Well, the last time I left my HT on while caching, two hams were ragchewing on 52 so I quickly turned it off. I didn't want to listen to them while walking to the cache.

  2. 146.52 is fine to call out but if I am bringing my handi to geocache with other hams then I would probably move off to some other simplex freq and 147.5 would be a good choice.

If I am geocaching then I am not yaking on my local repeater and don't want to listen to it or be talking to some ham driving on the interstate. I am in the woods. I want quiet.

Maybe we could pick a Geocache PL tone for 146.52 then I could monitor it while geocaching and if it opens up I know it is a geocacher calling CQ.

I don't want to monitor 52 for anything but geocachers if I am geocaching. To me the idea is to monitor to see if anyone else is caching the same cache as me and then maybe having an eyeball QSO with them

  3. We skipped the Waffle Houses but we did stop at a Sonic Burger on way back to Atlanta. Must say the large serving of onion rings that came with the Sonic Burger value meal were quite good.

I had never been to one before. Neat, having a car hop come out and serve you your fast food. Two value meals for less than $10 was a pretty good deal too.

  4. I just thought I would share this adventure because it was great fun.

Jungle green and I a year ago discovered a place to hike and stay called the Hike Inn, http://www.hike-inn.com/. We had made reservations for last September but then September 11 occurred and we canceled the trip. Well we rebooked our flight for a year later and discovered geocaching in January. Before leaving NJ for our trip I decided to search for geocaches in the area of the Hike Inn and what did I find a brand new cache called Foote Steps, http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?ID=37793, that looked like it would be on the trail in.

We began our hike to the inn after checking in at the Amicola Falls visitor center and began counting down the miles to the inn and the cache. It was a beautiful trail with just the beginning hint of color in the trees. Our anticipation grew as the distance shrank because we knew no on had been to this cache yet when we left NJ and seeing how far a hike it was we thought there was a chance we would be getting to this Georgia cache first. Well we reached the search zone and then found the cache easily. Jungle green had found it and opened it because she has never been first to a cache. (Thanks to BassonPilot!) Well she is going to have to wait because one of the local Georgia cachers had been to it the day before us. Oh well it still made the trip extra special.

Also we were staying two nights at the Hike Inn and we saw it was only 1.5 miles to the High Shoals Old Coins Cache, http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?ID=6210. So on our second day we hiked to this cache because although we had hiked in the 5 miles to the inn and wanted to hike up to Springer Mountain we realized we did not have enough energy to hike 8.8 miles round trip. But we had great fun on the 4 miles round trip to the High Shoals cache.

Thanks Georgia for providing us with a great caching and hiking vacation. If you want to combine a little caching and hiking I highly reccomend it.

Could that not be done by making it a 'route', with 'parking spot' as the start, as well as waypoints. Then it would download to the Easy/ExpertGPS, and finally our GPSrs as a route with a Geocache ID rather than a waypoint with a Geocache ID. I am still new and don't know if this is feasible.

I am not aware of the Geocaching site being able to download a route. It just downloads a single waypoint per cache. If a cache could be made to download a Parking coordinate too then it could be a P #### that matches to the #### of the cache of whatever type. And then when I look at my nearest points I know that first I head to the P to park and then hike to the cache from there.

I just want to chime in that some sort of system like this would be great!

I have suggested before and seems appropriate again that a P value for parking would be good too if the cache download could also have parking coordinates for those of us who like to provide them to. The P#### would then match to one of the other values and #### to let you know this is where to park for this cache.

You are the winner! Stayfloopy picked up the pace and was a week quicker than he was for 800 and 900.

Just let me know what cache you want me to leave that WG$ in and if I can find it I will leave it.

Now he'll only be more determined. Therefore, I predict 9/30/02 at the _latest_.

Looks like he has picked up the pace, I may have to get that WG$ ready.

  11. I got a WG$s that says he will hit 1000 on 10/12/2002!

Stayfloopy's rate lately is 100 every six weeks.

    That is amazing!

I have been caching for over 7 months and I am not even at 70 yet.

Congratulations on 900, now on to 1000.

  12. That may be true but still I find it hard to believe.

Even smaller boulders seemed to have the pattern all around them. Now how did that happen? A round rock with same pattern all over it?

Me thinks I need to go back for a second look.

  13. Brian,

Are you having trouble downloading file off website? I just did it and it worked okay.

Or are you having trouble with the download to the GPS?

I use EasyGps and it does make coordinate entry much easier.

  14. Great, that you are now going to be employed again.

I have been watching you rack up all the local caches and wondering how you found the time.

    Now I know.

You can keep caching, you just have to do it on weekends and nights like most of the rest of us.

  15. Thanks Chris.

Got mine yesterday. Reached into mailbox and thought what is this box but saw the Orange above my address and knew what I had.

Jungle green is going to really like the green ones.

The orange ones are more a dark red but close enough.

Thanks for all your work! They do look great!

I like to provide parking coordinates and public transportation info if appropriate. See cache below. I also wish that the cache hide form provide a parking coordinate that could also be downloaded with the GC waypoint if cache hider wanted to provide it. A PK#### for the GC####.
