio Cachers With "Extra Finds"
St.Matthew replied to geocat_'s topic in General geocaching topics
I live in the area of abuse mentioned. While some of my friends do this, I couldn't disagree more. -
Has anyone successfully created or played through a Wherigo that makes use of indoor zones? Naturally, the zones would have to be massive, since the gps will be very inaccurate due to cover of a roof.

Haha we call those pop tops! As long as the creator follows the directions, then yes I agree they are decent and usually waterproof. If the creator skims on work, say hello to soggy log.

Should CO's Delete False Find Logs?
St.Matthew replied to CrazySanMan's topic in General geocaching topics
The problem isn't how they're playing, it's the false information they're generating. For example, their find log might make it look like a cache is there when it isn't. +1. The different way of playing is a bogus argument. A basic tenet of geocaching is that you navigate to a cache location and hunt for it. Armchair logging is not simply a different way of geocaching, it has nothing whatsoever to do with geocacing. +2 -
I read this article this morning. These could be fun EarthCaches if they aren't already! http://www.cracked.com/article_20667_5-mind-blowing-things-you-wont-believe-were-built-by-nature.html

I don't have a Garmin, but a friend told me that he was also having this problem.
