Okay, I think I'm following you so far. But if Enchanted Shadow is having this problem specifically with a Custom Export - isn't is possible to tell GPSBabel which field to use for the Description within the Style File? I mean, isn't that it's purpose? To map out exactly what you want and how you want it?

Has there been any luck in figuring out what's going on, and how to fix it?

Yup, I'm seeing those problems too. It sounds like both problems might be related to GPSBabel, though - if it's leaving GSAK correctly in the babel.gpx file... Unless, GSAK is formatting the GPX file incorrectly. Hmm.
